How true that is! Mothers, in so many ways, are an amalgamaon of many of the characteriscs of God. She loves us when no one else does. She loves us in spite of us. She loves us even when we are unlovable and unworthy of her love. She thinks that we are beauful even when we are not. She picks us up when we fall. She cheers for us when no one else is cheering for us. She cheers us on when we feel like giving up. She cheers us up when we are down. She forgives us when we make mistakes. She comforts us when we are hurng. And she disciplines us when we are disobedient. Those are some of the aributes of a mother’s love, and they are characteriscs that God possesses in His person. One of my favorite pieces wrien about mothers is a piece wrien by Erma Bombeck entled, “When God Created Mothers.” It reads as follows: When the Good Lord was creang mothers, He was into His sixth day of “overme” when the angel appeared and said, “You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.” And God said, “Have you read the specs on this order? She has to be completely washable, but not plasc. Have 180 moveable parts...all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leſtovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pairs of hands.” The angel shook her head slowly and said. “Six pairs of hands.... no way.” “It's not the hands that are causing me problems,” God remarked, “it's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.” “That's on the standard model?” asked the angel. God nodded. One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, 'What are you kids doing in there?' when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't but what she has to know, and of course, the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uering a word. “God,” said the angel touching His sleeve gently, “Get some rest tomorrow....” “I can't,” said God, “I'm so close to creang something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick...can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger...and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower.” The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. “It's too soſt,” she sighed. “But tough!” said God excitedly. “You can imagine what this mother can do or endure.” “Can it think?” Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise,” said the Creator. Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. “There's a leak,” she pronounced. “I told You that You were trying to put too much into this model.” “It's not a leak,” said the Lord, “It's a tear.” “What's it for?” “It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride.” “You are a genius,” said the angel. Somberly, God said, “I didn't put it there.” Mothers, we thank God for you! You remind us of God’s love for us, and you represent a small piece of heaven on earth. Happy Mother’s Day to you! Thank God for Mothers

It has often been said that when God gave us mothers, He gave us a little piece of Himself. How true that is! Mothers, in so many ways, are an amalgamation of many of the characteristics of God.

She loves us when no one else does.

She loves us in spite of us.

She loves us even when we are unlovable and unworthy of her love.

She thinks that we are beautiful even when we are not.

She picks us up when we fall.

She cheers for us when no one else is cheering for us.

She cheers us on when we feel like giving up.

She cheers us up when we are down.

She forgives us when we make mistakes.

She comforts us when we are hurting.

And she disciplines us when we are disobedient.

Those are some of the attributes of a mother’s love, and they are characteristics that God possesses in His person. One of my favorite pieces written about mothers is a piece written by Erma Bombeck entitled, “When God Created Mothers.” It reads as follows:

When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of “overtime” when the angel appeared and said, “You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.” And God said, “Have you read the specs on this order? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts...all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't but what she has to know, and of course, the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word. “God,” said the angel touching His sleeve gently, “Get some rest tomorrow....” “I can't,” said God, “I'm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick...can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger...and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower.” The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. “It's too soft,” she sighed. Somberly, God said, “I didn't put it there.”

Page 2: FAMILY UPDATES Thank God for Mothers MINISTRY EVENTS … · 2019. 12. 8. · Thank God for Mothers It has often been said that when God gave us mothers, He gave us a little piece

thought for the week

Mom, I look at you and see a walking miracle.

Your unfailing love without limit, your ability to soothe my every hurt, the way you are on duty, unselfishly,

every hour, every day, makes me so grateful

that I am yours, and you are mine. With open arms and open heart,

with enduring patience and inner strength, you gave so much for me,

sometimes at your expense. You are my teacher,

my comforter, my encourager, appreciating all, forgiving all.

Sometimes I took you for granted, Mom, but I don’t now, and I never will again.

I know that everything I am today relates to you and your loving care.

I gaze in wonder as I watch you being you—

my miracle, my mother.
