Student Objectives/Student Outcomes: - The students will be able to identify civil disobedience as non-violent protests and
an action in order to gain social and political change. - The students should also be able to give examples of civil disobedience such as
fasting, sit-ins, and boycotts. - Students should be able to breakdown a lesson with the introduction of the Know,
Want to Know, and Learned (KWL) format – Gaining them important information about Gandhi and civil disobedience
- With these aspects in mind, the hopeful outcome of is for the students to be able to identify people and events in history that have used these movements and the importance of Gandhi in this type of change
Content Standards: (From the Common Core Standards For English Language Arts & Literacy In History/Social Studies…etc.)
- Integrate information presented in different media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively) as well as in words to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.
- Pose and respond to specific questions with elaboration and detail by making comments that contribute to the topic, text, or issue under discussion.

Teacher’s Goals:- As a teacher I hope to have the students be able to identify forms of civil
disobedience and how they could apply this themselves- As a teach I want to be able to use the technology in the classroom more smoothly
than the first two time I taught- I want to effectively hold the students attention while I give my brief lecture and
have them fully participate in class
Time 10-1010 Start of Class: Get class working on the KWL worksheet as they come in
1010-1020 Introduction of Lesson: Introduce that topic for the day, Gandhi and Civil Disobedience. Then have them as a class talk about what they already knowand what they want to know about Gandhi and Civil Disobedience anddiscuss how we will come back to the sheet at the end about what theylearned
1020-1040 Lesson Instruction: Use the Prezi to talk about Gandhi’s life and his influence using civil disobedience. Then discuss the people influenced byGandhi and their uses of civil disobedience
1040-1050 Assessments/Checks for Understanding: The assessment will be having the students write down answers to an open ended questions asked in class suchas:
- How did Gandhi first gain his political activism?- What was Gandhi’s influence on the U.S. Civil Rights Movement?- What was one of the most recent acts of Civil Disobediance in popular
culture?
Then ask the students to discuss any other lingering questions that they havethat may not have been answered by the informational session.At the end of the Prezi there are a few quotes and pictures to ask the studentsIf they feel they were influenced by Gandhi or not.
