AHEAD OF ASSEMBLY elec-tions in Maharashtra andHaryana, the government onMonday announced issuance of12thfaanche of electoral bondsthat could be used to makedonations to political parties.

Polls wUl be held in bothMaharashtra and Haryana onOctober 21, while countingwffltake place on October 24.

Electoral bonds are beingpitched as an alternative to cashdonations made topolitical par-ties as part of efforts to bringfa-ansparency in political fimd-ing/'State Bank of India (SBI),inthe XII phase of sale, has beenauthorised to issue and encashelectoral bonds through its 29authorisedbrancheswith effectfrom October 1 to October 10,"the finance ministry said in astatement.

The 29 specified SBIbranches are in cities such asNew Delhi, Gandhinagar,Chandigarh, Bengaluiu,Bhopal,Mumbai, faipur, Lucknow,Chennai,KbUataandGuwahati.This is the second issuance ofelectoral bonds afterthe condu-sion of general elections.
