The Rite of Christian Initiation PRAYER FOR THE RCIA O God, we thank you for implanting the gift of faith in human hearts. We thank you for sending Jesus your son, as the fullness of your love. May his life and mission lead us to share in your divine life. We ask you to bless in a special way all inquirers, catechumens, and candidates, who have generously responded to the invitation of Jesus: "Come follow me.” Help them to persevere in their journey of faith despite any difficulties. Bless all those who minister through the RCIA process so that, under the guidance of your holy spirit, they may lead others to a life of faith in Jesus Christ. Grant that all parishioners will take an active role in bringing new members into the Church. Call us all to a renewal of our faith, and inspire us all to be your light in the world. Amen.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION Families who have finished the follow-up catechesis with their child for First Holy Communion are welcome to call the Faith Formation Office to set up a times for interview, rehearsal and date. Special Feast Days of the Church Corpus Christi—June 14: The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. This day reminds us that we partake of Jesus in the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus—June 19: Within the sacred heart of Jesus, pierced for love of humankind, is contained the full depth of the divine treasures of love and mercy, grace and salvation.

The Legion of Mary

What is the Legion of Mary? The Legion of Mary is an association of Catholics under the powerful leadership of Mary. Immaculate, Mediatrix of Graces, formed to assist the Church's struggle to promote good over evil. Through prayer, especially the Most Holy Rosary, and apostolic works, it promotes personal holiness and the desire to bring people to Christ through His Mother. All of us, as baptized Catholics, are asked to be of service to others, and what better way to imitate Our Lady, whose life was in loving service to her Son and the salvation of souls. For meeting information or if interested in being a regular or auxiliary member, contact Michael Provencher at 910-728-1267 or [email protected].

Wreaths Across America While we have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, our servicemen and women sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year, to preserve our freedom. In many homes across the U.S., there is an empty seat for one who is serving, or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Our mission is to Remember, Honor, and Teach all year long, far beyond the single day in December when we coordinate wreath laying ceremonies. All throughout the year, Wreaths Across America works in a number of ways to show our veterans and their families that we will not forget. We are doing our share at Good Shepherd through the Widow's Watch ministry. You can purchase/donate a wreath at 1 for $15 or 3 for $30. Make check out to Good Shepherd and put Wreaths on the memo line; can mail it in, drop off at the office, or put in the collection basket. REMEMBER our fallen U.S. Veterans. HONOR those who serve. TEACH your children the value of freedom.

AN INVITITATION TO THE CATHOLIC MEN OF

GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH

The Covid-19 virus is keeping us separated from interacting with our Catholic Faith Family. The Knights of Columbus has taken steps to accommodate the Catholic men of our Parish who have an interest in joining our ranks as Catholic Men of Faith. A simple, online ceremony has been developed to bring new members into the Order. Just prior to this pandemic, the Knights of Columbus changed the steps candidates needed to join the Council, realizing that the previous steps and ceremonies were time consuming, not family oriented and antiquated for today’s Catholic life. If you are interested in joining the Knight of Columbus, please call/text Jim Coyle at (609)332-3699 or email [email protected] for more information about the Order, what we do and how we support our Pastor and our Parish. Visit KofC.org for info about our programs. Also, there is a video series called “Into the Breach” which speaks to Catholic Men of today and the importance of being a Husband , Father and Servant of Christ in today’s secular world. Visit KofC.org to view video and membership is not required to watch the episodes. Please know our Knights of Columbus Council members are here to help those in need in this time of difficulty and we keep the families of our Parish in our daily prayers.

OPEN WIDE OUR HEARTS In November 2018 the US bishops published a pastoral letter entitled, “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love,” which addresses the issue of racism in the United States. It is a positive document that gives a short overview of the issue and concrete guidance to dioceses and parishes to help Catholics bring the love of Christ into this situation. The document is only 32 pages long and available at: www.USCCB.org. To view it, click on the “Issues and Actions” tab, and then “Racism.” For anyone who would like to join a Zoom meeting to discuss the document on Monday, June 22, 7-8 pm, please contact Jan Carnahan at: [email protected] or 910-323-0473.

Project Rachel Retreat Rescheduled The Project Rachel Retreat originally scheduled for June 12-14, 2020 has been rescheduled for September 25-27, 2020. For more information or to register for the retreat, contact Project Rachel at [email protected] or call (919) 852-1021.

The Purpose of the Spiritual Adoption Program is threefold: 1. Encourage parishes and schools to pray for babies in danger of abortion. 2. Educate adults and children about the development of the pre-born child. 3. Provide mothers in need with assistance at a 'baby shower' of donated baby gifts, or simply celebrate with a 'birthday party' at the conclusion of the program. The Pro-Life Ministry will hold a baby shower in honor of Good Shepherd's spiritually adopted children. This is done by encouraging people to "spiritually adopt" an unborn baby, and to follow their baby along the path to being born. Our spiritually adopted babies due date is November 18, 2020. Good Shepherd's Adoptive Girl Baby's Name: Teresa Good Shepherd's Adoptive Boy Baby's Name: Thomas Adoption Date: February 26, 2020 - November 18, 2020 Pray this prayer daily for your adopted child: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of [baby’s name] the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” Your baby is now 17 weeks. Baby is now as big as an onion. Baby's sense of hearing is making big strides. His ears are close to being fully formed and he's starting to be able to hear your voice. Cut this prayer out to remind you to pray daily.

Guidance for Masses, Parish Ministries and Celebrations of the Sacraments as recommended by the Diocese of Raleigh Provided parishes can meet appropriate social distancing requirements and/or logistical arrangements, indoor services can be conducted including Mass, the Sacrament of Penance, Adoration, and individual prayer. As stated by Bishop Zarama, all of the faithful continue to be dispensed from their Sunday obligation. While this dispensation is applicable to all, the elderly, those sick, those with pre-existing health conditions or other vulnerable people should especially continue to stay at home. Additional precautions are to be taken when distributing Holy Communion, including frequent use of hand sanitizer by Eucharistic Ministers. No Communion from the chalice and/or shaking hands during the Sign of Peace. Recommendations to Promote Social Distancing and Reduce Transmission: • Maintain at least six (6) feet social distancing from

other individuals, with the exception of family or household members.

• Wear a cloth Face Covering when leaving home and wear it inside all public settings. These coverings function to protect other people more than the wearer.

• Carry hand sanitizer with you when leaving home, and use it frequently.

• Wash hands using soap and water for at least twenty (20) seconds as frequently as possible.

• Regularly clean high-touch surfaces such as steering wheels, wallets, and phones.

• Stay at home if sick. Steps being taken at Good Shepherd Parish to limited the spread of the virus: • Door knobs and handles being sanitized daily. • Doors left open before and after Mass to reduce

touched surfaces. • Bathroom doors and sinks wiped down daily. • Singing only suggested for those wearing a mask. • Use of Hymnals is discouraged.
