Registered Scan Data
In a non-orthogonal environment such as the
Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge, the registered scan
data quickly give a true 3D representation of the
real world environment.
Requested Deliverable
Proposed Deliverable
Deliverable: Unigraphics As-Built 3D Model
Client: Feedback
Existing Design Model Overlaid onto As-built Model
Client: Feedback
• Site Definition• Unit Record Sheets (URS)• Site visits (tape measure, photos,
sketches)
• Design Effort • Background (TURB)
file creation
• Issues • Drafting hours for
TURB file creation• Documentation accuracy
– No documentation– Incorrect documentation– Undocumented site
modifications• Site fit-up issues
– Piping, conduit, skids
• Site Definition• Only one site visit• Point cloud data, all measurements
collected
• Design Effort• Background UG model generated
• Benefits• Time Reduction
» Engineering and drafting cycle time (productivity)
• Accuracy – As-Installed configuration
• Cost Avoidance» Reduced outage time» Eliminate Site fit-up & re-work
issues

The Gray is the Laser Scan Parasolid
The Green is the GE Design Model
Working Closely with Designers is important.
• A small adjustment in position, brought the whole model into perfect alignment.
• The 0.36 inch difference was calculated to be heat expansion / deformation.
Diameter 122.64 inch (3D Parasolid Model)
Diameter 123.00 inch is design dim.
