President’s Report
Hi everybody,
It looks like the CAR season is about to start if it would only
stop raining. Even with the rain, there have been a few days
good enough to get out for a quick cruise.
Our first shop tour this year will be at Pacific Car Art on
Sunday March 29th. We are planning to meet at Tim Horton’s
at the Abbotsford Auto Mall at 10:00 am. We will be leaving
at 10:30 am for Pacific Car Art. The address is: 30513
Brookside Ave., Abbotsford. Helmut and Carol Tepper have
invited the Mopar Club to view their art studio. There are
hundreds of limited editions prints on display along with
hundreds of die-cast collectibles and everything is for sale. It
is always a treat to tour their studio.
For our April club meeting, Garry Payne will M.C. because I
will be at the Spring Fling car show in LA. Mark Fletcher and I
will attend with My Addiction 1964 Dodge. This will be the
first long distance trip for the car and will be fun as long as
there are no speeding situations (ha ha). The Spring Fling is
the largest Mopar car show west of Chicago. Spring is also the
time to watch the Harrison’s car show list so you can plan for
the events you might want to attend.
That’s it for this month! Hope to see you at our first shop
tour.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY “DUSTY”
Wiki Facts – Plymouth Duster
History
The Duster coupe provided the compact-sized Plymouth Valiant with a sporty body style to attract customers.
The car was a $15 million effort to update the compact Valiant for the 1970 model year. The Valiant badge
appeared only on the first model year Dusters, and continued to be used on all the companion 4-door sedan and
2-door Valiant Scamp hardtop models. The Duster was built on the Valiant platform and shared the same front-
end sheet metal, but featured a different design from the cowl back.
The Duster was also positioned to compete with Ford's slightly smaller semi-fastback Maverick compact car and
the AMC Hornet that were both also introduced in 1970, and the slightly larger semi-fastback Chevrolet Nova
whose design was introduced in 1968. While the Maverick and Nova were offered in a 4-door sedan body style,
the Duster nameplate was used only for the 2-door coupe. The Duster was also marketed as an alternative to the
original Volkswagen Beetle, as well as the new class of domestic subcompact cars such as the Chevrolet Vega.
Numerous trim and option package variants of the Duster were offered with names that included Feather Duster,
Gold Duster, Silver Duster, Space Duster, Duster Twister, Duster 340 and Duster 360. These marketing variations
of the basic Duster design targeted customers seeking economy, cargo capacity, and/or performance.
Duster logo was, and still remains, one of the most recognizable automobile logos. Chrysler employee, Thomas
Bertsch (1952-1987), created the "twister" logo and font. Many corresponding graphics were used for different
trim packages over the years. Bertsch was the director of the interior styling and design studio for much of his
career.

S.F. (Sylvanus Freelove) Bowser sold his newly invented kerosene pump to the owner of a grocery store in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on September 5, 1885. Less than two decades later, the first purposely built drive-in gasoline service station opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bowser’s invention, which could reliably measure and dispense kerosene – a product that had been in demand for half a century – soon evolved into the metered gasoline pump. first gas pump "calm shell" early pump image from road map S.F. Bowser’s “Self-Measuring Gasoline Storage Pumps” became known as “filling stations.” An upper clamshell closed for security when unattended. Originally designed to safely dispense kerosene as well as “burning fluid, and the light combustible products of petroleum,” early S.F. Bowser pumps held the same amount of fuel as the standard 42-gallon oil barrel. Bowser kerosene pumps used marble valves, a wooden plunger and an upright faucet. With the pump’s popular success at Jake Gumper’s grocery store, Bowser formed the S.F. Bowser & Company and patented his invention in late October 1887. first gas pump S.F. Bowser volatile liquid dispenser patent 1887 Bowser’s 1887 patent was a pump for “such liquids as kerosene-oil, burning-fluid, and the light combustible products of petroleum.” Within a decade – as the automobile’s popularity grew – Bowser’s company became hugely successful.

The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak dominated the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown class in 2018, with Mopar Top Fuel driver Leah Pritchett claiming the title and setting a handful of records along the way. However, the introduction of the newest Ford Mustang Cobra Jet drag car has led to a tough 2019 season, but Mopar has the answer in the form of the fourth generation Challenger Drag Pak.
“Mopar and Dodge/SRT collaborated to make this factory production-based Challenger Drag Pak not only a forced to be reckoned with at the strip but also an instant collectable for Mopar enthusiasts,” said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts & Customer Care, FCA – North America. “Our legacy has been won at the track by the women and men who pour all they have into being the best. This new Challenger Drag Pak gives them the tools to stay in front of the competition.”
Like past Drag Pak models, the 2020 Challenger race car was formally introduced at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and while this track-only muscle car is very similar to past versions, there are a handful of new features inside and out that give it a unique look while also giving it a better chance of knocking off the Mustang Cobra Jet drivers.
The 2020 Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak,
unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show, delivers
sportsman racers a new, turnkey package
loaded with suspension and chassis upgrades
and is certified for NHRA and NMCA
competition. Production is limited to 50
serialized units.

The Hellcat Look The most obvious change for the fourth generation of the Challenger Drag Pak is the exterior styling. The Mopar team has added the front and rear fascia from the Hellcat models along with the hood from the 2015 through 2018 Hellcat cars, with a front-feed hood scoop and a pair of heat extracting vents on each side. Considering the popularity and success of the Hellcat Challenger, coupled with the air flow advantages of the hood and front fascia, making the move to style the Drag Pak after the supercharged street car is a smart move. Next, Mopar worked with Weld Racing to develop a lightweight wheel package, including beadlock wheels out back and skinnies up front, all of which are wrapped in track-ready Mickey Thompson tires. Continuing with the race-ready theme, the 2020 Challenger Drag Pak also comes with wheelie bars and a parachute, both of which are integrated into the chassis design.
