What is Globalization ???• “ Globalization is a process of

interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology”

• In the twenty first century, one cannot think of any branch of knowledge without making a reference to Globalization, which has influenced language, literature, social sciences, service sectors and whatnot.

• G.Swaminathan in his review of this novel comments:

• “if you want to really have a peep into the new generation, their jobs, life, attitude, values and their dreams please do not miss One Night @ the Call Centre.”

Globalization in ON@CC

• Growing awareness of technology and the use of it have definitely exposed India to a new environment.

• This change has come about due to strong wish of youths to participate in the technological revolution that is going on all around the world.

• With growing urbanization and globalization a number of opportunities have opened up all around.

• In ON@CC the number of men and women working in call center is equal. Women work even in night shifts.

• Bhagat very comfortably depicts women empowerment as one of the positive effects of globalization,

• at the same time, consumerism, eroding values, and rising fears and anxieties of urban Indians as some of the negative offshoots of it can not escape his piercing observations.

• The works cited above can be considered as the subjective fictional stories of the changing urban India.

• In this novel writer wants to give message to the Indians that who working in call center.

• they just get good salary but it not give it a opportunity to do something else or for their skills and creativity Americanized form of English in the Call Centers.

Negative effect of the Globalization

• Chetan Bhagat thinks that “On a different level, I began to think about the number individuals who sacrifice their creativity and skills and join call center merely because of the fact pay packet on offer.”

• In this novel we find rising anxieties, fear and stress in these six characters in call center are constantly under pressure.

• They themselves are to be blamed for it• But one can not deny that globalization is also responsible

for it. • Due to slack in software industry the call center wanted to

cut down the number of employees in its main bay and that brings all the people under pressure.

• Actually this book talks about the anxieties, fears, and stress of call center employees.
