Part 3 Digital
Libraries
This may not be the best way to remember all those good sites
But we all want a way to organize all of the great
websites we have
This is the third installment of a series called Got Tech ?
In this session, we will investigate ways of
managing our digital libraries
#2. RSS
First, let’s look take a closer look at RSS
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily
stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in.
You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not
needing to join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites
offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly.
RSS, originally known as Real Simple Syndication, and sometimes
referred to as Rich Site Summary, is a format for delivering regularly
changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs
and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to
whoever wants it.
How do you use RSS?
It is pretty simple!
Online software like Google Reader or Bloglinesgrab RSS feeds from various
sites and display them for you
So, instead of visiting all of your favourite blogs or
news-sites individually, you can see
this each day…
This person has received new feeds from a few of the sites they
follow
More importantly, they will notice that there is nothing new from several
others
So, spend your time reading and exploring
new information instead of checking to see if there
is anything new.

video, please visithttp://wecdsbit.blogspot.com/search?q=rss
There are also several ways of cataloguing all of your
favourite sites and finding them when you need
them
Every site you visit has a few keywords associated with them. In the virtual world, these are called
‘tags’
Social bookmarking sites allow you to keep a list of all of the sites you
like and organizes them using these tags
Click one below and start storing, sharing, and
discovering web bookmarks
Please always remember to credit the original authors
of information that you make into your own
Watch for the next installment of Got Tech ?
and get answers to the question,
“How can I ever use all this great stuff?”
