Candlewick needs the good people who have the best interests of our community at heart to consider running for the Board of Directors. Last month’s article mentioned some of the things that will be required of you. There will be monthly Board meetings as well as special meetings, retreats and Board workshops. You will be expected to be a part of some committees, commissions, road clean-ups and other activities. To do the job right, you will need to prepare for meetings with research and have facts and figures to back up your votes and opinions. Plan on this being a time consuming job. You will receive phone calls, emails and in-person questions and comments from the residents. Yes, your votes will anger some no matter what your posi- tion, and that is just part of the situation you must accept. On the flip side, you will meet some great people who work tirelessly to better our way of life. You will be a part of decision-making that will affect us for years to come. All our resident’s opinions matter, but it is on your shoulders to cast the vote. There will be one seat open for election in the coming year. Be sure to look further into this issue of our paper to see the qualifications as well as the instructions for filing your resume and application. Please consider this if you are willing to put forth the effort to be a Board member who will give it your all. If you want more information, please feel free to call or email any Board member or the main office. We are all happy to help. SNOW WARNING FOR PARENTS Please keep your children off of the snow piles created by the plow trucks. If the trucks are out plowing or come back to do clean up, they may not see children playing behind the snow pile. This creates a serious safety issue. Please be aware of the lake conditions before venturing onto the lake. We do not want anyone to fall in because the ice was too thin. Thank you to the leaf collection volunteers! A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped with the leaf collection this year, especially Jim Brefeld for taking on the responsibility of organizing the event. Without the volunteers, the leaf collection project would not take place. Again, thank you to everyone who gave up one or two of their Saturday mornings. Without the volunteers, this project (sponsored by Lake Management) would not happen. Leaf Collection 2016 Merry Christmas from All of Us at Candlewick Lake!

SIGN-UPS CONTINUE

Christmas Dinners & Gifts for Candlewick Residents in Need

So far this year CWL residents have 9 families, representing 30 children and 26 adults, from whom to choose to provide a gift, a turkey or the makings for the balance of a holiday dinner in our Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program. All families have been pre-qualified by the Belvidere/Boone County Food Pantry and the pantry is in the process of providing us with more families to assist in this time of need.

Each family will receive a turkey with all the trimmings to prepare a holiday dinner as well as two gifts per child, aged 17 years and younger, an article of clothing as well as a non-clothing related item.

Residents are asked to sign-up to provide one or more of the following: Turkey, Dinner Items, or a Gift. Instructions will be given at the time of sign-up.

Sign-up takes place at the Recreation Center Activity Desk, during normal business hours through Monday, December 12th or until all dinners and gifts have been selected. Also beginning on the December 1st there will be containers located at the Administration Office and the Recreation Center for anyone wishing to drop of either miscellaneous food items to supplement the dinners or small unwrapped items which can be used as stocking stuffers. There is a particular need for stocking stuffers for teens.

All turkeys, dinners and gifts (wrapped and tagged) need to be dropped off at the Recreation Center on Saturday, December 17th between 1:00pm – 3:00pm for delivery that day. Please make sure all turkeys are thoroughly frozen.

Any questions, please contact Bonnie Marron at [email protected] or 815-765-2030 or Sandy Morse at [email protected] or 815-765-2377.

APPROVALS/PERMITS REQUIRED & OBTAINING BUILDING PERMITS

Any type of construction project requires approval by the Environmental Control Committee and/or Building Inspector and most cases a building permit must be issued.

Applications must be submitted and plans approved for any project. Application forms along with specification sheets for individual types of construction are available in the office or can be found in the rules under the Building Department (ECC/Building Department Rules and Regulations) on the web site at www.candlewick-lake.org. The Rules and Regulations can also be checked to find out if the construction project needs approval.

The ECC meets the first and third Wednesday of each month. Please see the schedule for the deadlines for submitting plans for approval.

After applications for construction projects are approved by the ECC, approval letters are sent out to the property owner. If the construction project requires a permit, the approval letter states at what meeting the application was approved, that a permit must be purchased in the Candlewick Lake Office before construction may begin, the cost, the office hours, a reminder that all dues, fines and fees must be paid before the permit is issued, a list of projects that also need a Boone County building permit and a notice to call the CWL Building Department for a final inspection when the project is complete.
