Genius LM-AThe innovation makes the differenceGenius LM-A is the range for laminated glass cutting that, dueto the innovation of the solutions used and patented by Intermac, guarantees maximum integration between operator, machine and workenvironment, allowing an extreme optimization of space (-20 % ofspace compared to other solutions on the market) .Moreover, thanks to the automation of the entire cutting process,Genius LM-A is able to produce a nite volume in only 60 ,time threshold that INTERMAC is already in the process ofovercoming by pointing to the new target of 40.

businessnewsFENZIinauguration of sales hubin South Korea

Fenzi Korea , headquartered in Seoul, has start-ed marketing the products distributed by the

Fenzi Group and the Glass Alliance network, such asglass and mirror paints, I.G. sealants, spacers (in stain-less steel, aluminium and special plastics) and providingongoing customer service for all product lines.

After 30 years of operation on the Asian and Koreanmarketplace, Fenzi started penetrating this area withDuralux mirror paints, namely the Groups longestestablished product line, and later with its completeproduct portfolio. On the heels of its growing successand expanding sales network, the Group decided to setup a local sales subsidiary.

Highly positive sales results have been achievedwith all product lines, most notably I.G. sealants, suchas Thiover the polysulphide, two-component sealantthat meets the strictest eco-compatibility standards and

Butylver , the poly-isobutylene sealant for insulatingglass primary seal.

South Korea is focusing increasing attention onproduct technical performance, also with a view tocomplying with the strict standards prescribed byenergy efficiency directives enforced in 2011.

Therefore, the new criteria for thermal transmit-tance control of IG units will inevitably lead to the useof high-quality materials and warm edge technologiesthat can guarantee enhanced thermal insulation of buildings.

In the next few years, the increasing focus on ener-gy saving will translate into stronger demand for pro-ducts such as Chromatech Ultra the next generationspacer in stainless steel and special plastics deliveringextraordinarily low thermal transmittance values Chromatech Plus the stainless steel spacer with aunique and patented design that guarantees improvedstability, or Butylver TPS the new premium qualitythermoplastic spacer developed by Fenzi labs for

Bystronic applicators. The future for South Korea therefore looks very

bright especially considering the latest developmentsin the building industry. Despite the general recession-ary climate in this sector worldwide, the numerouspublic works promoted by the Korean government willrevitalize the local public construction industry. Lastbut not least, South Korea is one of the largest flatglass consumers, with a consumption rate twice ashigh that of Japan and similar to European countries.

54 Warm edgespacer tube topsBFRC chart

The BFRCs (the UK national sys-tem for rating Energy EfficientWindows) recently revised chart of approved spacer bar conductivityvalues has awarded Thermobar Warm Edge Spacer Tube with an

even lower value of 0.16W/mK withor without its gas barrier tape. Thismakes it the highest performingwarm edge spacer tube recognizedby the BFRC.

This update is following further testing at IFT-Rosenheim.Thermoseal Group , manufacturer of Thermobar, has submitted addi-tional samples of different cavity

sizes of Thermobar to an independ-ent test house. These tests haveproven that Thermobar (with gas bar-rier tape) and Thermobar LITE(without gas barrier tape) have thesame test results. Therefore, BFRCcalculations have been altered toreflect this so that Thermobar nolonger has a different value for itstape/backed plastic material. Thus,Thermobar has a universal value of 0.16W/mK for both plastic side and

taped side.Mark Hickox, sales director atThermoseal Group comments: Weare proud to have manufactured our own British-made product whichtops the charts against other warmedge spacer tubes imported into theUK market.

If you compare the taped bar value with the value of our nearest

rival supplying a comparative struc-turally reinforced spacer tube, they arerequired to use a value of 0.29W/mKcompared with our value of 0.16W/mK. This makes Thermobar the highest performance warm edgespacer tube, Hickox added.

    productnewsFurnaces for variable curvaturetempered glass

Variable curvature tempered glassis widely used in display cabinets for refrigerated food, side windows of buses and furniture. However, due tothe fact that the curvature of thisshape of glass changes along its arc,

it is extremely difficult to bend andtemper. Existing tempering furnacecannot really produce curved glasswith changing curvature gradientsuniformly and smoothly, and it iseven harder to process variable cur-vature tempered glass of variousshapes with one tempering furnace. Therefore, enterprises of the industrycan only produce glass of this shapeby adopting thermal bending tech-nology and using moulds. The wide-ranging emergence of such a large

number of hot-bending glasses infood sales areas in supermarkets andthe wide use of such glass in furni-ture cause potential risks in our life.

LandGlass history of research intempering furnaces for variable cur-vature tempered glass dates back to2003 when the straightness of glassproducts straight edge was still notsatisfactory because of processlimitations. Meanwhile,

the accuracy of the curvature arcedge and the uniformity of variousglass curvatures could not be com-pletely consistent with the designedcurve, so LandGlasss first-gene-ration equipment for this shape wereused by only a few manufacturers.

Since 2011, LandGlass has madegreat achievements and break-throughs in the research on temper-ing furnaces for variable curvaturetempered glass. Firstly, LandGlass

adopted new shaping methods andcompletely removed the flaw of first-generation equipment, which pro-duced low accuracy of straightness. In the meantime, LandGlass usednew bending technologies and hassuccessfully produced temperedglass with curves that are highly con-sistent with the designed curve. Moreover, arc consistency of tem-pered glass products from differentbatches has reached a high level.Judging from the operations of the

prototype machine, new shapingmethods and technologies have alsoextended equipment maintenanceperiods and improved the reliabilityof the equipment.

With regards to the temperingdemand for different curvatures,

technicians of LandGlass havearranged combinations of shapemodules and provided various opera-tion options to enable the multipur-pose operations of one machine thatis capable of producing variable cur-vature tempered glass of variousshapes. At present, the new temper-ing furnace of LandGlass is capableof bending and tempering variablecurvature tempered glass of J-shape,S-shape and U-shape, and processing

tempered glass with maximum sizeof 3000ARC2000, minimum size of 300ARC400 and minimum radiusof 300mm.

The J-shape variable curvaturetempered glass products were dis-played at China Glass in April 2012,attracting considerable interest. Withthe promotion of LandGlass variablecurvature glass tempering furnace, thecompany believes that, in the near future, variable curvature glass withhigh safety and excellent quality will

replace hot-bending glass in morefields, providing customers with moresecurity, making life safer and better.

    OMPLETE INSULATINGGLASS PRODUCTION

At glasstec , LiSEC will exhibit high-end insulating glass machines and solutions, which are easy to operate and offer the highest

manufacturing quality. Capabilities to fulfil all therequirements of a wide range of pro-ducts suchas optimized cycle times and ability to manufac-ture double, triple, or quadruple glazed units andstepped glass units are a matter of course.

Additionally, LiSEC will introduce animproved system at glasstec that significantlyenhances the sealing process, particularly at thecorners of insulating glass units. LiSEC will alsoshow the proven frame bending system BSV-45ANK, which is suitable for all common typesof spacer frames.

SORTING SYSTEMS: FULLY AUTOMATIC, RELIABLE AND FLEXIBLELiSEC sorting systems ensure that manu-

facturing lines are fed with the appropriateglass sheets in a fast and reliable manner and inoptimum time. At glasstec, the Austrianmachinery manufacturer will present com-pletely automatic sorting plants, as well as adynamic sorting system. The latter combinesthe advantages of automatic and manualmachines and offers maximum flexibility inchanging manufacturing conditions or whenexpanding production facilities.

A REVOLUTION IN REMNANTPLATE HANDLING AND EFFICIENTGLASS CUTTING

The LiSEC FlyOver is a revolution in remnantplate handling and efficient glass cutting. Theintelligent one-row design of the suction bridgeallows it to move diagonally above the entireglass storage area when no glass is being trans-ported. In this way, the bridge will automatically

follow the shortest path to the next storage rack, which minimizes cycle times and keeps cuttingmachines working at full capacity. This LiSECinnovation offers another revolutionary advan-tage, besides the significant time savingsachieved: The Fly-Over renders costly remnantplate storage systems obsolete by transportingremnants back to the glass storage area and byusing the storage racks as remnant plate racks.

With the improved ESL/RS cutting table,LiSEC offers a machine that can cut and grindglass sheets in one cycle, enabling the maxi-mum overall process speed. This next-genera-

tion cutting table has a new look and brings con-

The shortest path to the next glass sheet:LiSEC FlyOver follows the shortest path andmoves diagonally above the glass storagearea when no glass is being transported

siderable improvements in cycle times and effi-ciency. Furthermore, a new space-saving break-out system will also be presented at glasstec.

FASTER EDGE PROCESSINGThe KBU, LiSECs fully automatic glass

edge processing centre, offers significant timesavings because it permits a continuous CNCwork process. The vertical design and integrat-ed automatic tool changer render tool set-up andpositioning times totally irrelevant and inconse-quential. Visitors to the LiSEC booth will have

the chance to find out more about all of the addi-tional benefits of the new processing centre. TheKBU can grind and polish almost any glass typeor shape with a thickness between 2 and 19 mil-limetres. The system delivers high-qualityedges, is capable of flat edge (FA) grinding andC grinding, and is able to seam shaped and rec-tangular glass sheets, making it the perfectchoice for structural glass, interior glazing, andfunctional and solar glass.

LAMINATED GLASS PRODUCTION AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

LiSEC offers innovative machines and cus-tomized line configurations for professionallaminated glass production. With some recentinnovations in this field, LiSEC will be able toaddress the needs of many customers atglasstec. A pre-lamination line with a new hori-zontal washing machine, an improved foil appli-cation system, and a press system, which allensure maximum precision and flexibility, will

be on display at glasstec. Laminated glass pro-

duction even for shapes or special foil types is now simple and smooth, and the quality of theend product is enhanced.

    OUTSTANDING TEMPERINGTECHNOLOGY

LiSEC flatbed tempering systems deliver auniform structure of unrivalled density and sur-face tension for glass sheets thinner than twomillimetres. This thin type of safety glass bendswithout breaking under high pressure or onimpact. Optical distortions (roller waves),

which are quite common in conventional hori-zontal tempering furnaces with transport rollers, are now a thing of the past. At glasstec visitorswill have the possibility of seeing the strikingproperties of this highly resistant and flexiblethin glass.

    SYSTEM COMPETENCE ALL FROM ONE

Furthermore, LiSEC will provide an overviewof its automation capabilities at glasstec. Well-synchronized machines, integrated automation

Live atglasstec:significanttimesavings inglass edgeprocessingwith theLiSEC KBU

solutions and tailored software packages allowLiSEC to meet all requirements and quality stan-dards in glass manufacturing. This will be pre-sented in a number of live demonstrations atglasstec. Visitors can also gain detailed informa-tion on project planning, production control andquality control in the field of glass processingmachinery. Among other things, LiSEC will pres-ent the GPS.perfectscan glass scanning system, which can now also be used for finished insulat-

ing glass units, in addition to single glass sheets.

ounded in 1972, Pomdi Herramientasde Diamante, S.A. is, today, one of theleading industrial diamond tool manu-

facturers. Company aim is, and always hasbeen, innovation and, to achieve this goal,Pomdi has its own department specializing indeveloping new bonding agents and applyingthem to latest-generation materials.Right from the start, Pomdis has alwaysworked to offer clients of a wide variety of industrial sectors superabrasive industrial dia-mond and cubic boron nitride (CBN) machin-

ing solutions. Superabrasives are beingincreasingly applied in an ever-widening rangeof sectors and processes. This means that agrowing number of companies, and procedureswithin them, are becoming potentialsuperabrasive (diamond or CBN) users.Pomdi now supplies its products to clients work-ing in a large number of industrial markets, in par-ticular the glass, optics, stone, metallurgy, syn-thetic materials and technical ceramics sectors. To face the new challenge of increasingly strin-gent production and quality demands, Pomdideveloped a revolutionary new technology that

will change the way companies use and buy glass-working diamond grinding wheels and tools.

    3NEO

The idea behind 3NEO is simple: if the shankattached to the diamond surface does not wear why change it? Why not replace just the wornpart, and so reduce both cost and waste? This isthe idea invented, developed and launched byPomdi in 2011 as part of the Q-LEAN project toeliminate waste and lower costs.Pomdis 3NEO technology means it is only

necessary to replace the worn diamond surface,

helping minimize operating costs. With 3NEO , glassmakers can lower overheadswhile increasing productivity, as it changeover is 15 times faster than with conventional tools.Pomdis 3NEO technology also means onlyone fiftieth of the stock needs to be kept at thecompany. Moreover, thanks to sophisticatedpatented locking system, the shank and dia-mond ring are held securely in place whilst inuse, but can be detached with a simple clickwhen the worn ring needs replacing.Pomdis 3NEO diamond rings are universaland fit any machine, enabling glassmakers to

stock only those in their usual range of grain
