Assessment: Students will be assessed in a variety of ways through the completion ofprojects, essays, objective and subjective tests including document based questions, andin class performance.

Major assignments for the year may include:

1. Several major seminars with accompanying short essay assignments of 1-2 pages.2. Reading will be a required component of this course and the students will be

graded on their knowledge and participation.3. Group projects with visual and presentation components4. Research paper utilizing secondary and primary sources with appropriate citations5. A collection of historical exercises (ex. Document based activities)6. Each student will begin the Internal Assessment project that will be due in the

first semester of the student's senior year. The topics for these projects will bedetermined by each individual instructor, and will follow the InternationalBaccalaureate guidelines.

During their junior year the students will begin preparing for the following IBassessments to be completed during their senior year:

Paper 1: Document Based Questions -20Vo (1 hour) The three subjects on which thequestions are set are prescribed in advance. Each subject will feature five historicaldocuments followed by four questions. Students must choose only one subject andanswer all the questions pertaining to that subject. Previous knowledge of the subject isnecessary as well as historiographical skills.

Paper 2z 20h Century World History Topics -25Vo {l112 Hours) This paper requiresstudents to answer two essay questions. The questions are by topics, with five questionsfor each of the six topics. The students must answer two questions each selected fromdifferent topics.

Paper 3: History of the Americas -35Vo (2112 Hours) This paper requires students toanswer three essay questions. There will be twenty-five questions from which to choose.The syllabus for each regional option is divided into twenty-two sections, and onequestion will be set on each of these twenty-two sections. The remaining three questionsmay be used to cover material that occurs in more than one section, or they may be usedas an additional question for one ofthe sections already covered.

Internal Assessment: - 20Vo The internal assessment requires an intensive independentstudy of a particular historical topic. A student begins with a concise historical questionand attempts to answer it by thoroughly investigating numerous sources. It enablescandidates to demonstrate the application of their skills and knowledge in history and topursue their own personal historical interests without the time constraints associated withwritten examinations. Students will begin this work during their junior year and it will becompleted during the first semester of their senior year.

Resources: The resources that will be utilized in this course include scholarly journalarticles, books, and various pieces of software.

B. RespectIdeals of respect for self, respect for others, and respect for the world around us as youconduct yourself are essential to success.
