William H. Nason Jr.
William H. Nason, Jr. William H. Nason, Jr.,
passed away peacefully on January 14,2010with his family by his side. Dad was born on
May 28, 1918 in Veazie, Maine to William
Nason Sr. and Nellie Fortier Nason. He spent
his younger years working with his family on
various dairy farms in Monroe, Blue Hill,
Bangor and Wells, Maine. The hard work and
harsh weather shaped his strength of character
and strong work ethic. At age 21 he enlisted in
the Army and was sent to military police
training in Biloxie, Mississippi, serving two
years as a military policeman. From there he
transferred to Sioux City, Iowa, for cadet
training in the Army Air Corp. Upon
graduation, he served as an air transport
navigator, flying on C54's to the South Pacific
war zones. After his honorable discharge, he
came to Eureka to join the rest of theNasonfamily. While working at the California
Barrel Factory, he met and fell in love with
Vera Vincent of Arcata. Dad then went to work
for Kramer Auto Supply as an outside
salesman, along with his life-long friend, Bill
Finnegan. Together, Bill and Dad founded
Finnegan and Nason Auto Supply in 1955.
Dad retired in 1978 after selling the businessto his son, BillNason, III. Dad loved salmon
fishing with his father and crossing the bar
with his brothers, son and friends. He enjoyed
traveling with his family and spending time at
their summer home in the Little Golden Gate

subdivision in Bridgeville. He had great
memories of boating and water skiing at the
old Orick Boat Club. He could beat anybody at
poker. Dad was the most loving and generous
husband, father, and brother that anyone
could ask for. He always had a twinkle in his
eye and a shy smile on his face. Dad was
preceded in death by his parents, brothers
Roy, Bob and Harold Nason, and also by two
sisters, Dorothy Wahlund and Pearl Nessier. He
is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vera
Nason, his son William(Pamela), his daughter
Laura MacMurchy, and grandsons Kyle andNathan Sanford. He is also survived by his
brother Clarence Nason (Eleanor) of Arcata,
sisters Shirley Tuel of Eureka, and Betty Ball of
New Hampshire. The family would like to thank
the staff of the Rehabilitation Department at
General Hospital, and the Pacific Rehabilitation
Center who took care of dad over the past six
weeks. Special thanks to Shirley Tuel for all
she has done for our family over the years. Per
Dad's wishes, a private family service was held
at Sander's Funeral Home on January 18,2010.
