06/08/2019 TERM 3 WEEK 3 Girilambone Public School News Principal’s Word! Hello all, Welcome to Term 3 of 2019. I trust everyone enjoyed a break from the school routine. On Tuesday 30th we headed across to Marra Creek for the annual Meerkat performance. This years show was based on a book called Room On Our Rock written by Kate Temple. This was a very entertaining performance adapted from the clever picture book has one story that can be read two different ways. When read from front to back, the seals believe there is definitely no room on their rock for others. But when the book is read from back to front, the seals welcome others to shelter on their rock. I think all the children really enjoyed the performance. Also we had a visit from Author, Susie Sarah, this was a great day where Susie shared a number of her stories with the students from Hermidale and Girilambone. She talked about the inspiration for many of her stories as well as the elaborate process that is involved in making a book, from the initial idea through to the printing and distribution of the book into stores. We even wrote and published a book about all of the students and staff who were present on the day. Friday of last week we went to Nyngan to participate in the Small School’s Athletics Carnival and what a fantastic day it was. We had beautiful weather and despite being low in numbers due to quite a number of students being sick, we weren’t low in spirit. All students from the three schools participated enthusiastically and displayed fine qualities of sportsmanship. Congratulations to George Gibson on receiving the Sub- Junior Champion. There was a small mix up when the winners were announced, Sorry George. Also Tom, Ida and Blaine who qualified in a number of events, to attend the Nyngabar District Athletics in Cobar next Friday the 16th of August. Notes with details of events to come home soon. This week is education week, the theme is “Every Student, Every Voice” While we haven’t any formal activities planned for this week, like any time throughout the year, we welcome parents into our school to observe activities in the classroom. Throughout the week we will be holding parent meetings where students have the opportunity to use their voice to identify some personal goals that they would like to work towards throughout the rest of the term. Monday afternoon 19th of August we will be traveling to Nyngan to participate in the Junior Rugby League Coaching clinic. This should be a fun afternoon. I will need some assistance with travel on the day. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Gibson family who are mourning the loss of Mother, Mother-In-law and Grandmother (Gar) Vernette Gibson. Vernette was born and bred in Girilambone and has been a pivotal member of the community all her life. She will be sadly missed. Her funeral is to be held in Nyngan this Thursday the 8th. The working bee we set down for this Thursday the 8th has been postponed until Thursday the 22nd of August. The school will be catering for all workers on the day. This will be the Thursday before our mid-term break so we will conclude the day with a community get together. I am going to try some roasts in the pizza oven. So come along and have a night out and enjoy the company of other community members. Bye for now T` _xã|á Angela Lewis Principal
