It is the excessive increase in the normal temperatures at the atmosphere and at the surface of the earth, that has been happening in the last 150 years.

What is the Global Warning?

- +/- 0,5ºC / 100 years.

Page 3: GlobalWarningpw

- The expected increase in the coming 100 years is 5 to 6ºC, much larger than normal in last years and this shows how human activities causing these increases.

Increased variation in temperature in the last years

Page 5: GlobalWarningpw

- The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon that keeps the temperature of the surface of the earth at an average of 15ºC, not at 20ºC;

- Some of the gases that compose the atmosphere have the funcion to retain the heat generated underneath it, keeping the earth warm, and also preventing the sun's rays, reflecting them to the space, in such a way that the planet keeps its normal temperature.

Global Warming & Greenhouse Effect

Page 6: GlobalWarningpw

- Those gases are known as the greenhouse effect gases, and increasing its concentration in the atmosphere increases the heat-trapping, excessively raising the temperature of the planet.

- All the evidence suggests that the human activity is responsible for this increase.

Page 7: GlobalWarningpw

- Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - 76%

- Methane (CH4) - 13%

- CFCs - 5%

- Hydrogen Oxide (N20) – 6%

Industrialized countries are responsible for about 71% of global emissions of CO2.The developing countries with 80% of the world's population, produce approximately 18% of the total emission.

The main ones are:

Page 8: GlobalWarningpw

Great responsible for CO2 emission:

- Big industries;- Motorized Vehicles;- Production of energy;- Burning of forests;- The entire combustion that releases molecules of carbon to the atmosphere.

C + 02 Burning of fossil fuels atmospheric oxygen

Greenhouse X Earth

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC):

- The Amazon could turn into savanna;

- Floods

- Extinction of species;

- Prolonged droughts;

- Lack of water and energy;

- Forest fires;

- Epidemics.

Consequences:

Solutions:

- Reduction of CO2 emissions;- Cars moved with cleaned fuels;- Energy saving;- Greater plantation of trees for cycling the CO2.

ONU warned: We have 15 years to act.

Kyoto Protocol:

International treaty with more serious commitments for the reduction of emission of gases that cause the greenhouse effect.

Discussed in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997, was opened for signatures in 1998.

Page 19: GlobalWarningpw

Officially started in operation on 16 February 2005, after Russia having examined the treaty in November 2004.

It has 166 signatures.

Page 20: GlobalWarningpw

Main propositions:

- Reduction of gases in 5.12% compared to 1990 levels;

- Promote the use of renewable energy;

- Reformulate the sectors of energy and transport;

- Greater forest protection.

The EUA:

It has approximately 4% of the world population and is responsible for about 25% of the global emission of CO2;

Did not signed the treaty of Kyoto, accusing him of interfering negatively on the economy of the country.

Page 23: GlobalWarningpw

Investments have been made, particularly in renewable energy, with the aim of reducing the emission by 2%.

Recently announced a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions, but without setting the percentages of that reduction.

Page 24: GlobalWarningpw

- More research on biofuels;

- Improvement of the gases filters of the companies;

- Germany compromised itself to reduce by 20% the gas emissions until 2012;

- Construction and use of ecological conscience.
