Turning Your Event into a Fundraiser

There are many creative ways to maximize the impact of your Girl Rising screening. Captainsand organizations are planning everything from panel discussions and after-parties to follow-up0

book clubs and fundraisers. Turning your screening into a fundraiser is a great way to turnawareness directly into ACTION!

Here are three ideas on how to raise funds for girls’ education at your screening:

1.) Find a sponsor. Find a sponsor to buy out the theater and treat individual ticket sales ascontributions.

2.) Collect donations. Do a call to action after screening and collect donations after thefilm.

3.) Host a pre/post-event. Host an after-party at a venue near your theater to open uppost-film discussion and raise money.

1.) Find a Sponsor Find a local business to sponsor your screening by buying out the theater and then donate allthe proceeds from ticket sales to the 10x10 Fund for Girls’ Education or another girls-focusedorganization.

How?1. Set your Goal

Decide on how much you want to raise from your event – setting a goal helps to geteveryone engaged in the challenge. Then, decide where you would like the funding togo. 10x10’s goal is to raise $15MM dollars for girls education programs fromengagement with Girl Rising . This funding will be distributed through the 10x10 Fund for Girls’ Education to our non-profit impact partners. We’d love your help to get there! ManyCaptains have their own favorite girls-focused organizations and we encourage you touse Girl Rising to support an organization that you feel most passionately aboutsupporting.

2. Find a Sponsor Many local businesses are interested in getting involved in community events. Ask a0

local restaurant, bar or generous philanthropist to sponsor your screening. Explain how0

their support will help you fundraise to improve the lives of girls around the world. Offer them this opportunity to help raise awareness and drive action for girls. This is also agreat way to highlight their product or services, so offer to mention their sponsorship inyour invitations, during the event, or in any materials you decide to create.

The sponsor can use the “Buy Now” option on Gathr, which will secure every seat in thetheater on a specific date and time. The cost varies depending on the theater and whenthe screening will be held.

0

Tip: If you have difficulty finding an underwriter, consider approaching multiplebusinesses or supporters to co-sponsor the screening.

3. Invite an AudienceInvite your friends, family, and network to attend your screening at the regular ticket priceor at a higher price that you set. Be sure to ask your sponsor for their list of invitees, aswell. Then, donate the total sales of tickets to the organization you’ve decided tosupport.

You can use sites like Eventbrite to presell tickets or you can choose to collect donationsdirectly at the theater entrance. If you decide to sell tickets at the door, be clear aboutthe ticket price and payment methods in your invitation - i.e., “Tickets for Girl Rising are$12 each. Please bring cash or make checks payable to the 10x10 Fund for Girls’Education or whatever organization you have decided to support.

Tip: If your event is sponsored, stress in your invitations that 100% of ticket sales willgo directly to the organization you are supporting.

4. Follow-Up After the event, we encourage you to send a personalized note to your audiencethanking them for their contributions. We’ve created an email template that you can find00

in our Captain Starter Kit that you can easily customize and adapt as you see fit.

A thank you note not only shows your gratitude, but it can also provide additionalopportunities for anyone who is interested in taking further action for the organization or girls’ education.0

2.) Collect Donations at Your Screening After watching Girl Rising many of your audience members may feel compelled to take

immediate action to suppor t girls’ education. Use the time before or after your event as a call toaction for a worthy cause.

How?1. Choose your Call to Action

10x10’s goal is to raise $15MM dollars for girls education programs from engagementwith Girl Rising . This funding will be distributed through the 10x10 Fund for Girls’

Education to our non-profit impact partners. We’d love your help to get there! Many0

Captains have their own favorite girls-focused organizations and we encourage you touse Girl Rising to support an organization that you feel most passionately aboutsupporting.

2. Prepare Your Call to Action0

Write opening and closing remarks that the film’s message to the 10x10 Fund or to theorganization that you have chosen to support and ask your audience to ACT. Use our fact sheets, director’s notes, or the organization’s website to outline your call to action.

Tip: Providing suggested donation amounts that are realistic based on your audiencecan help encourage giving. Example: “A gift of $29 to Care will buy a girl her schooluniform” or “A $295 donation to Plan International will send a girl to school for a year.”Most organization’s donation pages will provide giving guidelines that you can use.

 3. Provide Method for Giving0

Decide what the best avenue for giving is for you and your audience. Will you collectdonations at the theater or direct your audience to an online giving platform?

o  A basket or container to securely collect donationso Extra pens for those writing checkso Opportunities to give at a later time: Preaddressed envelopes or a card with

giving informationo  An iPhone with a donation collection software like Square

If you’d prefer not to directly collect donations, you can set up a secure online givingpage with sites like Crowdrise or FirstGive. A fundraising page allows you to set aspecific goal, track your progress, and share with more people.
