Report Two Day Orientation Programme of Academic Counsellors for Life Sciences & CPLT Programme

held on 20th & 21st February 2014 (Thursday & Friday) at IGNOU Study Centre-2708 (U.P. College, Varanasi)

Two day orientation programme of Academic Counsellors for Life Sciences & CPLT Programme has been organized by Regional Services Division (RSD), IGNOU New Delhi, Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), IGNOU, New Delhi and School of Sciences (SOS), IGNOU, New Delhi on 20th & 21st February 2014 (Thursday & Friday) at IGNOU Study Centre-2708 (U.P. College, Varanasi) under IGNOU Regional Centre, Varanasi. 16 Academic Counsellors attended the Two Day Orientation Programme. The attendance sheet of the Participants is being attached as Annexure No.1. The agenda of the two days Orientation Programme is also being enclosed as Annexure No.2.

The Orientation Programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Principal, U.P. College, Varanasi by lighting the lamp of Maa Saraswati. In his inaugural lecture, Dr. Singh blessed the IGNOU functionaries, Academic Counsellors and assured to extend all possible support to IGNOU Study Centre which is established in the premises of U.P. College, Varanasi.

In the beginning of the orientation programme Dr. Padmakar Singh, Coordinator, IGNOU Study Centre-2708, U.P. College, Varanasi welcomed Dr. Bano Saidullah, Associate Professor (SOS), Resource Person who came from IGNOU, New Delhi and Dr. Amit Chaturvedi, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Varanasi & Academic Counsellors.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amit Chaturvedi, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Varanasi highlighted the utility of Orientation Programme and organizational structure of IGNOU and development of distance education. Dr. Chaturvedi has also appreciated the efforts of the Headquarter, IGNOU, New Delhi organization of dual mode Orientation Programme through teleconference & face to face.

After inaugural session at IGNOU Study Centre-2708, the transmission was started through teleconferencing from IGNOU EMPC from 10:30AM to 13:45PM. During the live telecast all the Academic Counsellors saw the presentation of the Resource Persons sitting in the EMPC Studio New Delhi with keen interest and had a good interaction with them.

After the teleconferencing session and in post lunch session of 1st day of Orientation Programme Dr. Bano Saidullah has interacted with the Academic Counsellors of Life Sciences & CPLT Programme. During her presentation she spoke about the modalities of Life Sciences & CPLT Programme in detail. Dr. Bano Saidullah explained about utility of assignments, modalities of the credit systems, examination system, projects of Life Sciences & CPLT Programme through power point presentation.

In 2nd Day of Orientation Programme in pre lunch session Dr. Bano Saidullah continued her presentation through power point. The Orientation Programme was very fruitful and many queries were raised by the Academic Counsellors and she replied each and every query. Dr. Bano Saidullah has also explained about the theory as well as practical counselling session and project details of AHE Programme in detail.

The post lunch session of second day of Orientation Programme was taken by the Regional Director and Assistant Regional Directors. During the Power Point Presentation, Dr. Amit Chaturvedi, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Varanasi spoke about the overview of the Regional Centre and Study Centres and importance of the working of the Regional Centre as far as the IGNOU is concerned. Dr. Chaturvedi explained about theory as well as practical Counselling session in detail to the Academic Counsellors through Power Point Presentation and he also said about the utility of counselling, importance of the tutor comments and how it is useful in the Open and Distance Learning and modalities of the Term End Examination to the Academic Counsellors.

Dr. Reena Kumari, Assistant Regional Director has informed the academic counselors about the importance of evaluation of assignment in the Distance Education System. She informed that the comments on the assignment are only way to communicate the information to the distant learner.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Varanasi has informed the academic counselors about the utility of the multi media in the Open & Distance Learning.

Dr. Kirti Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director has informed the modalities of term end examination and assessment system of IGNOU.

The Orientation Programme was conducted very smoothly and fruitful discussion with Academic Counsellors took place. The function was concluded with the suggestion from the academic counselors during the feedback session after tea on second day. (Copies of Feedback form received from RSD are attached as Annexure No.3).

At the end of the Programme the Certificates for Participation were issued by Dr. Bano Saidullah, Associate Professor, SOS, IGNOU, New Delhi and Dr. Amit Chaturvedi to each and every academic counselor who attended the two day Orientation Programme. The format of Certificate is given below-
