Rider Profile - Jenny McMillan (Gus & Leila)

1. How long have you been a member

of Gisborne DARC? Since 2006

2. How long have you been riding? How did you get started? My Mum and Dad both rode, mainly working stock on their parents' farms, so I was sitting on horses from a very young age. Dad played Polocrosse in the 50's.

3. What are your biggest riding achievements? Dabbling in a variety of equestrian activities - eventing, showjumping, campdrafting, novelties, etc, and developing a lovely relationship with my horses. 4. What are you goals for the next 12 months and further? To continue having a really nice relationship with my "mates', and to have us all compete confidently and happily. I want to give Gus a bit of a break and put more work into Leila now.

5. When you’re not riding your horse, what can you be found doing? (e.g. day job, other hobbies you enjoy) I have been a Primary Teacher, specialising in Physical Education, since 1976. I retired at the end of 2010 and have become a qualified Barefoot Trimmer. I now enjoy a great balance in my working life, as a part time trimmer and Casual Relief Teacher, particularly in P.E. I love catching up with my 3 children, Jesse 30, Fraser 22 and Kristy 19, and with friends.

6. Who are your favourite riders and why? Chris Chugg for his SJ skill and sex appeal! Will Enzinger for all-round eventing talent and gentle, accepting way with his numerous mounts. Ruth Webb for her commitment, bravery (2* eventing!) and support given to us mere mortals!
