Election of officers for the 2018-2019 term will be held at the Cowtown Mopars March monthly club meeting. You won’t need a photo ID but your 2018 dues must be paid to vote. Let’s pack the place in March for a big voter turn out. If you are interested in running for any of the elected offices (listed on page 2 of this newsletter) we would love for you to “throw your hat in the ring”. All elected offices are open for nominations and contesting. Contact any officer before the March meeting in person, by phone, text or email. If you would like to help out on any of the committees (Race, Show, Activities, News-letter, Membership, etc.) contact them directly. We would love to have you.

Thanks

Happy Valentines Day from the President

From The Veep’s Desk Finally, a road trip with the Challenger. No more puttering around on surface streets at 35 or 40 mph. There really is an 8th gear, and the road around Austin headed for San Antonio is just the place to find it. Reminds me of a song; “Can’t drive 85”. We had another great turnout for the January meeting with 33 members in attendance. Next month’s meeting will be held a week later on February 25th due to those entered in the Autorama would not be able to get there in time. Be sure too join us at Bill Boon’s Texas Trailer Mans shop for that month’s meeting. The race team is getting geared up for the new season with a few new tracks on the schedule. Instead of Waltzing across Texas, it will be Racing across Texas. Good luck racers. The spring car show will be here before you know it. This years event will be hosted by Summit in South Arlington along with Classic CDJR. Be sure to contact Ron Carroll or one of the board members to volunteer to make this one of our best shows ever. Veterans Day weekend update. I got to board a C47 air craft similar too what my dad flew medivac during WWII. Something I will never forget. I’ve included a picture of the plane and me in the cockpit with his flight log from the states and the South Pacific. Wish I had known about the book while he was still alive, so many questions. Nancy and I also visited the Pacific War reenactment in Fredericksburg. What a great weekend. It will soon be election time for the club officers, nominate someone or yourself. New faces and ideas are always welcome. This is your club, come out and lend your support.

VP Frank

A little more respect dept...my first car being a 1964 Dart GT I had always heard of the 1966 D-Darts but knew little about them. Then I read the “Landy's Dodges” book. In 1966 Dodge built a Dart for the NHRA D/Stock class thus the nickname “D-Dart”. Factory equiped with a 273 CID V8, hot solid lifter cam, Holley carb, headers and the A904 transmission (aluminum case 727 Torqueflite) shifted with linkage instead of cable. With a little “tweaking” they ran in the 14 second zone. Very respectable. We got enough people, we could hold a meeting dept...the Breakfast at Rudys wild bunch held an impromptu meeting in the Wheel department at Summit Racing last month. See photo be-low. What a good looking crowd. And that salesman. Wow. Mopar spotting...finally saw my first Demon in person the other day. It was in the Summit Racing parking lot. Impressive in photos, even more so in person. This one was red. The hood is almost all hood scoop across the front and two inner “headlights” take in still more air. Huge front spoiler. Had road race tires similar to the Viper instead of the skinny fronts and rear DOT slicks in the ad. Passenger seat and back seat. I know the passenger seat is a one dollar option but I did not know the back seat offered at all. Guess this means you can scare the heck out of three people instead of just one at a time. Speaking of the Viper...I always wondered why the Viper did not have a Hemi as an option. I read where surveys suggested that. Especially now as one might get a “HellCat” or “Demon” engine. If I remember right the record holding fastest qarter mile Viper has a gen II Hemi swapped in. We will see dept...Chevrolet is supposed to release a 707 hp Corvette. Can't wait for a strip shootout of the Demon and a Vette. “Shut Down” all over again anyone? Hearing more and more about the new track in Ferris. Can't wait to see it in person. Speaking of racing, NHRA Winternationals on Feb 11. Have not heard of any real rule changes to Pro Stock, Pro Mod or Super Stock to make the show any better. Here's hoping anyway.
