GLOBALIZATION IS AFFECTING ALMOST EVERY AREA OF THE LAW.

AN INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE DEGREE FROM THE IU MAURER

SCHOOL OF LAW IS YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS IN THIS NEW AND

RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE REASONS WHY:

International Reputation:

The Law School was ranked 25th overall in the March 2016 US News and World Report

rankings, and our international law program was ranked 18th. Our LLM program is more than

100 years old — one of the oldest in the US. Our tradition and experience combine with the

expertise and global prestige of our faculty members to bring you a first-rate educational

experience — for thousands of dollars less than at other universities.

Degree Options:

In addition to the traditional LLM, we offer an LLM with a thesis for students planning to pursue

doctoral studies. We also offer LLM specializations in business and commercial law; financial

regulation and capital markets; information privacy and cybersecurity law; intellectual property

law; and international and comparative law and globalization. In addition, we award a one-

semester certificate, a master of comparative law (MCL), a doctor of juridical science (SJD), and

a PhD in law and democracy, the only degree of its kind in the world.

Many international students are also interested in our JD degree. Qualified students can apply

to the JD program with advanced standing and earn their degree in as few as two years.

The Bloomington Community:

While earning your degree, you’ll enjoy the safe, quiet, yet cosmopolitan atmosphere of

Bloomington, Forbes’s #1 city for work-life balance, famous for its international community,

globally focused culture and cuisine, and a cost of living far below that of other US cities.

The Indiana University Network:

As an Indiana Law graduate, you’ll have access not only to the Law School’s alumni in more

than 55 countries, but also to the more than 600,000 IU alumni around the globe. The IU

community is truly global, and it’s yours to share as a Law School alumnus.

Support:

The Law School has a six-person staff dedicated to international graduate students and

programs. Students also enjoy excellent support from the university’s Office of International

Services. These offices are at your service for assistance with visas, housing, and other ways to

make your stay in Bloomington more comfortable.

a top-ranked globaldegree, in the heart of the united statesAt Indiana Law, you get the best of both worlds — an international educational experience, at a reasonable cost, in a

small yet cosmopolitan city free from the hassles, expenses, and dangers of a large urban area.

Making a Global Impact:

Three of the Law School’s five research centers are dedicated to global issues: the Center for Constitutional

Democracy; the Center for Law, Society, and Culture; and the Center on the Global Legal Profession. More than

20 of our faculty members focus their research and teaching on international and comparative law, which provides

opportunities for research assistant positions.

Bringing the World to Bloomington:

Each year, a wide range of lectures, distinguished speakers, symposia, workshops and conferences are dedicated

to international issues, including the China Law Forum (with China University of Political Science and Law), the

Bradley-Wolter Colloquium (with Warsaw University and Jagiellonian University), the Smith Endowed Lecture, and

the Snyder Endowed Lecture (with Cambridge University).

Visiting Foreign Scholars:

We welcome visitors from around the world every year. Long-standing visitors come from Trinity College, Dublin;

Warsaw University; University of Debrecen (Hungary); Ewha University and Yonsei University (Korea); National Chiao

Tung University and National Chengchi University (Taiwan); China University of Political Science and Law; East China

University of Political Science and Law; Jindal Global University (India); Australian National University; the Max Planck

Institute (Germany); the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) and Worcester College, Oxford.

Opportunities to Engage:

You’ll have the opportunity to participate in a variety of international student organizations at the Law School,

including the Pro Bono Immigration Project, the International Law Society, and the Indiana Journal of Global Legal

Studies. Across campus, you can take advantage of IU’s 59 institutes, centers, and other units with an international

focus, and meet some of the more than 1,000 faculty on the Bloomington campus with international ties.

A Global Community:

About 75 foreign lawyers from 20 countries come to Bloomington each year to earn graduate degrees. You’ll attend

classes with them, and with the school’s 550 JD students. Sitting side-by-side with peers from throughout the US

and the world will broaden your perspectives on the practice of law and the globalization of your profession.

BLOOMINGTON: A COLLEGE TOWN. . . WITH URBAN SOPHISTICATION

You already know that law school can be difficult and often time-consuming. So why spend your graduate school

year in a crowded urban area, juggling metro passes, dodging traffic, and paying high rent? In Bloomington, you’ll

find a more relaxed pace — a college town focused on students, but with the amenities, sophistication, and fun of

a large city. Everything you need is within reach in Bloomington, so you can bike to campus and shopping or take

advantage of free bus service, and focus on what’s really important!

Consider what others say about Bloomington:– #1 city for work-life balance Forbes– #3 foodie town livability.com– #5 best city for educated millennials Business Insider– #6 best college town to live in forever College Ranker– #10 best city for college graduates Huffington Post– Top 25 bike-to-work city treehugger.com

IU has the Jacobs School of Music — one of the nation’s top music schools — and outstanding programs in fine

arts, theatre, opera, and drama. The spectacular art deco Auditorium brings the best of Broadway to campus every

season. The world-famous Little 500 bike race takes place every spring. If you like outdoor activities, the natural

landscape of southern Indiana, the Hoosier National Forest, and the state’s largest inland lake are yours to enjoy.

And if you long for a big city adventure, Indianapolis, the state capital and home to more than 2 million, is just 45

minutes away, with convenient bus service.
