The Governor’s Community Achievement Award (GCAA) is an annual award sponsored by Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The GCAA recognizes communities that involve citizens, businesses, schools, local government and youth to keep their city, county or region beautiful. Communities submit materials to one of 10 population categories and judges choose the winners based on their achievements in seven environmental and community improvement areas: community leadership and coordination, education, public awareness, litter prevention and cleanup, illegal dumping enforcement, beautification and property improvement and solid waste management. Coppell received 96.75 points, out of a possible 100, to place second in Category 7 (communities with a population ranging between 40,001 and 65,000). Coppell is also being recognized for Sustained Excellence in the GCAA for the fifth year in a row. Coppell has a history of success in the GCAA. In 2006, Coppell won first place and was awarded with a landscape project from TxDOT, which was completed last summer at Freeport and IH-635. Coppell also placed second in the 2007 awards. The GCAA program has recognized outstanding communities since 1969. Coppell will receive its award on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 during KTB’s 44th Annual Conference in Austin. Keep Coppell Beautiful wins Second Place in 2011 Governor’s Community Achievement Award

COPPELL, Texas – Keep Coppell Beautiful continues its award winning ways with a second place finish in the 2011 Governor’s Community Achievement Award.
