Goal Setting Process
Examples (Steps 1, 2, 3)
Area of Improvemen
t
Intended Outcome
No regular communication with
alumnae and barely any attend the events we host each year.
Priority: Moderate
Limited understand or support for Pine Mountain Settlement School
and minimal sisters actually participate in hands-on service.
Priority: Moderate-High
Officers are constantly overspending and we barely had
enough money to attend Convention.
Priority: High
Continual, formal communication with younger & older alumnae. Higher attendance at alumnae
events.
Improved understanding of PMSS and increased involvement with service
opportunities rather than just philanthropic fundraising.
Chapter will lower overall spending and increase savings. Chapter will be
financially healthy, and chapter members will
better understand financialoperations.
ACTIVITY
Create S.M.A.R.T. Goals
Your goals are a plan of action
for the semester, specifically
what you are going to do.
Director of Philanthropy Goals: raise more money do more service in the
community find more service
opportunities
Poorly-Written Goals
….Vague
Well-Written Goals
Director of Philanthropy – Goals:
Raise $500 for Pine Mountain Settlement School with a Dodgeball Tournament in April, with 75% of the chapter in attendance
Participate in 2 Habitat for Humanity builds before May 15th with 80% of the chapter in attendance
Contact Center for Service and Leadership each month for list of service opportunities (list will be posted on the GINSystem on the 1st of each month)
ACTIVITY
Who are the specific individuals that are going to play a role in achieving
this goal?
Identifying Key Stakeholders
Why is this important? You can’t reach a goal as
a group if not everyone actually knows what they are.
You have to be able to evaluate group buy-in: Agreement? Personal Connection? Understanding?
Sharing Identified Goals
1st – Each officer shares her goals with her officer team/committee.
2nd – Each VP shares the goals of each officer on her team (and any committee she oversees) with the Executive Committee
3rd – Executive Committee shares the goals of all officers with the chapter.
Sharing Identified Goals
When is the best time to share identified goals and discuss them?
What is the best way to allow members to provide feedback and
input?
Sharing Identified Goals
Weekly?… Bi-Weekly?…Monthly?…
…Chapter Business Meetings?…Team Meetings?
…On the GIN System?
Follow-Up: What’s Our Progress?
When?
How/Where?
Less likely to over-program Increased organization in chapter
operations Lowered stress levels, confusion,
chaos Greater understanding of
accomplishment
