Going from Homegrown Delphi/Pascal toEsri®, ArcFM™, SAP & ADMS
Esri GeoConX 2018
• Over 16+ years of experience in Defense Mapping, Private Sector, and Utilities
• Expertise in Esri and ArcFM technologies and experiences with multiple software and database solutions commonly used by electric, gas, and telecom utilities
• As Program Manager, directed and implemented software solutions for electric, gas, fiber, and telecommunications utilities
Presenter Introductions
Frank Roberts, Account Manager - UDC
• Been at Cleco for 20 years, 18 years in GIS
• Lead developer in the original GIS, OMS, and AVL, all home grown
• Current GIS and ADMS admin
• Lead point person for anything GIS or ADMS related to the conversion to SAP and Esri on the Cleco side.

Presenter Introductions
Paul Constance, Integration & Development - CLECO
CLECO Overview
• Operating since 1935 and headquartered in Pineville, Louisiana
• CLECO owns nine generating units with a total nameplate capacity of 3,310 megawatts
• 11,935 miles of distribution lines and 1,317 miles of transmission lines
• Serves approximately 288,000 customers in Louisiana through its retail business and supplies wholesale power in Louisiana and Mississippi
UDC Overview
• Founded in 2005
• Privately Owned
• 324 Employees
• Systems Integrator –Spatial Visual Focus
• Implementation Focus
• Extensive Gas & Electric Systems Experience
Project Background
• Integrate design and estimating systems with SAP’s work management system to produce a comprehensive central design and work management solution
• Replace homegrown GIS system
• Maintain Integration to Schneider Electric ADMS
Project Background
• The initial requirement for UDC was to support the SAP interface by making the necessary changes in ArcGIS Enterprise to meet Cleco’s business needs.
• Initial meetings revealed some challenges
The Challenge
• Cleco had not decided on a Design tool that would need to be integrated to SAP Work Management
• Aggressive schedule
• Multiple projects and project teams• UDC
• IBM
• Vesta
• Schneider Electric
Design Tool Decision
• ADMS deployments need accurate electric networks and business processes in place to maintain them with ‘zero-latency’.
• Cleco already has Schneider Electric’s ADMS implemented
• ArcFM Designer provides a smooth integration to ADMS, meeting the ‘zero-latency’ requirement
Scheduling
• Multiple projects and project teams working at the same time
• All projects ready for testing by Aug 2018
• Be ready for testing, but keep working towards completion. A “Phased” approach…
• Continue testing and adjusting
The Solution
• ArcFM Designer
• Integrations and Tools
• Customizations• AutoUpdaters
• GDBM Action Handlers
• Experienced Team
ArcFM Designer Benefits
• Provides Schneider Electric ADMS with zero latency data
• Estimate job costs through integration to SAP Work Management
• Streamlines design, construction, and workflow process
• Design in GIS and export directly into ADMS
• Single point of entry for all asset information
Autoupdaters• Calculate ELN
• Fuse Bank Size
• Cabinet Association
• CU Defining Attributes
• Phase: Size Label Text
• Operating Voltage
• Phase Designation
• Total KVAR
• Town
• Cap Bank Relationship
• Fuse Bank Relationship
• Recloser Bank Relationship
• Switch Bank Relationship
• Transformer Bank Relationship
• VBK Structure Relationship
Integrations and Tools
• The GIS will need to both send and receive data from SAP during many different points in the daily processes
• Stand Alone Tools- GIS Data Extraction for SAP
- GIS Data Import from SAP
• GDBM: SAP Action Handlers
• ArcMap and ArcFM application is the main tool used by mappers/designers
Experienced Team
• Kris Foster
• Senior Software Engineer/Consultant
• 16yrs in GIS including 3 years at Schneider Electric
Experienced Team
• Jeff Buturff
• DBA, Performance Engineer, Lead Developer
• 25 years in Utility GIS including 6 years with Esri
Next Steps – ArcMap/ArcFM 10.6.1
Take full advantage of all enhancements being added to ArcGIS Enterprise
• Complete Web GIS
• Portal collaboration
• Improved big data analysis
• Improved real-time event processing
• Increased agility and integration capabilities
• Performance
• Support through January 2024
Next Steps – ArcFM Editor XI and Designer
• Improve GIS/EAM and GIS/WMS integration
• Shorten as-built duration and backlogs
• Support ADMS Zero-Data Latency for SCADA controls without humans in the loop
• Reduce the impact of moving to Esri’s Utility Network Model
• Freedom to decide when you want to move to Esri’s Utility Network Model
