Gallstones And The Problems They Cause

Gallstones are solid particles which form from bile in the gallbladder. The small saclike organ in the upper right section of the abdomen is what is known as the gallbladder. They do not look any different from pebbles or stones; they are known to grow big up to the size of a golf ball.

Three thousand deaths and 800,000 hospitalizations in the United States alone are accounted for by this illness while an approximate of 500,000 people has their gall bladders removed because of gallstones and gallstone cached diseases.

What Causes of Gallstones?

The main cause of gallstone is an imbalance in the chemical composition of the gallbladder. Many doctors believe that a high cholesterol diet contributes to the development this disease due to the fact that many gallstones are made up of cholesterol.

Gallbladder stones symptoms are more common in the groups of people who are obese, with cirrhosis, digestive disorders, those with gallstone family history, those who are over 40 years in age and women especially those that have been pregnant.

There are three different types of the ailment in question on the bases of the causes and effects on the victim.

Uncomplicated gallstone disease

This normally happens when they block the opening of the bile duct. Similar gallbladder diseases may also cause cached similar complications, the gall stones however cause recurring sessions of abdominal pain lasting one to five hours.

Asymptomatic gallstones

This doesn’t have any symptoms.

What are The Symptoms of gallstones?

The diseases symptoms include permanent recurring episodes of pain in the abdomen. This pain is the most typical gallstone symptom. Other symptoms include; heartburn, clay-colored changed bowel habits, trembling, fever, vomiting and nausea, chills and yellowing of the white are of the eyes and skin

However, in some instances such as asymptomatic gallstones, no symptoms are produced and you may not know you have them unless a doctor finds them in the diagnosis of other illnesses.

Gallstones treatment

Mostly, it is treated with a number of well adopted and verified medical procedures which include:-

Open surgery

Surgery is a common gallstones treatment. that involves the direct surgical removal of gall stones. The most preferred open surgery type is the laporoscopic cholecystectomy “key-hole surgery”. During this surgery, the surgeon makes four small incisions with each incision about 1cm or less in the patient’s abdomen wall.

The abdomen is then inflated with carbon dioxide gas through the incisions to give the doctor a better view of the abdomen during surgery. Once the procedure is complete, the incisions will be sealed. One big advantage of this treatment type is tat only small incisions are made on ones abdomens wall. A lot of post-operation pain will not be experienced as one heals and the method is almost 100 percent successful.

Lithotripsy

This treatment method involves the concentration of ultrasonic shockwaves onto the gallstones for the purpose of breaking them up into smaller pieces.

This treatment method is rarely used because the possibility of the recurrence of symptoms is as high as 59%. The treatment method is however very cheap and quick.

Gallstones may also be treated through ursodeoxycholic acid and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatolography.
