Defining media

• Mass communication - ability to reach many people at same time– Each individual type is a “medium”– Comes from verb “to mediate”– Includes publishing, gaming, filmmaking,

photography, music, broadcasting and internet– List growing all the time; many new media

platforms combine different media in one (convergence)

socialising and image alone
