large-scale projects, some of which compare with the Blue Stream gas pipeline,which was officially inaugurated in November 2005. Among other developments,Russia will increase gas supplies to Turkey and will allow Russian companies toengage in gas distribution in Turkish territory. BBC NEWS 14TH JULY,2008 : QUOTE : .... A top Turkish prosecutor hasbrought charges against 86 people allegedly involved in a coup plot.

Aykut Cengiz Engin said those charged included leading figures from the army,business and the secular press.

The charges follow speculation about a shadowy group of hardline nationalistsdetermined to act in what they see as defence of Turkey's secular values.

Tensions have been rising in Turkey amid efforts to close the ruling party overalleged anti-secular activities.

The Constitutional Court is considering a case against the AK Party, in which it isaccused of aiming to introduce Sharia law in Turkey, in contravention of thestrictly secular constitution.

The Turkish prime minister and president - both AKP members - are named in thatcase and could be barred from office. They and the party reject the charges, whichthey say are part of a campaign against the party....* UNQUOTE.

Malatya was the scene of the 2007 torture and killing of three people,

tons of oil per year from the Turkish port of Samsun on the BlackSea to a Mediterranean terminal in Ceyhan to ease tanker traffic inthe Bosphorus and the Dardanelles straits.

Russia handed a new draft deal to the Turkish government inDecember, but it has yet to be approved. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin said at the time that

Russia and Turkey hoped to agree on investment in the Samsun-Ceyhan project before mid-March.
