Assemble the Half-Square Triangles (HSTs)

Step 1: Pair a 22” Fabric C square with a 22” Fabric J square, RST. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of one square. Sew 1/4” away from both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line, creating two half-square triangles (HSTs). Press toward the darker fabric. Trim to 21-1/2” square. Repeat to make four C/J HSTs.

Step 2: Repeat Step 1 to make four C/K HSTs.

Step 3: Sew each HST to an identical HST, with Fabric C edges sewn together. Repeat for all HSTs.

Assemble the Log Cabin Center

Step 4: Sew Piece 2 to the top edge of Piece 1. Press away from the center square.

Step 5: Sew Piece 3 to the right edge of the unit. Press away from the center square.
