One year aster Cyprus' exit from the economic adjustment programme, funded by the
EU and the IMF, the international rating agency S&Ps recently upgraded Cyprus'
longterm credit rating to BB+. This is the second consecutive upgrade since last
September. Now Cyprus is only a notch away from the investment grade category. This
upgrade confirms the Cypriot economy`s growth prospects as well as the stable and
sustainable course of the public finances. Furthermore Cyprus has approved the signing
of the contracts with energy giants ENI, TOTAL and EXXON, regarding the natural gas

The Cyprus Museum of Food and Nutrition in collaboration with Neapolis University
organized an Open Lecture on Friday 03 March and Saturday 04 March at the Amphitheatre
– Neapolis University. The title of the seminar was: Empowerment of Small & Medium
Cyprus Food Production Enterprises.
It is important to mention that the organization of the seminar has been co-funded by the
US State Department, through the program Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) -
https://alumni.state.gov/aeif and from the action Erasmus + KA2 through the
«International cooperation - the guarantee of development of local products program».
The event was addressed by the President of the Museum of Cypriot Food and Nutrition, Dr.
Chrystalleni Lazarus, by Mr. Christos Christou on behalf of the Mayor of Paphos Mr Phaidon
Phaidon and by Dr. Christos Papadimitriou on behalf of the rector of Neapolis Univeristy
Professor Spyros Makridakis.
NEAPOLIS UNIVERSITY HOSTED A BOARD MEETING OF THE UNIVERSITY NETWORK OF EUROPEAN CAPITALS OF CULTURE (UNEECC)
A Board Meeting of the University Network of European Capitals of Culture (UNeECC)
was hosted by Neapolis University on Friday, February 3rd 2017. Neapolis University is a
member of the Network. Prof. Dr. Spyros Makridakis, Rector of the University, opened the
meeting and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Julia Georgi, President of the Department of Architecture, Land
and Environmental Science, was assigned by the rector to participate in the Board Meeting
on behalf of Neapolis University.
UNeECC President Prof. Flora Carrijn (KU Leuven University) thanked Prof. Makridakis for
the hospitality and the involvement of Neapolis University in the network. Members of the
UNeECC Board that attended were Dr. William Chambers (Pro Vice-Chancellor Emeritus,
Liverpool Hope University-UK), Prof. Fiona Catherine Chambers (Director of Sports Studies
and Physical Education, University College Cork –IR), Dr. László Imre Komlósi (Vice Rector of
International Affairs, Széchenyi István University, Győr, West Hungary), Katrin Holmqvist-
Sten (Senior Lecturer - Associate Professor, Cerum –
The event was coordinated by Dr. Christos Papadimitriou,
Lecturer of the School of Economics and Business of the
Neapolis University.
The event was attended by distinguished guests and many
other attendees including academics, professionals of SMEs
and students.

Tsagkaridis, a lecturer in Experimental Psychology, was invited
to analyse the participation of the School of Health Sciences in
the Pafos 2017 Cultural Barometer, and Yannis Koutsolambros,
member of the Pafos 2017 Cultural Capital of Europe Board,
presented the work of the Organisation.
Dr. Georgi offered the members of the Board a visit in the
architecture studio, where students are currently working on a
project for Pafos 2017, under the supervision of Dr. Georgi,
Evanthia Dova and Angeliki Sivitanidou, lecturers in the
Architecture programme. “Spatial Counterpoint”, a project led
by Erica Charalambous, dancer and choreographer, is a
collaborative dance performance- intervention in the historic
center of Pafos, in which choreographers, architects, and
dance and architecture students from Pafos and abroad will
participate.
The visitors expressed their interest in the contribution of
Neapolis University and the work that is being undertaken with
respect to Pafos 2017 Cultural Capital of Europe. Scientific
collaborations are already under way, such as signing an
Erasmus Agreement with Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu
(RO), and the participation of Neapolis University as a
supporting institution in the European Conference RE-VALUE –
Rethinking the value of arts and culture, organized by Aarhus
University (DK), aster a proposal by Dr. Georgi which was
unanimously approved. More information about the

Culture for 2017! Following a spectacular
ceremony held on the 28th January 2017 in the
city's restored central square with a beautiful
set and the exquisite artists, who gave their best
on stage, “enchanted” the audiences and stole
the show in this magnificent atmosphere of
celebration, worthy of the history of the city of
Kinyras, which is now at the spotlight of Europe's

the performance, while Yourcenar's texts – one
of the leading literary figures of 20th century
France – highlight the poet's work, emphasising

international production with actors from

The lament of the women of Troy, aster its

and Jerusalem. The world-famous director
Theodoros Terzopoulos, with associates from
the international theatrical sphere, the great
actress Despina Bebedelli as Hecuba, highlight
the international drama of division and the

existence, peace. Savvas Stroumpos is the
assistant director and Panagiotis Velianitis is
political dimension, the existential and physical

the Ancient Odeon is hosting the recitation of such

The poetry of C. P. Cavafy, which carries a nostalgia
for a lost human voice, allows Thodoris Economou to
approach it with his music, in an attempt to shed light
on man's passions and faults. With an eye on Bob
Wilson's Odyssey, the lights dim out and the music
navigates the myth of Odysseus, as envisioned by
Thodor is Oikonomou. Cavafy 's “ I thaca” is
accompanied by the recitations of the actor Giorgos

The successful presentation

CYPRUS APPROVES CONTRACTS WITH
Cyprus has signed on April 5 and 6 contracts with the selected bidders
of the third licensing round for explorations in blocks 6, 8 and 10 of its
Exclusive Economic Zone, Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has
announced. The three contracts have been approved by the Cabinet,
the Cyprus News Agency reports.
The body authorised the Minister to sign the contracts with the three
companies. “The signing will take place on the 5th and the 6th of April
and the details will follow very soon,” Lakkotrypis announced to the
press aster the meeting of the Cabinet. Asked whether the contacts
differ from those signed with companies in previous licensing rounds,
the Minister noted that the contracts were negotiated on March 7, as
announced.
“Today we had the opportunity to present both the technical and the
financial results, as well as the legal (results) of the negotiations, in
detail to the Cabinet” he said. Lakkotrypis confirmed that upon the
singing of the contracts the state will receive 103.5 million euro. The
Minister said that besides the drilling in block 11, the Italian energy
company ENI is planning another two but they have yet to determine
in which blocks. “So our intention is to have the drilling in block 11 and
have another two drillings before year`s end, at least begin before the
end of the year”. Replying to a question, Lakkotrypis said that recent
statements by Turkish officials do not cause concerns among the
companies.
“Let us move on with confidence to address the challenges before us,
economic, political and geopolitical and remain committed to our
goals, which is more exploratory programme”. The applicants
selected in the third licensing round are the consortium of ENI and
Total for Block 6, Eni for Block 8 and the consortium of ExxonMobil
and Qatar Petroleum for Block 10
Friday's, March 17, upgrade by Standard and Poor`s confirms the Cypriot
economy`s growth prospects as well as the stable and sustainable fiscal path,
Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades has told Cyprus News Agency, reaffirming
the government`s commitment to a balanced budget policy.
One year aster Cyprus` exit from an economic adjustment programme funded by
the EU and the IMF, S&Ps upgraded on Friday Cyprus long-term credit rating to
BB+ from BB in its second consecutive upgrade since last September. Aster
Friday's rating action, Cyprus is only on notch away from the investment grade
category. “This upgrade constitutes a very credible confirmation of the Cypriot
economy`s growth prospects as well as a confirmation of the stable and
sustainable course of the public finances as well,” Georgiades told CNA.
He highlighted the agency`s projection that a balanced budget, which
constitutes the government`s basic target, as well as the very satisfactory
growth rate will continue in the medium term.
Georgiades also highlighted that fact that this upgrade comes one year aster
Cyprus exit from the financial assistance package.“This precisely confirms that no fiscal relaxation or growth slack took place in the
last year but in fact these were maintained and strengthened,” he said.
Asked on the agency`s projection that fiscal relaxation towards the end of the
year due to the presidential elections in early-2018, Georgiades said S&P
believes that “despite this theoretical risk, Cyprus will continue running on
balanced budget.”
He recalled that in this context the government has taken actions such as the
indefinite freeze in hiring in the public sector, as well as agreement with the civil
servants trade union for no salary increments for the period of 2017 and 2018.
These are moves that confirm the government`s commitment and concern not
to repeat bad practises of the past, that accelerated in election period,” he said,
adding “we will absolutely avoid this.”
Furthermore, Georgiades pointed out that Cyprus should heed the remarks by
the agency both concerning future upgrades as well as the issues that would
retract Cyprus` upgrading track record.
“In this context we should all realise that big delays in approving reform
proposals or even worse, rejecting reforms entails cost both to the country and
to the economy,” he said, adding “obstructing the reform agenda hurts the
country and not the government.”
The Finance Minister said the government will shortly table new proposals for
the civil service reform and for attracting a private investor in the island`s
Telecommunication company (Cyta), proposals rejected by the parliament.
He said the government will incorporate positions and concerns by the
parliamentary majority in a bid to maintain the reform momentum because this
the expectation shared by the international investment community as usually
reflected by the rating agencies.

году выросла на 14%, что по данным Росстата достигло
рекордного показателя 790 тысяч. Греция с 782.5 тысячами
российских туристов (рост 23%) замыкает пятерку самых
популярных направлений среди россиян в 2016 году.
