Winter 2019

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas! I can’t believe we just had our December GASHE meeting. Where has the time gone? We are winding down for 2019 and gearing up to have a successful 2020.GASHE has seen many changes this past year since I became your President. Our membership has continually grown in both Business Partners and Engineers at each meeting, but one of the things I’m most proud of is the quality education that we have provided our members at each meeting.

our members an 8 hour training seminar called “Advanced Construction in Healthcare Facilities Workshop for Facility Management”. The course was prepared by Amy Walker, ICRA Solutions and we were honored to have both Kelly Proctor from DNV-GL Healthcare and Terry Parrish from

knowledgeable in preparing students for their CHFM and CHOP B, A & E exams. The training started at 1PM on Thursday and ended at 5PM. Although there was a lot of information

whether DNV or Joint Commission Accredited. Then on Friday, we started early at 8AM and class ended at noon. The two day session was packed with information for sure, but I believe each and every participant came away with a new perspective and appreciation of the skills/knowledge needed to pass these tests.

As always our Business Partners stepped up and helped to bring this training to you. I’d like to

Young, Steam-hCo, CCI Critical Components and STI Firestop for participating in our Business Partner Expo and providing refreshments after dinner. Without our Business Partners, GASHE could not continue to grow and meet the needs of our members. Our dinner meeting was a fun time for all and as always we had a great menu. Everyone seemed to love the Plinko Board and I’d like to give a big shout out to Rob Wilson for building it. The room

it will be an asset to the shelter and a great example of GASHE Business Partner’s work quality for years to come. The Board is already starting to prepare for the March Annual Conference. Please go ahead and mark your calendars for March 11-13, 2020. It’s sure to have some great learning opportunities and good networking time for all.As the year comes to a close, please remember to keep your GASHE family, your own family

for people, so reach out and show them you care. If I can be of any assistance, please reach out to me. I’m here as your President, but also your friend. I know there are some great things coming in 2020 for GASHE. I’m excited for it and I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! Thank you for all you do. I wish each of you a season of peace and joy, shared with those you love.

DNV-GL has received numerous requests asking about their top 10 physical environment non- conformities. We struggled with this request because the non-conformities tend to change frequently due to education, communication and changing requirements and we did not want to publish information that could be rendered out dated in a short period of time. DNV-GL decided to evaluate the accreditation surveys that were performed during 2019 and break out the 10 most

year in no particular order.

Top 10 – DNV-GL Physical Environment Non-Conformities

2) Non system components being supported by components of the Fire Sprinkler System

physicians/surgeons not receiving appropriate training)

4) Physical environment ligature risks (in dedicated and designated psychiatric areas)

5) Compressed medical gas cylinders not individually secured

6) Inaccurate/missing electrical panel schedules

8) Battery operated lights - Missing Inspections

9) Fire doors – not functioning as required
