Takes place in the Kansas Union 5th and 6th Floors (check in is located in the 5th Floor Ballroom)
Approximately 60 school districts from Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas will be participating
Check KUCareerHawk.com/edinterview for list of participating districts
Opportunity for you to conduct 20-30 minute screening interviews with school district administrators (for up to 10 interviews)
Some districts may have an information table where you can talk more informally with their representatives (ie, Richardson, TX)

Before signing up for interviews, you will need to register for KU Career Connections and upload a resume to your account
May interview with up to 10 districts If you’ve interviewed with a district recently or plan to this
semester, don’t sign up for an interview with them at Education Interview Day
Types of interview schedules: Elementary = candidates completing a license for
early childhood and elementary grades Secondary = candidates completing a license for
middle and secondary level grades. Mixed = open to ALL endorsement areas a, b, c = If school districts have more than one of a
certain type of interview schedule (ie, 2 elementary schedules).

On School Districts Check KUCareerHawk.com/edinterview for a list of attending
school districts Visit district websites to conduct some initial research before
the event (size, grade configuration, specific programs, etc.) Complete an online application for each school district you are
interviewing with (or at least your top 3-5) Prepare a few thoughtful questions to ask district
representatives at the end of your interview that shows genuine interest in their district
On Yourself Create a list of at least 5 skills/qualities that make you a good
teacher candidate Provide evidence for those skills – think of stories and specific
examples that demonstrate these skills

Keep it positive – avoid negativity. Demonstrate professionalism and passion for your profession!
Provide concise answers that answer the question and demonstrate results and impact

Remember your five qualities when you’re stumped.
It’s okay to ask for clarification
Pausing is okay too – but not too long
Welcome all questions with a smile. Let your enthusiasm for this profession show.
Be honest! If you don’t know or if you haven’t had experience with something, say so.

General Questions Tell us about yourself. Why should our district hire you? What are the three most important strengths you possess that will make you a successful
teacher? What areas do you need to improve upon as a teacher? How would your students describe you? What mistakes do you think you might make as a teacher? What steps would you take to
fix those mistakes?
Behavioral-Based Questions (STAR Method) What classroom management techniques have you used? How effective have they been
for you? Describe a teaching strategy you used to maximize the learning potential of all students.
Hypothetical Questions What problems do you foresee you will face with students? What strategies will you
utilize to resolve these problems with students? How would you handle the following situation…..?
Wrap-Up Questions What questions do you have that I may be able to answer?

4. Prepare a few questions to ask district representatives
What are your current or anticipated vacancies for the upcoming academic year?
What qualities, characteristics or experience do you typically look for in a new teacher?
What extracurricular activity opportunities might be available?
What are you most proud of about your school/school district?
What would faculty, students, and parents say are the strengths of your school/school district?
What is the typical hiring timeline and process for your district?

Prepare Your Outfit Highly recommended that you wear a suit
Keep it conservative – solid, darker colors
Make sure skirts are at least knee length
Keep your accessories very minimal
Remove distracting piercings
No strong cologne or perfume
Finishing touches – polish shoes, matching belt, socks

Review the event guide/map to identify where districts are located (remember some districts will have display tables with representatives available for you to talk to)
Check your appearance, take a deep breath
Remember to introduce yourself to each district and greet everyone with a firm handshake and a smile
Offer a copy of your resume to each representative
Ask thoughtful, relevant questions
Exude confidence, but not arrogance (smile! )
Request a business card or contact information
Be aware of the time – avoid being late to your interviews
How to Follow Up After Education Interview Day Organize the information you collect, make notes
Write a thank you note or email to each district you interviewed with within 1-2 days after the EID (great opportunity to send a targeted resume and cover letter as well)
Conduct any follow up that was requested at EID in a timely manner
Stay in contact with the district throughout the hiring process
