Dear Parents: We are heading into our final term for the 2016-2017 school year. It is so hard to believe that we are in the final stretch of our school year. This term is jam packed full of events for all ages. Working with our PAC we are hoping to host a Wonder Fair at the end of May. Families will have an opportunity to share their culture with our community through technology, food and traditions. A second notice was sent home last week and we are hoping to increase the number of families that want to take part in a table display. Last week we had Track Attack taking place. Students in grades 4 through 7 are introduced to all of the track and field activities and learn the basic skills of each event. Track practices have begun—students are encouraged to look at the schedule on the rolling blackboard in the main entrance. Currie heads to Minoru for our track meet on Tuesday, May 9 th . Right after the Easter weekend, our grade 5 and 6 students will be heading to Camp Jubilee located in Indian Arm for their 4-day outdoor education experience. In early May, we will welcome our new Kindergarten students for their Welcome to K experience. Sincerely, Ms. J. Rooney Mr. C. Satisfaction Survey for Parents - Your Input is Valued Help us plan for the future by telling us about your education experience. Students in Grades 4, 7, 10 and 12, their parents and all staff in B.C. public schools are invited to participate in an annual online satisfaction survey about their school experience. The parent survey is available in 16 languages and takes about 10 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous and confidential. The survey is open until the end of April. To take the online survey now, using a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome, or Firefox, and go to: http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm You will need to contact the office for a log-in code. For those who do not have access to a computer, we would welcome your input by using one of the school computers. Please speak with Ms. McAdam, Ms. Rooney or Mr. Daum for more information.

Are you leaving General Currie next year? We are already planning for next School year and need to have an accurate number of the students attending in September, 2017. If your child is not returning to General Currie next year because you are moving or changing schools, please let the school office know as soon as possible. You can either drop by the office during operating hours (8 am to 4 pm) or call us at 604-668-6440. Thank you! Also, Registrations for next year Kindergarten students are still being accepted at the Richmond School Board office.

BASKETBALL This year our Grade 6/7 students enjoyed an awesome basketball

season with great school spirit and sportsmanship! Students have participated in two basketball tournaments this year. One at Richmond

High before spring break and we were at Palmer on Tuesday, April 11th. The girls were successful and won the tournament and the boys lost a nail biting finale in the final 3 seconds! Both teams showed excellent participation and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Thanks very much to our coaches who put in lots of their personal time to provide this wonderful opportunity for our students. Thank you to Mr. Thesiger, Mr. Campbell and Mr. Daum.

Vision, Mission and Values Project

Students from General Currie took part in helping to share their experiences that will help to develop new Vision, Mission and Value statements for the Richmond School District. These statements will inspire and guide us in our work over the next ten years as an educational organization. The need for these statements is timely and has emerged from multiple factors including our redesigned curriculum and goals for education in BC as well as the need to update our existing statements to reflect our current community.

• A Vision statement helps us imagine possibilities about what schools could be.

• A Mission statement describes the purpose about what schools do.

• A Value statement identifies the behaviours and actions that reflects our identity, culture and priorities.

Students in various divisions began thinking with their classroom teacher about what is important in our education system. They were asked questions, and provided opportunities to represent and share their stores and ideas in different ways. In the end, their work will be shared with the stakeholders involved in this process so that student voices are included and reflected in our new Vision, Mission and Value statements. Student representatives also joined a sharing evening April 12th at Steveston-London Secondary with our school trustees and board executives.
