In this tutorial, you will learn how to use Realize™ and Google Classroom™ together, by sharing supported content from your Realize programs with your classes. © 2017 Google Inc, used with permission. Google Classroom Integration

With the new Google Classroom™ integration, you can use Realize content together with your Google Classroom instructional plans to better reach all your students. With one click, you can share Realize content through Google Classroom via the Classroom Share Button.

Sharing Setup

Before you can begin using Realize content to create Google Classroom assignments, you must first:

• Have a district-provided G Suite for Education™ account. • Provide Google Classroom accounts for your students • Ensure your students have a Realize account.

Google Classroom Setup

The first time you connect to Google Classroom, you must “allow” Google to talk to Realize. Teachers sign in to Google Classroom and select a class.

Realize Setup

To use this feature, you must turn on the Google Classroom integration in your Settings. First, Sign in to Realize and access your user profile. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and select the checkbox for Google Classroom™. Then, click Save.

Sharing Content

Content with the Share link can be shared with Google Classroom. If a shareable lesson contains content items that are locked or hidden, the student will not see those items in the Google Classroom assignment.

Create an Assignment, Question, or Announcement

To create an assignment, question, or announcement, choose the content you wish to share to Google Classroom. First, select the Realize program that you want to use to assign content. Click the Share link for the item, and select Google Classroom. The first time you share content with Google Classroom, you will need to “allow” Google to be shared with Realize. This only needs to be done once. If you are not logged in to Google Classroom, you will be prompted to sign in and choose a class.

Lesson Details

For assignments, you can add a title, due date, and instructions for the lesson. Once the assignment is added, it will be listed on the Google Classroom Stream page. Students will access their Pearson Realize content from Google Classroom. Students need to sign in to Realize when accessing the content. Once signed in, they can access all Realize content shared to Google Classroom. Currently, when Pearson Realize content is shared to Google Classroom, student work is not saved for you to review.

Best Practices

Here are a few best practices for using Pearson Realize content in Google Classroom:

• If you want to capture student work or data on activities or assessments, assign those content items directly in Pearson Realize and have students access the assignment from Pearson Realize.

• Share instructional content that you want to display in class or assign to students to read or work through to Google Classroom. If you and your students access most assignments in Google Classroom, this is a convenient option.

• After students complete a Pearson Realize assignment in Google Classroom, they can mark their work as done.

• Create your own formative assessment or reflection activity using Google Docs, Sheets, Slides or Forms and attach that to the Pearson Realize assignment. After students turn in the assignment, you can review and score the activity or quiz you created.

• When students access Realize Reader from either Pearson Realize or Google Classroom, all of their notes, annotations, highlights, and bookmarks are saved.

• If you want to review student work in an assigned Realize Readers Selection, be sure to assign Realize Readers Selections on Pearson Realize. Realize Reader Selections are indicated by the small book icon next to the content title.

Tracking and Data

By connecting content to a Google Classroom, the Google Classroom assignment features will be used to track completion, offer collaboration tools, and handle scores. Once student work is complete, teachers can grade the assignment in Google Classroom. Any assignment, question, or announcement scores are tracked in Google Classroom. Data on these items does not share data back to Realize.
