A VIEW TO THE FUTURE

Kym’s Comment

Principal

Dear families and friends Swimming Program What a splash! The swimming program is well underway. The Prep to 4 students have thoroughly enjoyed the swimming ses-sions at the pool. Their skill development in a relatively short time has been wonderful to see. The students have been in small groups of around five. Numbers for the senior program are low at this stage and depending on the parent response, we may have to cancel the senior swimming program.

Congratulations to our athletes Well done to Ella, Shaun, Lachlan, Tyronne, Isabelle and Jas-mine for competing in the Zone Athletic Carnival. Congratula-tions to Tyronne who will compete at the Regional Carnival to-morrow

Fancy Dress Disco The children who were able to attend the PFA Disco last Friday evening had a wonderful time. The costumes were fantastic –some children were unrecognizable! Thank you parents and families for putting in so much effort and thank you to our won-derful PFA team for their hard work and organisation.

Cricket and Little Athletics workshops Next week there will be cricket workshops for the students in P-6 and Little Athletics Workshops for students in Prep- 4. There is no cost for the workshops. Many of our students participate in Little Athletics and enjoy the different activities.

2014 Our planning for 2014 is underway. – We are currently looking at enrolment and funding projections for next year. Our school team will also be involved in discussion and planning for next year in regard to classes, specialists, curriculum planning, events and programs. School Council is considering aspects of planning - in particular the 2014 budget.

Any parents who have specific requests regarding the place-ment of their child are asked to pass on any information in writing – as always we are seeking to make the best possible educational plans for all children in our school. This information needs to be provided by Friday 25 October. If your child is due to commence school in 2014 please call at the office to complete an enrolment form. If you know of friends who have children due to commence school in 2014, encourage them to visit our school. Please call the office to arrange for school tours.

2014 Science @ Gembrook Gembrook Primary School applied for a Science teacher as part of the DEECD Primary Mathematics and Science Specialists initiative. We were successful! I expect to hear more details shortly. This program will enrich the high quality educational programs provided to the students at Gembrook. The outdoor learning centre will be used for this program.

PreSchool – School Transition Program This term the Gembrook Pre -School will use the school library for one of their sessions each week. Staff from the school and the pre-school are working closely together to plan for this transition program. The first session was on Tuesday. It went extremely well with the pre-schoolers exploring the school grounds and participating in a range of activities in the library. This extensive transition program will provide a strong founda-tion for their first days at school.

Run Gembrook A wonderful and dedicated team of parents have been working on preparations for this event for quite some time. Plans are well underway and we are hoping for good weather and good numbers. Please keep the date free for participating in one of the events or for assisting in the morning around the track.

Trivia Night There are some great items for the silent auction at the upcom-ing Trivia Night. It promises to be a great evening. A flyer with details was sent home this week.

Victorian School Garden Awards Visit Our Eco Warriors are very excited at the prospect of meeting the judges of the Victorian School Garden Awards on Friday. The judges will arrive by helicopter on Friday afternoon and will spend time with our eco warriors talking about the schools sus-tainability program. Well done to our eco warriors! We are very proud of your efforts and leadership in the school. Enjoy your week!

Food and Blanket Bank Great News! A food and blanket bank is about to be trialled in the local community. The aim is to collect and distribute frozen meals that will help a family manage a challenging event in their life. The idea is simple: if you or someone you know could do with a meal, regardless of the reason, call either Tim Dewar or Pippa Goodie and we will arrange delivery of the meal to the family who needs it. We can all contribute meals to the bank or access meals when the need arises for us or someone else in our Gembrook community. Rather than reinventing the wheel, St Luke's Anglican Church in Cockatoo is happy to support us in this effort as part of their community program. If you want to know more, help, give or collect, please call either Pippa (0408 541 658) or Tim (0400994975).
