Our SJ went off without a hitch (what a re- lief!!). It was great to see such fantastic club spirit out on display on the day. I would personally like to thank our super president, John, for going out of his way to help me on the day. Bailey was most grateful, I’m sure! Unfortunately for us horsey folk, the end of day light savings means less hours for riding and feeding out in the dark! I’m already counting down the days until we get those precious hours of sunshine back! I hope you’re all managing to get some time in the saddle. At least we have our Winter rallies to look forward to at the amazing Jacks Run. Be sure to get your rally bookings in to Cathy to ensure your spot. We have lots of things on the horizon at the club, with our Dressage day planning in full swing, our new logo in the making and a possible XC clinic in the coming weeks to prepare for TTT HT. Busy times!! Happy riding, Fiona. A note from our President…. Hello riders! I wanted to say thank you very much for your outstanding support for our official Show- jumping day in March. Two days out from the closing day we had just 8 entries. We had great support from our social media campaign and our members, and we finished with 56 entries. As far as finances go, that took us from a certain loss to a small but healthy sur- plus. More importantly, we had excellent support from volunteers to set the course up, run the rings and pack up after the event. We had lovely feedback about the quality of the courses, the efficiency and the friendly and effective support from club members. It really showed the club off as an inclusive, supportive club. Thank you so much. I was proud of the club and the committee. We've also invested in a complete new set of jump wings. They are lighter, stronger and easier to use than the old ones, so a good invest- ment all round. Next investments in the showjump equipment will be to upgrade some of the rails, and build some more infill - walls and plank type rails, plus some flash new start and finish signs and numbers. We've also got some grounds improvements on the calendar in conjunction with the Rob- ertson Reserve Committee. Watch out for new tie up yards and improvements to the surface of the arenas and round yard. Watch out for winter rally notices too - we've got the use of Jack's Run in Bolinda again this winter. The facilities are fabulous - Plenty of space and the arena surface is world class. As a mark of respect, we will be taking extra efforts to keep the arena and grounds spotless while we're there, and completely spot- less when we leave. We've also been looking at design submissions for a replacement logo for the club - check the GDARC facebook page to see some of the submissions and give an opinion on your preference. (No - you don't need to buy new uniforms - just use the new logo when you replace your existing gear.) Last piece of news is that we've already started work on an official dressage day at our grounds on October 18th this year. Its a good year for the club - we've been welcoming one or two new members each month - currently standing around 58 members (unofficial count!). We've been able to maintain and grow our available funds and also to invest in infrastructure and continue to subsidise instruction at the rallies. We've already had an excellent result from our official showjumping day, and prospects of another official competition in October. John.

after themselves and their horses at rally,

please keep this up and set an example for

    others.

Club grounds cannot be ‘booked’ for private

    Club Rallies

To ensure our rallies run with ease, please ensure that you arrive on time especially if you’re rostered on for

set-up duty. We have invested in new jumps and we really need to make an effort to use them each rally.

Please lend a hand and help grab equipment out of the shed each morning on rally days. This makes our

instructors jobs much easier as they can then set the courses with ease.

We’ve had positive feedback from rallies so far this year and we have booked Amber and Oliver Evans

again for the May rally. What a great opportunity for our TTT HT teams to get some extra coaching in!

Lesson rates are as usual 1 lesson is $35, 2 Lessons are $60 and 3 lessons are $90. The deadline for the

Feb rally is Friday the 6th.

Please forward your bookings using the attached booking form to Cathy at [email protected].

TTT Combined Training by Gillian Leach Gisborne DARC fielded two teams at the JA Photographics TTT Combined Training on 14th & 15th March. This was held at the Bulla Club grounds so was very convenient for us. We were very fortunate to have good weather at the event. Congratulations to Rachel McDaniel who was 3rd in the Level 4C class with an excellent dressage score and 1.75 time penalties in the Show jumping. Jenny McMillan also did well winning the 8th place rib-bon after coming 10th in dressage and clear in Show jumping. Brigid Donovan was very happy with her calm dressage test and I was very pleased with Ric as we would have been 7th if we hadn’t had the 5 penalty points for riding below our dressage level. Sam Cronk’s horse, Cambridge, cut his heel badly the day before the competition so she had to scratch unfortunately. We were very grateful that she and her dad, Darrell, still came along to volun-teer on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, we had all finished riding by lunch time, so we were able to enjoy a barbecue lunch cooked by President John and washed down with some bub-bles, before we all helped with the volunteering in the afternoon.

TTT HT The next TTT event is Horse Trials which is being held at the Bulla grounds this year. We have 2 teams entered and ready to go. We would love to see the GDARC crew out and about over the weekend, showing support for our riders and club. Thankyou to the mem-bers (Karen Middlebrook, Kristy Hess and Cathy Simmons) who aren’t riding, but have vol-unteered to help out at the event. True club spirit on show! Good luck to our two teams!

    All things TTT!

“Why aren’t you riding at the SJ day?” was the question I kept being asked leading into the closing

date for our competition. I had a few excuses up my sleeve to keep people quiet! “I’m not ready, I

haven’t jumped for weeks, my horse is a baby OTTT and he’s not ready…” You get the idea! I was

more than happy to play my role on the side lines, picking up poles in the crash crew!

When John Leach called me, to say we were close to cancelling the day altogether due to low

numbers, I knew I had to put my excuses to rest, and sign on the dotted line. I had about a week

to prepare my said baby OTTT for his show jumping debut. Its fair to say that my preparation was

not perfect with a fall on the lunge line and a slipping saddle resulting in a cranky horse and nerv-

    ous rider! Great combination!

Nonetheless the day arrived, we rode and we came 3rd overall in the Level 5 jackpot! I was super

happy with my boy, who battled through the day with a little help from our super president himself.

The day went off without a hitch. Club members volunteered (as did their parents) and we ran a

superb competition with great courses and a fantastic atmosphere. I was super impressed with the

quality of riders in each level, especially with members of our club placing in each level. Caroline

had a cracking day in Level 4 on Wilco coming reserve champion! Anneli Tucker showed her great

skill and amazing horse-woman-ship by riding her 2 trusty steeds in a hectic schedule over the day.

Her not so skinny TB ‘Yes Indeedy’ came 3rd overall in the Level 3 jackpot and jumping machine

‘Valentina Rose’ came home with Reserve Champion in Level 2. Anneli got my vote for ride of the

day when she absolutely nailed the Level 2, 2 phase course, taking some impressive lines on Tina,

who is not a small horse!

Overall, it was a fabulous day (even if I did miss out on the crepes!!) We are super proud of the

club for turning around what was almost a non-event, into a successful day for all involved! Cant

wait for next years SJ day!
