BHAGAVAD GITA – THE DIVINE SONG-An Introduction

Bhagavad Gita-Part of the Sanskrit Epic Mahabhaaratha.(200 BC to 200 AD)

700 verses in 18 chapters.

A conversation between Lord Krishna and his close friend Arjuna in the middle of the battlefield just before the start of the Kurukshetra battle.

Arjuna loses his heart and refuses to fight his teachers and relatives, and Krishna revives him by his wise words of wisdom.

Whatever things are of Saathwic, Raajasic & Thaamasic nature, know these to proceed from Me alone. They are in Me, but I am not in them.

Due to these three kinds of objects produced by the three constituents of nature, the whole world is deluded & it fails to cognise Me, the immutable Reality beyond them (Satwa, Rajas, & Tamas.)

Indeed this divine delusive power of Mine is hard to cross over. Those who surrender themselves exclusively to Me pass beyond this delusion.

Arjuna, 4 types of virtuous people worship me: the afflicted, the seeker of worldly possessions, the seeker of knowledge, & the person of wisdom.

Bhagavad GitaUDAARAH SARVA EVAITHE’ JNAANEE THWAATHMAIVA ME’ MATHAM, AASTHITHAH SA HI YUKTHAATHMAA MAAME’VAANUTHAMAAM GATHIM. (7.18)

Indeed all these 4 types are noble, but the man of wisdom is my very self. He has his mind & intellect merged in me and is firmly established in me alone.

Bhagavad GitaYO YO YAM YAM THANUM BHAKTHAH SRADHAYA ARCHITHUMICHCHATHI, THASYA THASYAACHALAAM SRADHAAM THAAME’VA VIDADHAAMYAHAM. (7.21)

In whatever form a person wishes to worship (Me) with devotion, I stabilize his/her faith in that very form.

Possessed of that faith, he desires the worship of that form. From that divinity he secures the objects of his desires; for, I Myself has ordained them.

Veiled by the delusive power of My Yoga-Maaya, I do not stand revealed to all. This deluded world does not know Me, unborn & immutable.

Arjuna, all beings in creation get confounded due to the delusion of dualities born of attachment and aversion.

But those who have no more sins, who act righteously & who are liberated from the delusion of dualities, worship Me with a steadfast will.

Resorting to Me, those who strive for release from old age and death come to know that Brahman in Its wholeness, is also the self and all the work.
