The Bible Story

Leviticus 1–27

BIBLE STORY FOR TODDLERSGod gave Moses many rules for God’s people to obey. God’s rules told the people of Israel how to worship God and how to live holy lives. First, God gave rules about offerings, or gifts people give to God. When people wanted to praise God, they gave burnt offerings. When they wanted to say they were sorry for a wrong choice, they gave a sin offering. One day a year, the priest gave a special gift to God to ask Him to forgive the people for their wrong choices. One day, God would send Jesus to forgive people for their wrong choices. Until then, God said, “Be holy because I am holy.”

Babies Activities

LOOK IN THE BIBLEProvide hand-size Bibles for babies to hold and turn the pages. Open your Bible to Leviticus. Show the Bible story picture and say the Gospel Gems in a soothing voice. Read the key passage card. SAY: The Bible is a special book. The Bible is God’s words. God gave His people rules for worshiping Him. GOD IS HOLY. He always does what is good, and His rules are good. [Pray for the babies.]

SING A SONGSing to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” : “ Holy, holy is the Lord, is the Lord, is the Lord! Holy, holy is the Lord. He alone is God.”

SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God always does what is right and good. God sent Jesus because He loves us.

MAKE GIFT ARTProvide construction paper and adhesive gift bows. Invite babies to stick the gift bows to the paper. Write People gave gifts to God on the top of the paper.SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God gave His people rules for worshiping Him. God said to give Him special gifts when they were sorry for their wrong choices.

SORT SHAPESAssist the babies as they play with a shape sorter, ring stacker, or other favorite toy.SAY: Great job! You followed the rules to our game! GOD IS HOLY.

Check diapers, serve bottles if needed, and release babies to parents according to your church’s security guidelines. Give parents today’s big picture card. Repeat the Gospel Gems and Bible-learning activities for babies who stay a second hour.

Toddler Activities

CIRCLE TIME (5 MINUTES) Provide small Bibles for toddlers to handle. Say the Bible is God’s words. Read the key passage card and guide toddlers to say it. Open your Bible to the Book of Leviticus. Show the Bible story picture as you tell the Bible story. Say the Main Point. Pray for the toddlers.

PAINT WITH SHAVING FOAMPost an allergy alert before class. Provide heavyweight paper and painting smocks. In a small bowl, mix equal parts non-menthol shaving foam and white glue. Invite toddlers to “paint” using craft sticks. Keep wipes handy for cleanup.SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God gave His people rules to worship Him. Your paintings are clean and beautiful, just like gifts brought to God.

OPEN SPECIAL GIFTSBefore class, gather plastic sheep and cows. Place them in gifts bags. Invite toddlers to take turns opening their “gifts.”SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God told His people to give Him sheep, cows, and other animals. Later, God sent Jesus because He loves us.

SORT COTTON BALLSProvide 10 cotton balls for toddlers to count and sort. Make a few purple or green marks on four of the cotton balls. Invite toddlers to inspect the cotton balls. Set the clean ones aside. SAY: God gave rules to give Him the best gifts. GOD IS HOLY.

EXPLORE ANIMAL SOUNDSHold up toy animals and invite toddlers to make the sounds of those animals.SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God gave His people rules to give gifts when they made wrong choices. Later, God sent Jesus because He loves us.

TRANSITION ACTIVITY: FEEL AND SEEPlace plastic sheep, cows, and birds in a bag and invite toddlers to feel inside the bag to guess what is inside. Take out each item to see if the toddler guessed correctly.SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God wanted His people to be holy like Him. God gave them rules so they could say they were sorry for their wrong choices. God sent Jesus because He loves us.

MAKE PLAY DOUGH ANIMALSProvide white play dough with sheep, cow, and bird-shaped cookie cutters. Invite toddlers to make animals with the play dough and make the sounds those animals make.SAY: GOD IS HOLY. God wanted His people to be holy like Him. God gave rules so they could say they were sorry for wrong choices.

CLEAN THE ROOMProvide washcloths and child-size brooms for toddlers to help you clean up the room.SAY: GOD IS HOLY. He always does what is right and good. God wanted His people to be clean and holy like Him. God sent Jesus because He loves us.
