TIMES Summer Explorations courses are offered in 3 different sessions. Summer Environmental Workshop courses are offered Sessions 1 and 2, with both morning and afternoon classes. Be sure to verify the dates and time for each session in the course descriptions.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration for summer programs begins on March 8, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. Registration will close on March 29, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. For additional information about these courses, please contact 913.239.4246. Please use ParentVUE to register students for courses. This can be done by navigating to https://bvpo.bluevalleyk12.org/. Additional information for registering is included at the end of this packet. Students enroll for the grade they will enter in the fall of 2021. The payment window will open on April 14, 2021 and it will close on May 5, 2021.
ATTENDANCE Any student who will miss more than 2 days of class should not enroll. Students will be dropped from the roster after 2 missed classes and will not be eligible for a refund. Any cancellations after the registration deadline may result in an administrative fee.
OTHER INFORMATION Summer programs are financially supported through student tuition. Registration is not complete until payment is received. Students with outstanding fees may be removed from class rosters beginning on May 6, 2021. Fees are not adjusted for free/reduced lunch status. Programs may have wait lists based on content, facilities, equipment, and teacher availability. For additional information about the wait lists, contact 913.239.4246. All courses are contingent on the minimum enrollment and availability of staffing.
COVID 19 PROTOCOL The district will continue to employ appropriate COVID-19 mitigation practices during summer programs for safe learning environments including, but not limited to, wearing masks/face coverings, social distancing (when possible), temperature screenings, enhanced cleaning/sanitizing practices and more.

the forest, learn about the wetlands, and work in the WSC’s
butterfly garden while studying the garden’s flowers and insects.

Exploring Kansas Habitats at WSC Grades 3 - 4 (5001 W. 163rd Terr. Stilwell, KS) Students will engage in a variety of outdoor activities exploring
nature by studying the three main habitats at the WSC: forest,
wetland, and prairie. Hands-on activities will energize and
enhance their experiences. Students will be interacting with
nature through observations, journaling, collecting, recording,
measuring, graphing, and hiking. This is an opportunity for

Girls in STEM – STEM Tales! What are STEM Tales? STEM Tales are a series of STEM
challenges that use a fairy tale that your child is likely already
familiar with. By adding in a story element, students find joy in
transporting themselves into a story to solve a problem. This is a
great way to integrate literacy and STEM activities to kids. The
classic fairy tales engage the kids, and as they read through the
story they are seamlessly led through the Engineering Design
Process. This course is specifically geared to introduce girls to
becoming interested in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math.

“I Like You!” with Mr. Rogers, Daniel Tiger, and Lady Elaine Feelings can be happy, or they can be scary and hard to feel. We
will explore Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and his friends’
encountering their emotions and dealing with them in healthy
ways. We will make a Daniel Tiger Puppet, Mr. Rogers’s
stationery, and have a Lady Elaine and Prince Friday fashion
show! Your child will end the week more confident in feeling,
accepting and expressing his or her emotions in healthy ways in
this sometimes overwhelming world.

Intro to Role Playing Games (sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 sessions) Role Playing Games allow students to engage in collaboration,
creativity, problem solving, and acting through the medium of an
imaginative game. Session 1 will be an intro to Dungeons and
Dragons game play, students will learn how to engage in role
playing, utilize game functions to add chance, and develop their
character’s behavior in real time. Session 2 will allow for more
small group independence, play through an entire week long
quest. Session 3 focus is on acting as a game master, designing
your own characters and exposure to the Star Wars RPG system.

The course content applies and extends previous understandings of operations with positive rational numbers to all rational numbers. Students will dive deeper into concepts learned in 6th grade math to prepare them for Advanced Integrated Math 7. Jumping to 8th Grade Algebra (Incoming 8th Graders ONLY) This course is intended for students who did not take Advanced Math in 7th grade, but wish to take Algebra 1 as an 8th grader. Concepts will include, rational and irrational numbers, applications of the Pythagorean Theorem, volume and surface area of three-dimensional objects, including pyramids, cones, and spheres. By successfully completing this course, 7th grade Integrated Math students will be prepared for Algebra 1 their 8th grade year. NOTE: This course is a 3-week session, and students are

Junior Naturalist Training at WSC Grades 5 - 6 (5001 W. 163rd Terr. Stilwell, KS) Incoming 5th and 6th grade students have an opportunity to learn as a
Wilderness Science Center Junior Naturalist. To fulfill that role,
students will engage in many outdoor skills while studying ecology,
biology, and environmental science. Students will learn to identify
Kansas plants and animals, their special adaptations, and examine
how they interact with each other at the Wilderness Science Center.
The activities will include reading the land by looking for clues,
interpreting their findings, and drawing conclusions about the flora
and fauna of Kansas. Students will have the option to return the
week of June 21st to help with a 1st/2nd grade session for one day.

Just Cheer! This class is about exploring who we are as cheerleaders and
building our confidence! It is taught by the same instructor as
Just Dance, who is a current NFL cheerleader. Routines and
cheers will be taught throughout the week. Games involving
dance and cheer will also be incorporated. Students will have an
opportunity to collaborate with other cheerleaders to make their
own routines and chants to virtually perform for each other and
families at the end of the week! There will be no stunting or
tumbling in this class.

Just Dance! This class is about exploring who we are as dancers, as well as
learning about the different styles and techniques of dancing.
Some genres that will be explored are Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip
Hop and Pom. Routines in each genre will be taught throughout

Students will have an opportunity to collaborate with other
dancers to make their own routines to virtually perform for each
other and families at the end of the week! This class is taught by

Lightning Fast Needles Have you ever wanted to learn how to make cool knitted or
crocheted scarves, blankets, or headbands? This exploratory
class will teach the basic stitches of both knitting and crocheting
so that you will have all the tools to be able to make your own
creations! Some advanced options and stitches will also be
taught in order to jazz up anything you make!

Make a Menagerie: Creating Animals in Art Students entering grades 1, 2, or 3 will spend the week looking at
animals in famous artworks and creating their own “zoo” inspired
by what we see in the paintings -- as well as our imaginations.
Students will paint lions, collage owls, create fish or peacocks
with clay -- and lots more! We’ll get messy and have fun learning
about the animals we make and the artists that inspire us.

Middle School Rocks! Welcome to middle school. This course is for incoming 6th grade
Blue Valley students only. In this course you will learn everything
you need to know to feel successful before your very first day of
middle school. In a fun and creative way you will learn about how
your 6th grade day is structured, your daily schedule, electives
offered, organization and study tips, goal setting, getting involved,
making or maintaining healthy friendships, building a positive self-

Ping-pong with Star Kids This is an activity that kids will enjoy playing with each other. We
