WELCOME to GLENFARG FOLK FEAST

Members and visitors at Glenfarg Village Folk Club areused to a high standard of music and song throughout the year.When we start putting together a list of those we'd like toinvite to the Folk Feast we therefore tend to look at those whohave impressed us most in the preceding year. Some peopleimpress us every year but we resist the temptation to have themat every Feast - an outstanding example would be lain Mackintosh.

This year's guest list includes several establishedfavourites in Amos and Rocks, Brian Miller and Charlie Soane,Tich Frier and "An Teallach." It also includes two new trios in"Scotland Yard" and "Tapselteerie" many of whose personnel areweel kent faces. Ian Walker has a growing reputation as singerand songwriter and has been welcomed warmly to Glenfarg severaltimes recently. We also have a visit from the Penicuik Punch andJudy who will be playing both the traditional version for thechildrens concert and a new adult version which receives itsWorld Premiere during the Saturday evening Concert.

Last year we had the first World Puff-a-box Championshipsponsored by Bryant and May. The reigning World Champion, BrianMiller, will be defending his title but we've had to move it tobigger premises in case he has been practising too hard. We alsohave, this year, the inaugural competition for the "DreichQuaich" dedicated to the singing of un-joyous songl!l.

AMOS and ROCKS

Since they joined up Adam Amos and Noel Rocks have grown rapidlyin popularity for their musicality and their gently understatedsinging. To adapt the words of "The Ferrybank Piper" ..sometimes they'd playa haunting tune, sometimes they'd sing asong but always a crowd would gather round and follow themalong." They've spent most of March in England so they will geta warm and enthusiastic welcome back to Scotland and Glenfarg.

TICH FRIER

Over the last twenty years Tich has sung skiffle with theVindscreen Vipers and close harmony with Bitter Withy. Bebriefly found himself in "Harness" and has entertained in pubsand clubs with quick-fire humour and more aggression than a weeman should safely exhibit. He remains a powerful singer oftraditional folksongs and a consummate judge of a good song ofany type. His contribution to events from off-stage is notorioustherefore it might be safer to have him on compere duty where hiswit can be enjoyed by all.

SCOTLAND YARD

Only formed a few months ago this trio showed in a recent visithow quickly talents can meld together. We knew Ian Bruce couldhold a tune well but doing this near the magnificent contralto ofMarilyn Middleton Pollock is quite an achievement. The thirdmember, Sandy Stanage plays gentle intricate guitar whilstwatching his partners' sparring. From the lyrical to the raucousthis trio will grab your attention and hold it.

PENICUIK PUNCH and JUDY

This young drama group perform a life-size Punch and Judy show aswell as street theatre. Their performance will undoubtedlyenthrall the bairns on Sunday afternoon but we ahe lI have to waitand see the audience reaction to the World Premiere of their"Adult XXX" version during the Saturday evening concert. Specialappearance by the World Puff-a-Box Champion as a policeman! !

BRIAN MILLER and CHARLIE SOANE

This highly-respected pair of musicians combine power, pace andcontrol better than most playing in Scotland today. Charlie'smercurial left elbow contrast with his dead pan face while heplays his fiddle. Brian's boisterous personality doesn't get inthe way of epic ballad-singing as well as the playing which mustmake him Scotland's most frequent recording session guitarist.
