Orange and Blue seek first point at ATL for second straight season• Just like last season, after falling in their season opener, FC Cincinnati will head to

Atlanta where they will look to claim their first MLS point of the season• Last year, after falling in the season opener to Seattle Sounders FC, 4-1, the Orange

and Blue responded with a 1-1 draw at Atlanta United in their second match• After conceding an early goal to Josef Martinez, FC Cincinnati found the equalizer late

into the second half when Roland Lamah tallied his lone FCC goal

Garza, Vazquez prep for ATL return• FC Cincinnati’s Greg Garza and Brandon Vazquez are returning to the pitch where they

both claimed their first MLS Cup Championship – Mercedes-Benz Stadium• Garza (2017-18) and Vazquez (2017-19) emerged victorious in MLS Cup 2018, as Atlanta

defeated Portland, 2-0• Garza made his first appearance against the Five Stripes in an emotional FCC debut,

as he entered the match as a substitute in the 71st minute ... the left back did not play in the return match at Nippert Stadium on Sept. 18, 2019

• Vazquez could make his first appearance against his former side on Saturday ... the forward did not make an appearance in either matchup between FCC and Atlanta last season, but he was named to the 18-man matchday roster for the match in Cincinnati

In Cruz control to start the half• Since joining FC Cincinnati prior to the start of FC Cincinnati’s inaugural MLS season,

Allan Cruz has been the club’s leading scorer with eight goals to his name.• The Costa Rican midfielder opened his 2020 account with his 46th-minute goal at New

York in FCC’s season opener• Of Cruz’s eight career goals in MLS, three have come in the first minute of either half

... the midfielder twice tallied within the first minute last season – at Chicago on July 13, 2019 and at Montreal on Sept. 14, 2019

• Additionally, Cruz has also tallied twice within the first ten minutes of a match – he scored in the seventh minute against Montreal on May 11, 2019 and in the eighth minute against Vancouver on Aug. 3, 2019

New league, familiar debut for Locadia• As was the case for the Eredivisie and the Premier League, forward Jurgen Locadia

wasted little time introducing his goal-scoring prowess to Major League Soccer• Locadia scored just 19 minutes into his FC Cincinnati debut, giving the Dutch striker a

goal in his league debut for the third time in his career ... Locadia notched a hat trick and added an assist in 22 minutes of playing time at VVV-Venlo on Sept. 30, 2012 ... he also scored in eight minutes of playing time against Swansea City on Feb. 24, 2018

• The Dutchman also scored in his professional debut in a Dutch Cup second-round match at VVSB Noordwijkerhout on Sept. 21, 2011 at the age of 17

• While limited to just 26 minutes on the pitch, the forward’s impact on the match could be felt instantly ... through one week of MLS matches, Locadia leads all MLS players in shots per 90 (13.85) and shots on goal per 90 (10.38) among all players that have played more than five minutes

Second-half surge signals improvement• FC Cincinnati scored not one, but two goals in the second half in their season opener

at New York on March 1• That match marked the first time FC Cincinnati scored multiple goals in the second

half of a match since the Orange and Blue defeated the Portland Timbers, 3-0, on March 17, 2019

• Overall, it marked just the fourth time FCC have scored multiple goals in a single half ... In addition to the two already mentioned matches, the Orange and Blue tallied twice in the first half against Houston on July 6, 2019 and also in the first half at Columbus on Aug, 10, 2019

First multi-goal comeback still awaits• On two separate occasions in their season opener at New York on March 1, FC Cincin-

nati narrowed a two-goal deficit ... the Orange and Blue, however, were unable to level the scoreline at any point in the match

• Through 35 all-time MLS regular-season matches, FC Cincinnati are 0-20-0 when trailing by more than one goal in a match

Five FCC debuts highlight season opener• Five FC Cincinnati players made their first-ever appearance for the club in the season

opener at New York: Yuya Kubo, Haris Medunjanin, Adrien Regattin, Brandon Vazquez and Jurgen Locadia

• Kubo, Regattin and Locadia also made their first-ever appearances in MLS• Medunjanin (Philadelphia Union) and Vazquez (Atlanta United FC) both joined FC

Cincinnati in the offseason after spending the previous three seasons with their first-ever MLS clubs

• While he did not make his FCC debut, defender Tom Pettersson was named to the 18-man matchday roster for the first time as an FC Cincinnati player

Richey, Manneh return after lengthy absences• After missing significant minutes last season following injuries, Spencer Richey and

Kekuta Manneh returned to FC Cincinnati’s 18-man matchday roster in the club’s season opener at New York

• Richey, who started for the Orange and Blue against New England on July 21, 2019, missed the final 12 matches of the regular season after suffering a back injury ... the goalkeeper made three saves for the Orange and Blue in his return

• Manneh, who made his final 2019 appearance on Sept. 18, 2019, missed the final three matches of the regular season after undergoing a successful surgical procedure on his right shoulder ... the winger played 11 minutes as a second-half substitute

Back four back for more• The starting defenders in FC Cincinnati’s season opener – Mathieu Deplagne, Ken-

dall Waston, Maikel van der Werff and Greg Garza – were the only starting position group who had previously started matches as a unit

• FC Cincinnati are now 1-1-1 all-time in matches when the foursome starts on the backline ... in their first two matches – at Montreal on Sept. 14, 2019 and against Chicago on Sept. 21, 2019 – the four players posted a pair of clean sheets

New look XI in 2020 season opener• Of the 11 players to take the pitch for FCC’s season opener at New York, only two

were in the Orange and Blue’s starting lineup in their first-ever season opener at Seattle in 2019: Mathieu Deplagne and Kendall Waston

• Of the 11 starters from FCC’s 2019 season opener, only four players remain with FC Cincinnati as the club enters 2020: Deplagne, Waston, Nick Hagglund and Przemyslaw Tyton

• Of the 30 players on FCC’s current active roster, only 16 were on FC Cincinnati’s opening-day active roster when the club played Seattle Sounders FC on March 2, 2019

FCC embark on second MLS season• FC Cincinnati opened their second MLS campaign when they played the New York

Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, March 1• FCC concluded their first season in Major League Soccer with a 6-22-6 record• The Orange and Blue posted identical 3-11-3 records both at Nippert Stadium and

on the road• The club got off to a hot start in their inaugural MLS campaign, as they recorded a

single-month season-high seven points by posting a 2-2-1 record in March• Similarly, the Orange and Blue finished the 2019 campaign strong by recording at

least a point in four of their final five contests, as they went 1-1-3 to conclude the year.

• In FC Cincinnati’s season opener, Damet became the first head coach in MLS history to be a head coach under the age of 30 in multiple seasons

Keeping it Eastern early• FC Cincinnati open their 2020 MLS regular-season schedule with seven consecutive

ence opponents• The Orange and Blue will make their first trip outside of the Eastern Time Zone more

Restructured roster for 2020• As the club begins its second MLS season, the makeup of the roster is significantly

different than it was during FC Cincinnati’s 2019 regular-season finale at D.C. United on Oct. 6, 2019

• A total of 14 players are no longer with the club, while 11 new players have been added this season

• Of the new players, FC Cincinnati have added one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards to create depth and balance across the entire roster

Revamped attack ready to roll• While FC Cincinnati have added depth to all facets of the roster, the most notable

impact can be found in the Orange and Blue’s bolstered attack• FCC have added players with experience in top European leagues in the form of

• FC Cincinnati went 3-4-4 in matches when the left back started

Kubo on the left wing• FCC added their first major attacking piece when they acquired forward Yuya Kubo

from Belgian side KAA Gent on Jan. 9, 2020• The versatile attacker can play as a left winger, attacking midfielder or striker

League and UEFA Europa League matches, having scored in qualifying rounds of both competitions

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING“We finished on a positive note, I think the second half was much more what we were expecting to show today. I think in the first half, you could see a lot of tension, a lot of mistakes on our end and we got punished. Much better showing in the second half, much more energy, much more understanding of what we wanted to do with the ball and we got rewarded by these two goals. I think it’s just frustrating to come to Red Bull Arena, to score two goals and still not get a point.”- FC Cincinnati interim head coach Yoann Damet following FC Cincinnati’s 3-2 defeat at New York

“We keep working. We learned from that first experience that we all had together over the weekend in New York. We keep working, we focus on this weekend. We focus on us, on the game plan, but also on our playing style and how we’re going to approach the game.””- FC Cincinnati interim head coach Yoann Damet on the approach of the team ahead of the match at Atlanta United FC

“I think it’ll be a good game. Obviously, they bring out the intensity with the fans they have on their back. We have to match that intensity. Knowing this team that we’re going to play against, I think we could get a result.”- FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez on FC Cincinnati playing against his former club, Atlanta United FC

“It’s very unfortunate. Obviously, nobody wants to get injured. Somebody that is so big in the league, of course people want to see the way he does every season in and out, but it’s an unfortunate injury. I wish him a speedy recovery.”- FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez on the injury of former teammate Josef Martinez

across 10 seasons• Shortly after his signing, de Jong told fccincinnati.com’s Charlie Hatch that he felt

comfortable fitting into FC Cincinnati’s possession-based style of play the club is implementing

• “The system they want to play is quite similar to the Dutch system, and yeah, Ajax is probably one of the team’s that perfected it,” de Jong said. “Over the years I played there, I’ve learned a lot about this similar philosophy and trying to build up from the back in the Dutch style of play. That was one of the reasons why FC Cincinnati was a good fit for me.”
