Migration

Local nurses are migrating year after year in numbers forgreener pastures to other countries in order to expand theirroles and to have greater independence, autonomy andrespect as members of health care team.

Poor working condition and poor salary in comparison withoverseas counterparts is also a deciding factor for our localnurses to migrate .

Specialized nursing such as midwifery is highly recognized bysome of the overseas countries and are highly remunerated(highly paid).

Greater opportunities in specialization of skills and pursuinghigher education is open to everyone interested.

POLITICS

Political activism and commitment are part of

professionalism ,and politics are important

aspect of health care delivery.

Therefore Nurses should view politics as a

reality that includes the art of influence

compromise and social interaction (Crisp

&Taylor,2005).

Page 16: Global and Local Trends in Nursing

Continued

Nurses have been involved in a different sort

of politics in schools of nursing and also in

health care settings when seeking additional

recourses ,more self direction (autonomy) and

the accountability of authority.The skills

gained in such experiences can be transferred

to the politics of health care policy making .

Nurses involvement in health care policy &

practice

As long as nurses maintain involvement in healthcare policy and practice , misinformed outsiders willbe less successful in imposing their will on nursingand nursing practice.

Other health care providers have made attempts toimpose institutional credentialling, mandatorycontinuing education, curtailment of advancednursing practice and other constraints on the nursingprofession. Nursing should have its own voice indecisions made in these and numerous other areasaffecting the practice and quality of nursing care.
