CLUB INFO Glenfarg Village Folk Club has been going strong since 1978 and meets every Monday evening at 8.00 p.m. in The Glenfarg hotel. Our club nights offer a wide selection of guest artistes whose styles range from traditional Scottish, contemporary song, blues, self-penned material, ballads, Americana, etc. We have enjoyed artistes from around the world – and of course from many parts of Scotland. Glenfarg has a reputation as ‘a singing club’: the audience loves nothing better than joining in enthusiastically with choruses, while a number of members are accomplished singers and musicians in their own right. Our programme of club nights includes singarounds and sessions about once a month to provide an opportunity for members and visitors to participate as well as just listen. The club offers its members much more than weekly club nights and we put on a number of social events through the year. We were voted ‘Music Club of the Year’ in the 2005 Scots Trad Awards and were nominated for the same award in 2010. Our website keeps members and the general public informed of our activities and future plans and can be found at: www.glenfargfolkclub.com If you would like to be added to our mailing list please get in touch with our Treasurer Lesley Toner on: [email protected] or phone 01334-653592.

Chairman’s Welcome to the 2015 Glenfarg Folk Feast

As 2014 comes to an end, we can reflect on what has been a momentous year for Scotland. We saw the most amazing cultural, sporting and political events, the likes of which many of us will never see repeated in our lifetimes. So as we enter 2015 what can we hope to look forward to that will excite and engage us? Look no further than the 37th Glenfarg Folk Feast! The club committee has excelled itself and we have a fantastic line-up scheduled to whet your appetite. The one and only ‘Occasionals’ kick off the weekend festivities at the Grand Ceilidh on Friday night. Thereafter, the Saturday and Sunday concerts are littered with star acts including Vin Garbutt, Barluath, Steve Tilston, Mairearad and Anna, Bob Wood, The Sangsters and the return of our own Farg Folk. Now is that not a line-up to get your vocal chords itching to sing along? ‘In the Bag’ are back to entertain the children on Sunday and along with workshops, singarounds, sessions, our Original Song Competition with the theme ‘Food for Thought’, and the 30th World Puff-a-Box Championships, it all adds up to a wonderful weekend in Glenfarg. We have to thank our sponsors and advertisers for their support in helping us to deliver such a great programme, and of course the Feast would not be complete without you, our wonderful audience. So if you thought our 37th would not match up to 2014, think again and get your diary out for Fri 10th to Sun 12th April 2015. See you all in Glenfarg DavidAird,Chairman

THE OCCASIONALS

We are delighted to welcome for the first time to Glenfarg, one of Scotland’s best known ceilidh bands to open our 37th Folk Feast. The Occasionals comprise Freeland Barbour, Kevin Macleod and Mairi Campbell. A Glenfarg ceilidh consists of plenty of dancing but with the addition of songs from Feast guests and visiting artistes; come and enjoy our grand opening event and help get our weekend off the ground with a bang!

Weekend WorkshopsMaIrI CaMpBeLL - Having appeared with The Occasionals at the Ceilidh on Friday, Mairi is welcomed on her own to host a workshop on harmony singing. As a lady with a huge reputation as a singer and arranger and who is renowned for her teaching of harmony singing, we are indeed fortunate to share some of those skills today.

BOB WOOD - Opening our Sunday Night Concert, Bob Wood has a wonderful voice and a very accomplished guitar style, and we are delighted to have him deliver our Sunday Workshop. Bob will be demonstrating various guitar tunings, styles and accompaniment.

Both workshops will be held downstairs at TheGlenfarg.

BOB WOODDescribed by Ian McCalman as one of the best secrets in the folk circuit, Bob is welcomed to our Folk Feast for the first time, having performed to high acclaim at the Club on three occasions over the past few years. Having a truly wonderful voice and with an accomplished guitar style, Bob is a genuine folk entertainer with an engaging style and an easy-going sense of humour. A wonderful way to open our Final Fling Concert. Bob is also providing our Sunday guitar workshop, when he will demonstrate various guitar tunings, styles and accompaniment.

ITS IN THE BAG E d i n b u r g h - b a s e d sisters Katy and Lorna provide children’s entertainment parties based on their aim of providing exciting, stimulating and imaginative fun for their participants, and certainly thrilled the children (and grown ups!) who saw them at our Feast last year. They have recently been voted as Netmums Favourite Party Entertainers for Scotland and we’re delighted to have them back again to Glenfarg. You are invited to bring your children along to experience the fun and games that “It’s in the Bag” will produce this year.

BARLUATH We first heard Barluath at a Club night last year and immediately knew that we had to book them for the Feast. They offer a freshness and pure quality of performance and all at a very young age. A five, sometimes six, piece mix of multi-instrumentalists who offer a true diverse and innovative set with very strong vocals, huge talent and charisma, they first met during their time as students at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow. Having formed as a band in 2010, they go from strength to strength and will bring our Saturday concert to an exciting and high-energy conclusion.

STEVE TILSTON Steve is certainly one of the most celebrated guitarists and song-smiths in the British folk scene, and it is therefore a true delight to have him perform again at our Feast. Having written such classic and immediately recognisable songs as “The Slip Jigs and Reels” and “Here’s to Tom Paine”, we eagerly await his performance. Recognised as one of the UK’s guitar maestri, he has wide appeal throughout the folk fraternity and will stun those who have not yet seen him perform. A fabulous addition to our Saturday line-up.

VIN GARBUTT

One of the UK’s great folk entertainers returns to the Feast to once again wow our audience. Vin Garbutt has been making people laugh for many years and his stage performances never fail to bring “guffaws” as well as huge appreciation of his wonderful voice and song-writing talents. He is a true “one off” and we are delighted to bring him back to Glenfarg - make sure to bring your chuckle muscles and hankies for this concert! Welcome back Vin.

THE SANGSTERS. Fife’s very own i n t e r n a t i o n a l l y r e c o g n i s e d harmony group return once again to Glenfarg to entertain us in their own inimitable fashion.Anne Murray,Fiona Forbes and John Blackwood provide stunning singing, brilliant close harmonies with sympathetic guitar accompaniment and interpretation of Scots song. Traditional and Burns songs sit alongside contemporary material, all wrapped up in warm, couthy humour! They have recently been involved as part of the highly acclaimed Far, Far from Ypres show. We welcome back The Sangsters!

THE FARG FOLK We welcome back our very own group of Glenfarg Folk Club resident singers after a year’s absence. Their “mission” is to get the audience suitably enthused at the beginning of the concert by means of a selection of chorus songs. Tonight’s line-up in alphabetical order comprises : Mike Dow, Stan Ginter, Hamish Grant, Roy Henderson, Doris Rougvie and Lesley and Hugh Toner. So, settle in and sing up!

MAIREARAD AND ANNA

Two of Scotland’s most revered multi-i n s t r u m e n t a l i s t s , Mairearad Green and Anna Massie combine to form one of the very best folk duos in Britain today. They offer accordion, bagpipes, guitar, banjo, mandolin

and fiddle and produce, as stated in The Scotsman newspaper, “music much more than the sum of just two parts”.They give a breathtaking example of Scottish music at its very best. Although they have both performed at the Feast in the past in different guises, we welcome them for the first time tonight as a duo. Enjoy!
