“A faith family nurturing all in Christ - trusting God - going into the world.”

Toes in the sand, a cold drink in hand,
looking out over the water, with loved
ones nearby…
(I’m sure others will be there as well)
That’s my plan for summer vacation. What about yours?
Maybe its hiking trails in a national park, going fishing, visiting some quaint
little town, sitting by the pool, or just being inside in the air conditioning
curled up with a good book. Whatever your plan, I hope you have one. Our
bodies and minds need rest and renewal after periods of work and exhaustion.
Sometimes the benefit of vacation isn’t that we slow down, but our minds and
bodies are focused on other things. The normal routine is put aside and some-
how that refreshes us. I’ve come home from many vacations so tired that I
needed to get back to work to recover! However, I’m always refreshed by
time away. Not because I don’t like what I do, but because being away pro-
vides some distance so that when I pick up the task again it is fresh.
Just remember as you go through the summer, your faith is just as vital then as
any other time. If you are away from home, check out a church in the area.
You’ll be encouraged by the Body of Christ worshipping in another place and
may even find an idea you can put to use here at Trinity when you return. If
you in the home area, be sure to connect with one of our services – even if it’s
not your normal one. Yes, the Lord is all around us and we can worship Him
anywhere – I’ve heard God’s name almost everywhere. The problem is we
usually don’t worship Him when we are out and about. And, even if we do,
we aren’t growing as His follower if we neglect interacting with His people in
the Body of Christ.
On a different note, summer is the perfect time to invite someone over to talk
about faith and life while you sit by fire ring or sip iced tea. Even just build-
ing that relationship with a neighbor or acquaintance will make future faith
conversations possible. If this stretches you too much at your own house, in-
vite someone to the church picnic on July 22nd. You might just build a bridge
of faith for someone to walk across.
God Bless You All!

God answered our prayers in that the event
was “rain free”. The crowd was wonderful,
very complementary of the location, the
roominess, and of course the food!
Special thanks to the following key individuals who worked tirelessly
to ensure the event was as ready as it could be...in the time before,
during, and after the festival.
They are: Pam Vincent-Kitchen Chair; Carol Higbea-
Dining Room Hostess; Carry-out Co-chairs: Becky Binkley
& Sue Wilkin; Jan Miller - Advertising Guru and Strawberry
Chair; Janice Freund - baker for all the shortcake; Anita &
Jim Dunlap - Clean Up Co-chairs; Carl Miller the (“behind
the scenes”) helper in all aspects of the event.
In addition, Jacquie Edwards provided festive table decorations to en-
hance the tables.

J.A.M. JAR Update (Jackson Area Ministries Seed Project)
On April 5 we were finally able to determine
a firm total of garden participants for this
year. The calculator kept adding and adding
to produce a final total—4,428. That is a
HUGE number. In 45 years of ministry, our
garden project has never gone over four
thousand growers. Imagine the potential of
how many families this will bless with fresh vegetables!
The Facts:
4,428 potential growers in 18 counties of southeast Ohio includ-
ing 14 community gardens.
JAM will distribute 1,387 pounds of corn and 1,387 pounds of
bean seeds
We (and our volunteers) will prepare 4,428 little packages of car-
rots, lettuce, etc.
We will distribute 26,568 tomato plants
If each garden should produce $200 worth of food
then this ministry’s total net worth will be $885,600.

A revival is coming to Allen
County, Ohio September 10-16,
2017! Delphos Trinity UMC and
at least 65 other churches in Allen
County are coming together to
reach our community for Jesus in
partnership with reviveOHIO.
This organization is the regional
arm of Time to Revive. Time to
Revive is based in Dallas, TX and
has been pursuing revival in numerous cities across the U.S. since 2007. It’s sole
purpose is to partner with the local Church by equipping the saints to share the Gos-
pel and make disciples. In August 2016, Time to Revive was in Darke County,
Ohio to unite many congregations and lead believers outside of their familiar
church walls to pray for others and share the Good News of Jesus in the commu-
nity. The Lord moved mightily and now revival is spreading. Following Darke
County, reviveOHIO invested in Auglaize County, Dayton, Miami County, and
Mercer County. Allen County is next.
Delphos Trinity UMC will host 200-300 church leaders for lunch on
Wednesday, September 13 at the Family Life Center. Various churches are taking
turns hosting lunch throughout the county. Every morning, breakfast will be served
at Lima Baptist Temple and we will return there each evening for dinner and a com-
munity worship service. During the day, Christians will be challenged to move out
into the community to pray with our neighbors and open up the spiritual conversa-
tion. Everyone is welcome to attend as much or as little of the week as your sched-
ule allows. Please pray that God moves through our community demonstrating His
power and grace.
Of particular need are families willing to host missionaries in their home
for the week. You would not need to provide any meals or transportation as they
will be working with the team every day– simply a bed and access to a shower.
Also, if you have wanted to be a mentor for someone else who desires to grow in
their faith – please let Pastor Rich know. We can teach you how to do this and pro-
vide all of the resources you need.
All students entering 6th -12th grade
who have not yet participated in Con-
firmation are invited to join the 2017-
2018 Class. This is a time of spiritual
discernment during which students
explore the teachings of the Christian
faith and what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Students who complete the
course are eligible to be baptized if they have not already and to become full mem-
bers of the United Methodist Church. Pastor Rich will teach this class. Most ses-
sions will be held on Sunday evenings, though there are a few other obligations.
Anyone interested please contact Pastor Rich at [email protected].

News & Updates In April of last year, Ridge
UMC merged with the Trin-
ity UMC family. As part of
the merger agreement, the
property was not to be sold
for one year unless it was to
another ministry organiza-
tion. The goal was to pre-
serve the missional intent of
the property to be used to
reach people for Jesus Christ.
Confronted with the reality that the Ridge church would need a new
roof over the sanctuary very soon, the Trinity UMC Administrative
Board originally approved a roof last
October. However, this was changed in November when the Charge
Conference (our annual church business meeting) approved a proposal
to authorize the Trustees to sell the property on behalf of the church.
This had to be done in accordance with the merger agreement - mean-
ing a ministry could buy it before April 2016 and any entity thereafter.
The Trustees received two offers that were presented to the Adminis-
trative Council. The Trustees recommended selling the property for
$7,000 to Living Branches (a newly formed non-profit organization
that has been holding Christian retreats for many years at Maria Stein).
Bernie Schnipke, one of the board members of Living Branches, hopes
to turn the Ridge property into a viable retreat center closer to the
Lima/Delphos area. The organization has paid Trinity for the property
and has already received a large gift to replace the sanctuary roof. If
the property is not viable after 10 years, it must be sold with any pro-
ceeds minus the original investment coming to Trinity UMC.
The $7,000 received from the sale of Ridge UMC has been put directly
towards the loan on the Family Life Center. Part of our denomina-
tional rules state that assets from property cannot be used for normal
operating expenses, but must be used for capital expenses (major re-
pairs, renovations, new buildings, etc.). In addition to this blessing,
the Ridge property is still being used for ministry purposes. Living
Branches has allowed the Trinity UMC Sew Helpful group to continue
to use the building while Living Branches fundraise and begin renova-
tions. Let’s pray that God blesses all of those willing to step out to do

News & Updates
Work is in progress to clean, declutter, and repaint all
the classrooms upstairs. (Special thanks
to Erin Stokes and Nicole Coil for starting
on all of the closets!) If you would like to
help a day or two, please contact Perry
Wiltsie or Doug Ditto. The goal is to
complete this before Labor Day.
The Family Life Center has had a new on-demand hot
water heater installed. This happened right before the
June Jubilee so that there would be an endless supply
of hot water on high demand days for dishes, cooking,
etc. The United Methodist Women made a generous
donation of $3,000 towards the cost and the balance
was paid from the Trustees account. Thank you to all
who had a hand in making this happen! It is one of
those behind the scene things that makes life so easier.
Are you interested in getting baptized?
Maybe you just recently became a follower
of Jesus or you have been a participant in
church for a long time without ever having
been baptized. If you would like to take this
step of faith, please contact Pastor Rich at
(419)236-4692 or email at [email protected]. We will have a
special opportunity on Saturday, July 22nd to be baptized by submer-
sion in a pond at the church picnic for those who are interested. We
will also accommodate those who would rather be baptized by sprin-
kling the following Sunday in one of our regular worship services.

AIA celebrates 50 years of changed lives! I am
one of the many lives that have been completely
changed by this ministry. As a freshman at the
University of Dayton, one of my teammates
reached out to me and led me to Christ. I am thankful to be part of
seeing God change lives all over the world.
Expect that God will use you in ways beyond what you’ve seen so
far.” -Dave Hannah, founder of AIA. Last month all of our AIA staff
gathered to celebrate 50 years of God changing lives through A
IA. It was incredible to hear this one man’s vision to take the gospel
to the world through sport. Now we have immeasurably more than I
could ask or imagine as I trust Him for AIA movements in every col-
lege athletic department (currently on 220 campuses of 1800 total).
Training the next generation: This year it was my
goal to focus on raising up more female leader-
ship in our ministry. I led a Local Team Leader
training the past 6 months. These ladies are mak-
ing history as the first female “AIA Local Team
Leaders”. Daily they reach out to share Christ
with athletes on over 45 campuses in Boston, UVA, Stanford, VT,
Atlanta, and Colorado Sate. University of Michigan is sending labor-
ers to reach the world. Sent out from Ann Arbor we are now reaching
athletes for Christ at U of Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Chicago, San
Diego State, Puerto Rico, East Asia and South Africa!
You play a vital role in this ministry. Thank you for your prayers and
support! The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face
shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face to-
ward you and give you peace. -Numbers 6:24-26

Happy Summer Everyone!! We are enjoying the beautiful summer and
keeping very busy! June was packed full of fun with camping week,
boating week, safari week and celebrating our DAD! We also began
dance class for the summer. For July we will celebrate Independence
Day, learn about Ocean Animals, Tropical Rainforests, and The Wild,
Wild West!
August may wrap up our summer , but does not end our fun! We
will have themes such as Around the World, Gardening, Zoo, Picnics,
and Superhero Week.
We would like to give a big "THANK YOU" to Becky Strayer for do-
nating the BEST Safari animals to Tender Times. We absolutely
LOVED them!!
Thank you to everyone that came out and supported us during The Re-
lay For Life and stopped to say "Hello". We had so much fun support-
ing a great cause and being out and about in the community.
Thank you to Katie and Abby Accero
who donated their time and taught the
children some dance over the summer.
The children enjoyed it so much!
We appreciate the support of everyone
and pray you have a glorious summer!

West Ohio is leading the United Methodist denomination in mission
giving. West Ohio paid 100% of its global church apportionments for
the 5th consecutive year, received an award for the 2016 Highest
Total amount given to United Methodist Committee on Relief
(UMCOR) and the 2016 Highest Total amount of Giving to the Ad-
vance (UM related missionaries and projects around the world).
The West Ohio Conference launched the Light the Way Campaign.
Light the Way is a focused plan to develop new faith communities and
increase the number of highly vital existing congregations. The offer-
ing received just over $1.1 million, in cash and written intentions to
give, from churches, districts and individuals.
The conference ordained 14 elders, received one elder into full mem-
bership recognizing his ordination from another denomination, or-
dained five deacons, and commissioned 5 provisional deacons and 22
provisional elders. Thirty-five clergy, representing 884 total years of
service, retired. Total combined membership of our 1,020 churches
stands at 162,842, down 3 percent from the previous year. Worship
attendance stands at 96,848, down 4 percent. Church school atten-
dance stands at 27,008, down 7 percent. All total, WOC churches
served 1,889,366 people with ministries of outreach, justice, and
mercy! Thanks be to God for being a part of His glorious work.
VBS S.O.S. Alert!! The theme for this year’s VBS is suggesting some
props that I am asking you to share, if you have any
of them. I am listing the items:
1. Normal sized BEAN BAG CHAIRS
2. LAVA LAMPS
3. ARTIFICIAL PLANTS/GREENRY

Every year, delegates from each United Methodist Church attend a gath-
ering to handle church business and to celebrate the ways in which God
uses us to impact our communities and the world with the good news of
Jesus Christ. Delphos Trinity UMC is part of the West Ohio Confer-
ence which includes the entire southern and western halves of the state.
On June 4-7, each of the 1,020 United Methodist Churches sent dele-
gates to Lakeside OH for this annual meeting.
Delphos Trinity was well represented by Pastor Rich Rakay, Luke
Burkhart (elected by Trinity), Doug Erman and Lillian Burkhart (both
lay delegates for the Northwest Plains District).
This year’s theme was “Be Not Afraid, Facing the Future!” Our presid-
ing bishop, Gregory Palmer led the conference. He has been elected to
serve as our leader for another four years.
Bishop Palmer is also a member of the Commission on a Way Forward,
the church body instructed to review our church bylaws and beliefs as
they relate to human sexuality. He challenged the conference, “My
friends we’ve got to shorten the list, in all our relationships, about what
are the deal breakers and decide what are the things that will hold us
together. This is the United Methodist way. We always begin with what
we hold in common with other Christians.” Bishop Palmer spoke can-
didly of gun violence and opiate addiction in the United States and spe-
cifically within the boundaries of the conference. Recognizing the over-
whelming statistics, Palmer encouraged the conference attendees to act
with urgency, to have conversations inside the church and with commu-
nity leaders, to educate themselves and those in their neighborhoods.
From the mission front, the conference celebrated the commissioning of
Missionary Elizabeth Heft. She will serve in Palestine as a school
teacher. Gaston and Jeanne Ntambo, missionaries from the Democratic
Republic of the Congo, shared life-saving stories of the Wings of the
Morning, an aviation mission supported in large part by the people of
West Ohio. Church and Community Worker, Mariellen Grace continues
to serve at the Charitable Pharmacy in Columbus, Ohio. In addition,

Pickle-ball® is played on a badminton-sized
court: 20’ x 44.’ The ball is served diagonally
(starting with the right-hand service-square), and
points can only be scored by the side that
serves. Players on each side must let the ball
bounce once before volleys are allowed, and there
is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net, to prevent “spiking.”
The server continues to serve, alternating service courts, until he or she faults.
The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two points wins.
Pickle-ball® can be played with singles or doubles.
