ANGELES CREST HWY RUN
JULY 9, 2018
The group in scramble mode after Jack said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines.”
Jack Walter organized a Monday Driver’s run on the Angeles Crest Highway. The weather in the LA Basin was in the 90’s and we found no relief in the mountains. We met at Krispy Kreme like many times in the past. For some reason, they were giving away free donuts. I know Jack is looking for a meeting spot that doesn’t have a left exit through a traffic light, but the chance of getting a free donut may be the compromise for some cars being separated by traffic lights. Bob Borge came equipped with six GoPro video camera. David borrowed his son’s GoPro for added coverage.
The rest stop at Clear Creek Visitor Center before heading to Wrightwood
The Angeles Crest route was approximately 56 miles. There were plenty of turns, a few tunnels and chances to play dodge-rock. (For a large part of the trip we were on the north side of the mountains headed east with our lane next to the mountain side. As a consequence, any rocks falling on the highway were in our lane,)
We arrived at the Evergreen Café in Wrightwood for lunch. As we feared, even at 5,935’ elevation, the temperature was in the high 80’s. A few days before our run, Jack called ahead to make sure they had more than one server for our group.
Through the “magic” of GPS, the lost were found, and all arrived at the Laguna Mountain Visitor Center about the same time for a rest stop and a group photo.

The winner of Jack’s 50/50 raffle was Gary Gaffney. Both he and the club got $55.
A group photo with President David. Not everyone was present because many ran to their air conditioned cars and others were inside the café keeping cool. Regardless of the heat, it was a fun, well planned outing. Thanks, Jack. Pat
