SPORT This term all students will be participating in gymnastics and swimming classes. We would like to thank the cricket and AFL coaches from last term. We would like all students to continue active play at home and hope you enjoy your new cricket bat and ball. The perfect cricket kit for a game at the beach or in the backyard. HISTORY The driving question for our history lessons is “How has our history influenced our lives?” All students will pose questions, identify and explore information and ideas from source materials about the history of our local community. All students will be visiting Lismore Museum, the Visitors Information Centre and exploring the cultural trail over three afternoons whilst in town during the swimming weeks. Stage 3 students will be accessing source materials on the development of Australia when visiting the Australian museum, The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Botanical gardens. TRANSITION PROGRAMS All our year six students will be attending Richmond River High Campus on the 14/11 & 5/12. There is an organised program and will require private transport. We welcome our pre-school children who are starting in 2018 with special transition days on 27/11, 28/11, 4/12, 5/12, 11/12. If you know of any students starting school in 2018, please invite them to our school for a visit to discuss enrolment and details for our transition program. BUSHFIRE PROCEDURES With the bush fire season upon us, Goolmangar PS has recently taken action to review our Bush Fire Emergency Management and Evacuation Plan. In the event of a fast approaching fire the students, staff and visitors would go into “lockdown” in the classroom, until the danger has past. Our front classroom has been deemed to be a “Shelter of Last Resort” by the Rural Fire Service. We do not encourage you to enter the fire zone to try to collect your children from the school until the “all clear” is given by the emergency services. We would endeavour to send a School Stream app message or contact each family to reassure you that your children are safely in lockdown, and again when the emergency has passed. Please take this opportunity to ensure we have your current phone contact details. As our community is surrounded by bushland, it seems opportune to note that the NSW Rural Fire Service recommends that families develop their own home bush fire safety plan, as well. Resources and a template to help you do this are available on the NSW Rural Fire Service website at rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare. Closed Gates: As part of our WHS procedures, the school gates will now be closed @ 9.30am each morning and re-opened @ 3pm. Please close them behind you if coming in or out between these hours. INTENSIVE SWIMMING SCHEME

All students will be travelling to Lismore Memori-

al Baths every school day from the 14th Novem-

ber - 25th November. Students who can swim

confidently 25m or more will be in a group that

focuses on stroke correction and lifesaving skills.

All other students will be in a group according

to their swimming capabilities. Students will be

assessed during the School Swimming and Water

Safety Program for all water safety skills without

wearing goggles. During these two weeks children

will need to wear their school uniform. Children

are to bring: Swimmers, towel, rash/swim shirt,

bag for wet clothing (not a plastic bag as these

rip), goggles are optional.

Please make sure that all items of clothing are

labelled with your child’s name so that we can

keep track of them all as much as possible. The

school will provide sunscreen.

Return the attached permission note

and payment to the office (or pay

online @ the school website).

CURTAIN CALL

We wish Lucy, Taj and Tessa all the best

with their performance next Tuesday evening

at the Star Court Theatre. The students will

be performing the same drama performance

as they did at the Lismore Performing Arts

Festival, featuring different features of the

Roald Dahl stories.

We would like to thank Ms McEwen for

offering this opportunity.

KIDS IN THE KITCHEN

As a follow up to a student’s suggestion on how we

can improve on the Kids in the Kitchen expo,

students would like to have a Kids in the Kitchen

Club.

Staff and Karen (canteen coordinator) believe this

could work on a Friday and small group rotations will

be responsible for preparing the canteen lunch on

their day. This will be a trial run over four Fridays

this term.

This project will continue teaching our students about

how food is prepared, food safety and hygiene. Most

recipes will be chosen from the Kids in the Kitchen

resource and are aimed at improving students confi-

dence in the kitchen, exploring different tastes, learn-

ing valuable life skills and thinking in a procedural

way, all while having fun!

This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and grand-

parents to be involved in their child’s education. If

you can spare a couple of hours on a Friday to help

teach our students valuable life skills let us know!
