MSU in the AFCA Poll | MSU ranks 12thAfter all, it IS the LONE STAR Conference Midwestern State has been simply dominant over Lone Star Conference competition from outside of the Texas borders since the 2001 season. The Mustangs enjoyed a 30-game winning streak over league competition hailing from outside of the State of Texas beginning with a 61-37 win at Southeastern Okla-homa on Oct. 20, 2001 before falling 38-33 to Central Oklahoma on Oct. 25, 2008. The streak included 24 wins over Oklahoma schools and six more against Eastern New Mexico. Overall, MSU is 35-2 against non-Texas league op-position since 2001 and 32-1 during the Bill Maskill era (since 2002).

Slapping the Sooners The loss to Central Oklahoma was the only time Bill Maskill-coached MSU team tasted defeat to an Okla-homa team as the Mustangs have posted a 25-1 mark against the Sooners since Maskill Era began in 2002. The Mustangs average margin during that span is a stunning 20.7 points per game. Midwestern hasn’t dropped a home to the border state since falling 42-14 to Central Oklahoma on Sep. 25, 1999 at Memorial Stadium - a span of 19 games.

vs. Current LSC-N | MSU is 35-2 since 2002

About the coaches Bill Maskill is in his 11th season as a head coach and ninth campaign at Midwestern State. He has led the Mustangs to winning ledgers in each of his years at the helm of the program including the school’s fi rst Lone Star Conference championship in 2009. Under Maskill’s guidance, MSU has advanced to the NCAA Division II postseason in each of the 2004, 2006 and 2009 seasons while amassing a 63-27 record (.700). Dan Cocannouer is in his second year at the helm of the Southwestern Oklahoma State football program where he guided the Bulldogs to a 1-10 mark in his fi rst season of 2009. His overall collegiate record stands at 1-12. Cocannouer was a four-year letterwinner at SWOSU and played on two Oklahoma Intercollegiate

Conference title teams including the 1977 squad that fi nished with a school-best 11-1 record. He spent his previous 32 years as a prep coach logging time at John Marshall, Chandler, Alva, Paul’s Valley and Walters high schools.

In Eskridge, we trust Senior quarterback Zack Eskridge is the unques-tioned leader of the Midwestern State Mustangs as shown by his election as a team captain by his team-mates this fall. The senior from Rowlett is the process of rewrit-ing the record book and setting the new standard for quarterbacks with a program which has been anything but devoid of talent at the signal caller position. MSU has boasted Harlon Hill fi nalist Phillip Boggs and fi rst-team All-America Daniel Polk as well as all-conference standout Rahsaan Bell just in the last decade prior to Eskridge’s arrival on campus as a transfer from TCU three seasons ago. All Eskridge has done is lead the Mustangs to their fi rst Lone Star Conference championship last season while ecplising school single-season marks 236 completions for 3,295 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also led the nation with a 180.2 quarterback rating. With his season to go, Eskridge has the most career 200- and 300-yard passing games in school his-tory with 16 and fi ve, respectively and has thrown for at least 200 yards in 17 of his last 19 outings. The Harlon Hill candidate, who was a fi nalist for the award last season, came into the season as a fi rst-team All-America pick by Collegiate Draft Services.
