OVER IN IOWA – Go Climb a Silo! – Cedar Falls, IowaAny student of geography can tell you that Iowa isn’t known for its mountains. The state has some rolling hills in places, but it’s pretty much on the level. What it does have is farms with tall silos - and that inspired Professor Don Briggs of the University of Northern Iowa to turn one into an icy adventure. Back in 2001 he devised a method of flooding water down the side of a 4 story silo near Cedar Falls – and as the saying goes, “If you build it, they will climb…” Silo ice climbing now begins at the silo every year when the weather is consistently below 26 degrees.  Anyone who wants to try ice climbing is encouraged to visit.  A warming house has a full supply of gear needed to climb. Dress in warm, breathable, and comfortable clothes - An experienced staff will help with equipment and teach you how to reach the top. The Silo is open Saturdays 10 am to 5pm and Sundays Noon to 5pm. Fees are $35/day or $150 for the season. http://www.siloiceclimbing.com/ 2524 Jepsen Rd, Cedar Falls, IA 50613

13 –April 5 Five Presidents –Milwaukee Repertory Theater The World Premiere of Five Presidents written by Emmy Award-winning writer Rick Cleveland (House of Cards, The West Wing, Six Feet Under, and Mad Men). The cast includes Broadway and television veterans Mark Jacoby, Martin L’Herault, Steve Sheridan, Jeff Steitzer, and Brit Whittle, along with Rep Associate Artist Reese Madigan. Originally commissioned by Milwaukee Repertory Theater as part of its new play development program, Five Presidents is a funny and incisive drama about the meeting of America’s most exclusive club – the ex-presidents. Obliged to gather together on the day of Richard Nixon’s funeral, four “exes” and one “current” vent frustrations, revisit old grievances, and reveal the toll that it takes on any person foolish enough to seek the highest office in the land. “The Presidents who gathered together for Nixon’s funeral were Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, George Bush, Sr., and Bill Clinton, who had only been in office for about a year,” says Artistic Director Mark Clements. “The play explores the presidency, how these men evolved over the years, and what extraordinary friendships develop between men who were often arch-enemies in office. Once they held the office of the presidency – even though they were on disparate sides of the political fence – they often became great allies. Five Presidents is interesting inasmuch as it isn’t driven by a sequence of events; it’s more an observation on this very unique club called the presidency.” PH: 414-224-9490 or www.MilwaukeeRep.com
