MANILA, Philippines - The countrys business processoutsourcing industry (BPO) generated revenues o $8.9billion in 2010, a year-on-year growth o 26 percent, theindustry association reported Wednesday.

Its biggest sub-sector, the contact center, grew over21 percent to $6.1 billion last year, overtaking Indiasrevenues and making the Philippines number one inthe world, the Business Processing Association o thePhilippines (BPAP) said.

We achieved robust growth in all major sectors o theindustry: voice-based BPO, non-voice business supportand complex services, and inormation technology, saidBPAP chairman Alredo Ayala.

The Philippines now leads the world in voice-basedcustomer service, added Benedict Hernandez, presidento the Contact Center Association o the Philippines(CCAP).

BPAP said the BPO industry employed a total o 525,000skilled workers and proessionals in 2010, up 24 percent

    rom 2009.

Over the next ve years, the industry is expected to growby about 15 percent, translating to over two million indirect and indirect jobs and $20 billion in revenues.

But with greater collaboration rom all stakeholders, including government and the academe, we have thepotential to grow at 25 percent a year. This would create1.3 million direct jobs, 3.2 million indirect jobs, and $25billion in export revenues, Ayala said.

The numbers also show that our non-voice BPO sector, including back- and mid-oce business support and high-value knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), grew astestat an impressive rate o 30 percent in 2010.

We now employ more than 100,000 proessionals in thissub-sector-with many o these BPO employees comingrom nancial and accounting, legal, and medical sciencesbackgrounds, he added.

Data on the relatively smaller outsourcing sectors o IT,transcription, animation, and game development revealedthat these sectors have recovered rom the globalnancial crisis as markets in buyer countries placed ordersand started implementing stalled contracts in 2010. All
