IOSH WORKING SAFELY IOSH/039/11-14 RC:07475102 Page 1 of 1 IOSH Working Safely IOSH are the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. Their IOSH working safely course is widely considered to be the industry-standard health and safety training course for workers in the UK. The IOSH working safely course covers a wide range of health and safety topics, that reflect the typical health, safety and welfare issues that workers face in their workplace. Working Safety is now recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) as equivalent to a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. This means that anyone who has successfully completes the course - and passes the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives, can apply for a CSCS Labourer Green Card (to help them gain easier access to UK construction sites). Who should attend? The IOSH working safely course is for staff that are exposed to common workplace hazards and who need a basic health and safety awareness course. It is suited to operatives within most organisations as it covers a broad range of common workplace hazards. Course Contents 1. Introducing work safely 2. Defining hazard and risk— Risk assessment; Controlling risk; Hazard spotting 3. Identifying common hazards—Access and egress, Asbestos, Bullying, Confined spaces, Display screen equipment (DSE), Electricity, Falls from height, Fire, Hazardous substances, Housekeeping, Human factors, Lighting, Manual handling, Noise, Slips and trips, Stress, Temperature, Vehicles and workplace transport, Vibration, Violence and abuse, Welfare, Work equipment. 4. Improving safety performance—Your responsibilities, Your organization's responsibilities 5. Protecting our environments Course Duration The course is delivered in one day. Course Format Delegates each receive a comprehensive training manual and the support of a highly qualified and experienced trainer throughout the course. Each course can have up to 20 delegates provided the facilities can accommodate them. How is it assessed? The course is assessed by: 1. A short written/objective multiple-choice paper. 2. A workplace based written assignment. Delegates, who attend and successfully complete both the practical and written assessments, will be awarded the IOSH Working Safety certificate, issued by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in the UK. Note: This course is also presented as an in-company package.
