HRW continues to send
gifts each month to the
soldiers that we are
currently sponsoring. Our
Americanism Chair, Tineke
Geringer coordinates everything,
but without the work of several
people, the troops would not get
these wonderful packages.
Home baked cookies go into eachpackage. Claudia Mosley andCarolyn Flintof faithfully makedozens of cookies each month.Contact Tineke if you want to helpout with this aspect of sending support packages to the troops.
The packages are sent through the
postal system by the Gig Harbor
Republican Women, from
individual donors and our Support
the Troops Fund.
When it cones time to putpackages together, not everyone
can make it every time, butmembers who come whenever they can are: Sherry Dougherty,Diana Lindahl, JuDian Guimbellot, Pam Abernathy, Jean Munday, Gail Johnson,Emily Jankord, Carol Hall.
Contributing items to put in theboxes: ALL OF YOU, ourmembers, who contribute at eachmeeting when we “pass the hat”.

Diana’s MessageHappy New Year to Officers andMembers of GHRW. We made itthrough the election. TheRepublican victories nationwideare the best for any political partysince 1932,and they are the bestvictories in the history of theRepublican party. StartingJanuary 3, the newly electedRepublicans will assume their offices.
The 2012 Presidential electionis already beginning preparation.President Obama will take notesand he will give speeches andinterviews where the Republicanswill be portrayed as the party of NO. This time there will be
Democrats joining theRepublicans in saying NO. Theyare aware of the political tsunamiwhich took place this pastNovember. Will Obama be able tosave his presidency? Only timewill tell.
The Republicans will need touse 2011 to prepare for the battleof 2012. The Republicans do nothave a clear front runner for
President. Mitt Romney maybecome the Front Runner, or oneof the new Republican Governorscould come forward. The namesof Chris Christie of New Jersey,Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, andformer Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska are just some being
mentioned now. They all denyany serious interest in the job.We shall see. 2011 will set thecourse.
In 2011, we will continue our close working relationship with theGig Harbor Republican Club, and with the South KitsapRepublican Club. We workedvery successfully on the 2010elections and we plan to continueour successful partnerships.
Linda Siegel, our 1st VicePresident and our Program Chair will be seeking outstandingspeakers for 2011. If you havepersons you wish to recommend, please contact Linda.

HRW sends packagesto troops overseas,
but what happens to
veterans in need once they are back home and out of the service?
To find out some of theservices for veterans in ourarea, we invited two
veterans involved in privateorganizations who work
primarily with veterans.
Larry Geringer, Air Forceretiree and Vice Presidentof the Board of Directors of the Rescue Mission( formerly the Tacoma Rescue Mission ) filled us inon the work that the
Rescue Mission is doing forhomeless men. Larry’s
vision is to expand themission’s Men’s Shelter, tobuild a Veteran’s FitnessCenter, and to end veteranhomelessness.
Attendees at this meeting
asked the question, “how can we help”?
Larry said that the best way to provide help was to callthe Mission directly at253-383-4493 to learn of specific needs at the time
you call.
Rod Wittmier, Army Veteran, Founder, andExecutive Director of Vets
Meet Vets spoke to usabout this uniqueorganization.
This non-profit VeteranCommunity Organization
was formed to createeducational programs forour Veterans and their
families.
The main mission of VetsMeet Vets is to eliminate
veteran suicide in ournation. In the fall of 2008our VA reported thatVeteran Suicide was 18 perday ( that's one every 80
minutes or 6,570 per year ).
Vets Meet Vets takes a pro-active approach by creating community around ourVeterans and their familiesso that they know that they are not alone. We ask our40 & 60 year old Seasoned
Veterans to take on the roleof Coach for our RecentVeterans. They also to takeon the role of HomelessVeteran Liaison to bring our homeless Veterans toservices at The Missionthat Larry works with, andat the VA.

e should all be encouraged
by the gains Republicans
made across the nation:
• In the House of Representatives, thelargest shift of representatives since
1938
• A 6 seat gain in the Senate ( note in
2012, 33 senators will be up for
election, 25 of whom are Democrats )
• Sweeping transformation in the
number of Republican governors a
gain of eleven and 19 state chambers
going Republican.
• Especially note- worthy were gains by
Republican African Americans and
Latinos in Congress, Governorships,
and state chambers
Unfortunately the West Coast with
few exceptions went to the Democrats,
along with our eff orts to elect Dino.
However, we did reelect Dave Reichert
and picked up a congressional seat
with Jaime Herrera. We turned PierceCounty from a blue county to a red
county. And Hans Zeiger is still in the
lead in the 25th as of today, up by 39
votes, mandatory recount starts 29
November.
Additionally two thirds of the voters
voted against income tax and repeal of
the candy tax. As well reinstating the
need for a 2/3 vote to increase taxes.
Clearly the voters are with us on fiscal
issues.
It is truly heart wrenching when a
candidate and campaign volunteers
work their heart out, do everything
right and still not prevail. We need to
thank our candidates and their
volunteers for working to make our
state a better place. Their campaigns
energized voters, strengthen our base,
and in some cases even made their
opponents start talking and acting like
conservatives.
In Pierce County we successfully
elected a Republican in every openRepublican Legislative and County
Council seat. Additionally every
Republican legislative seat remained
Republican. Special kudos to Dick
Muri for getting more votes in Pierce
County than Adam Smith. We came
tantalizing close to gaining 4 legislative
seats, our best showing yet against
incumbents, despite being hugely out
spent by the democrats.

FILM REVIEW
Fire From The Heartland
“Fire From the Heartland” featuresseveral key female Republican figures,
from congresswoman Cynthia Lummis
of Wyoming and Jean Schmidt of
Ohio, to prominent political voices
Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin. But
Bannon credits Palin for “re-
awakening” the conservative female
movement in the United States, and
standing tall against what he calls
personal attacks brought on by the
entertainment community and liberal
media.Background story on this film:

ur 2010 ChristmasParty was held December1st. We tried something a
little diff erent from previous years: we held the Christmas
party at The Gathering Place,Chapel Hill Church. We missedthe warmth of being in the
Schneider’s home, but we didn’tmiss having to cook or clean up!
Stan Schneider still moderatedthe Christmas exchangeprogram, and that made it
almost as if we were at hishome. This was followed by
Progressive Auction, moderatedby Jeanne Foster, president of the SKRW. She brought in a
beautiful Christmas basket to be
auctioned off . It was a bitconfusing at the beginning, butonce we got the hang of it, we
were bidding like crazy for thatBasket. Some of the members
brought in Christmas items for a Silent Auction to add to the fun. Two of our newest members,
Karla Crocker and DianeLucciarini brought in their
beautiful Christmas Swags, rosehip jelly and applesauce to help with the Wounded Warrior
project.
