AC/DC Not Breaking Up Amid Retirement RumorsAfter two days of massive speculation, Australian hard-rock pioneers AC/DC have shotdown rumors that they are retiring. FrontmanBrian Johnson has instead revealed that the bandis going ahead with plans to record a new album, though admitted that founding memberMalcolm Young is "taking a break from the banddue to ill health.""We are definitely getting together in May inVancouver," he told the Daily Telegraph. "We'regoing to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas. Ifanything happens, we'll record it."Rumors of the group's retirement began lateMonday night when Australian radio station6PR reported the breakup during their "RumourFile" section and tweeted that founding memberMalcolm Young and his family "have movedback to Oz because he is very sick." Australiannews anchor Peter Ford fueled rumors on hisTwitter, stating, "There is some quite sad detailabout it all, that I will not be reporting on, butthe band/management may choose to revealthis" and that the "boys played together privatelya few weeks back."The band itself confirmed that Young was thesick member in question in a Facebook postWednesday morning. "After 40 years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and foundingmember Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health," the band wrote. "Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide fortheir never-ending love and support. In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during thistime. The band will continue to make music.""I wouldn't like to say anything either way aboutthe future," Johnson told the Telegraph earlierthat day. "I'm not ruling anything out. One of theboys has a debilitating illness, but I don't wantto say too much about it. He is very proud andprivate, a wonderful chap. We've been pals for35 years and I look up to him very much."

"We're going to go back in May and start working on some new stuff, so I think we'llstart recording it this year," drummer DominicHoward told KROQ over the weekend. "If wecan get something out this year, that would begreat, but definitely next year."

The group's frontman, Matt Bellamy, toldRolling Stone in December that the group hadbegun working on the follow-up to its 2012album The 2nd Law shortly after it played theRome Olympic Stadium – a performance it laterput out as a CD-DVD. At the time, he said he thought the band might want to take a back-to-basics approach with it. "I have this strongfeeling that the next album should be somethingthat really does strip away the additional thingsthat we've experimented with on the last two albums, which is electronics, symphonics andorchestral work and all that kind of stuff," he said. "I kind of feel like it will be nice to reconnect and remind ourselves of just the basics of who we are."Neil Young's Pono Kickstarter Raises Over $6 MillionThe Kickstarter campaign to fund Neil Young'sPonoMusic player reached its goal of $800,000less than 10 hours after it went live. Now, thecampaign has ended after earning nearly eighttimes that figure. It is officially the third highest-funded campaign in Kickstarter history. The campaign closed out at over $6 million on April 15th with full backing on severalpledges tied to rewards, including signature series Ponos bearing pre-loaded music and autograph inscriptions by Metallica, Tom Petty,Pearl Jam and, of course, Young. Two of the rewards for the top-priced $5,000 pledge levels– dinner and a VIP listening parties with Youngin California and New York City – also sold out.In total, 18,220 people backed the campaign, pledging $6,225,354. Kickstarter's rules say thatproject organizers can keep money raised aboveand beyond the initial funding threshold. After years of planning, Young announced Ponoin March at South by Southwest. The Ponomusic player and service allows users to listen to music at a much higher quality than thetypical smartphone. To support his Kickstartercampaign, Young also recruited a number of hisfamous friends – including Beck, Norah Jones,Rick Rubin, Jack White, Arcade Fire, AnthonyKiedis, Flea, Dave Grohl, Elvis Costello,Beastie Boys’ Mike D, Elton John, JacksonBrowne, Dave Matthews, Patti Smith, Kid Rockand Mumford & Sons’ Marcus Mumford – toappear in a video and offer testimonies to theplayer's sound quality.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in March,Young said he was not surprised by people's reactions to Pono. "It's been pretty predictable, because I'm a musician and I know how musicians feel about sound," he said. "Therecord companies made some bad choices anddid not realize how big this tech [MP3s] wasgoing to be. And when that happened, there wasno alternative to the cheap sound. . . We're going to be able to play records back just likethe artists made them — with absolutely nomagic sauce, no DRM, no encoding, decoding, none of the things that screw with the sound and make it an intellectual property."The player has a suggested retail price of $399and contains 128 gigabytes of memory, which can store between 1,000 and 2,000 high-resolution songs. The device will also acceptmemory cards to hold more music and playlists.Miley Cyrus Postpones U.S. Tour Over Extreme Allergic ReactionMiley Cyrus has postponed the remaining U.S.dates for her Bangerz tour after falling ill from an allergic reaction to antibiotics. If you are able to see your musical idols in concert as a child and then, are talentedenough to join them onstage years later, you might have to pinch yourself to make sure you are not in a dream. That'sthe reality for singer/songwriter ZZ Ward.ZZ spent some time with Full Access Magazine to talk about her career, her current tour and also about those specialmoments where the fan in her comes out when she is in the company of selectmusicians."I've been touring so much. I love touring, like the part of the tour of being in a different city every night for two months.Sounds kinda fun, but it's exhausting. So, that's exactly how it is; fun and exhausting," ZZ said. "I love my craft andI love performing. I love meeting my fansand I think when you tour as much as I'vetoured as a new artist, you learn prettyquickly what you need to get by. I feel likeI'm an athlete. When I'm on the road, people come to see me perform every night and I think people expect me tosound good and to put on a good show. Ihave a pretty strong voice, so you learnhow to take care of yourself on the road. You get a system down, so i kinda havethat system down.""I have opened for Johnny Lang. Johnnyis cool and so nice. I actually watched him before I was an artist, when I was inOregon, I went to his concert. Then I ended

up opening for him. It's funny how thingswork like that. The same thing with AmosLee. I saw him about five years ago in concert and now I'm going on tour withhim," ZZ added. "I don't know if I get star struck anymore because I have met so many people that are famous. I thinkthat there's something fun about being star struck. I met Jakob Dylan and he said, ‘he loved one of my songs.’ I was like ‘What?! you know my song? You'reJakob Dylan.’ He knew who I was, it wasa cool moment."As a young girl growing up in Oregon, ZZ acquired an appreciation for the Blueswhile listening with her parents. Her lovefor music and for her father inspired her to join her father's band at the age of 12.ZZ explains her start in music, as well asher early influences."My dad was in the band and I thought hewas cool. He sang and played music, andjust made me feel like it was just a funthing to do. I felt special when I was playing music," ZZ said. "We listened to the Blues, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Big MamaThornton, and a lot of back-porch Bluesstuff. Later on, I opened for Buddy Guyand I'm going on with Eric Clapton; prettyawesome."A few years later, ZZ Ward moved to Los Angeles, where she was signed to her first record deal in 2009 with Boardwalk.

In 2012, she signed with HollywoodRecords and released her debut album, Tilthe Casket Drops. Some of her music hasbeen featured on such tv shows as ABC'sPretty Little Liars and MTV's Awkward.Lately, she has been making appearanceson talk shows including The Queen Latifah Show, The Tonight Show and Good Morning America, among others."It's been so fun. I think my favorite wasConan O'Brien, because he had me comeover to the couch, which was really cool.I wasn't ready for it; that was pretty fun,"ZZ said. "I just did Queen Latifah and then Craig Ferguson and they were so nice. It's so fun to be on those late night shows."ZZ has been touring all over the globe forthe past few years. She is currently on herLast Love Tour with guests Grizfolk and the O'my's. When she first began touring, she felt pressure to try to connect with fans that had not heard her music before andfans who were at the show to see the headlining band. Gradually, her fan basewould grow and she would take notice offans singing along while she performed on stage. ZZ enlightened us on her growingfan base and on some early lessons learnedwhile on the road. "I love touring. But you mess up and youlearn from it. I screwed up when I firsttoured Europe. I did seven countries inseven days. I felt like I killed myself. I didn't know what was going on. I wouldsay to the bus driver, ‘Are we gonna stopsomewhere on the way and eat?’ He said‘No, we are leaving in ten minutes. If youwant something, you better get it now.’ We were in Paris and I didn't speak Frenchand didn't know what to do. You just learnas you go," ZZ said."It's a great feeling. A really great feelingto see the fans. It's the hardest when youfirst get started, because most of the timewhen you first start, you are opening for a band. A lot of people don't know who you are, so you are making fans," ZZadded. They are hearing you and thinking‘I love this artist,’ but they don't know thewords to the songs. They're not there to seeyou, so that's when the conditions are

really tough. When you don't have fans,it's a little more challenging. Now that Ihave fans, it's so fun. They sing all thelyrics louder than me; it's a blast!"Having traveled all over the world, ZZpicks some US cities as her favorite placesto play. Most of the shows are lively, although sometimes ZZ admits she has toput in a little extra effort to get the showkicking into high-gear."At this point now, I'm looking for a bigcrowd; a pumped crowd. If they're not, then I have to get them there. It's our jobas a band to get them to have a great time," ZZ said. "I like Denver a lot, but the altitude is so high, so you have to adjust. There's other places that are incredible, Minneapolis, Chicago, I can'treally say that any one city hasn't beengood to me. I have pretty loyal fans and it's always a party."ZZ Ward plans on bringing that party atmosphere and her high-energy show tothe Big Guava Festival at the Florida StateFairgrounds in Tampa on May 4th. Be sure to check it out! You can keep up with ZZ Ward on Facebook, Twitter and on her website www.zzward.com.

“Michael Jackson: The Immortal WorldTour” by Cirque du Soleil combines MichaelJackson’s music and choreography withCirque du Soleil’s signature performancestyle. The show unfolds Michael Jackson’sartistry and captures the essence and soul ofthe world-renown king of pop. The show iswritten and directed by Jamie King, who isthe leading concert director in pop musictoday. The show features 49 internationaldancers, musicians and acrobats. I talkedwith Ravi Best, an accomplished trumpetplayer, who is a part of the extensive production. Ravi Best is from Brooklyn, New York anda graduate of Howard University with aBachelors of Arts in Music Therapy, alongwith a Masters of Music from New YorkUniversity. He described how his careerstarted at a young age. “I started playing thetrumpet at the age of 12. I have been doingthat my entire life. I was very fortunate togrow up in a home where my father was always playing the heck out of the stereo, soI grew up with great influences of jazz andclassical and R&B. That really influencedmy desire to play music.” The Immortal World Tour features more than35 of Michael’s songs. Best has always hadthe ambition and dreams to be a performer, but he never expected to be playing on thislevel. “I think from an early age, I always had the dream of performing, and touring the world and playing music, but obviouslyhaving an opportunity like this to play withbasically Michael Jackson’s last band; that’s

something so far beyond, you would neverconceive that kind of idea. I never thought,‘Wow I would perform with this level of musicians, this caliber, and to be connectedto this huge legacy that’s such a part of our culture’.” Ravi has toured or recorded with some of the industries top artists including: QueenLatifah, David Byrne, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Jay-Z, Whitney Houston, and many more. When asked if the path was paved for him during his career, he responded, “As an artist you’re always developing, always trying to get better, always trying to achieve the next goal. I’malways thankful for every opportunity thatI’ve had. And I do feel those opportunities do send you to the next step, because younever know what connections your going tomake and what performance or situation, you always learn and grow. You’re alwaysstriving for the next thing, the higher thing. We can always grow, we can always get better, and there’s always such great musicout there to play. So I’m always working towards that.”The show has been on tour for two and a half years. The creation process for the show, as a whole, was a year and a half in the making. The first year was spent with all the creators in the room; the members, the cast crew, and the artists, figuring outwhat they wanted the show to be. Then there was another four months with the original cast of the show before it was premiered. To showcase Michael’s voice

and support the cast, Musical Director Greg Phillinganes handpicked a group of musicians. The show contains a full band, including horns and an electric cello. Best described how he was given the opportunity to be apart of the show, and credits it to the power of networking. “I wassought out. In all businesses, networking connections are very vital and so one of mybest friends was a previous trumpet playerwho was on this tour. They were looking forsomeone, and he put together all the music, and was in charge of hiring all the musicians. He reached out to one of my best friends who is Taylor Swift’s musical director and he said, ‘I need someone for this gig’ andasked if he knew people he would like. My friend said, ‘you need to call my friendRavi, he would be perfect for this.’ It wasthrough that connection that they were ableto get in contact with me and we started going from there.”Best has performed on Broadway in showslike Annie, Anything Goes, La Cage AuxFolles, Chicago, The Color Purple, amongothers. He describes being apart of theMichael Jackson The Immortal World Tour as the most challenging tour, because he needed to learn choreography as well as combine his musical talents. “There’s challenges in different ways obviously; music in itself can be very challenging. Or let’s say, you go to a show like this where I had to learn how to dance ‘Thriller,’that for me was a first. I’m used to learningmusic per say, but having them together, music and choreography, that is an extra challenge. But I love that, having done various Broadway shows where I have had todo a little bit of that too. That little extra, added thing of learning how to do actualchoreography is a little bit of an extra challenge, but it’s great fun. I get paid to play great music and dance ‘Thriller.’ What’sbetter than that?”Best described his expectations for the show;“I was very excited, basically because I just

grew up with his music and listened to it mywhole life. As a trumpet player, hearing all ofthose great horn lines and things, I was reallyexcited to play all of that. Also, seeing someof the Cirque du Soleil shows and learning‘Thriller,’ I think I was really excited aboutthe whole idea of being part of this huge showthat’s like a huge Michael Jackson concert. It’s really the best chance you have to actuallywitness what it would be like to actually play with Michael. Unfortunately, I didn’thave that opportunity to be a part of that, but this is the next best thing. I was really excited about it so I think my expectation was ‘I’m getting ready to play some of the greatest music ever, music that has impacted so many peoples lives,’ I think I was really excited about that.”While touring, the performers and musiciansperform multiple shows per week. Best described that in “each city they have a sound check, which is similar to a rehearsal. At that point, we will tidy some things and see what needs to be looked at, so that we keep everything in tune.” The show ends with a song Michael often chose to end his concerts, “Man in the Mirror.” Best describes the importance of this song and how it’s dedicated toMichael’s legacy. “Michael Jackson’s musicand the message of his legacy, I feel is sopowerful. His music was about love and compassion and uniting all people all over the world. No matter what your backgroundis or what you gain from his music, it was always about love and bringing people together. I hope people coming to see theshow walk away remembering that message.I think it’s really appropriate that ‘Man in the Mirror’ is the final song in our show and its talking about changing the world. Ithink being a musician, the power of music is such an amazing thing. I think coming tothe show, people will be able to hear thatspirit that Michael was trying to give to thepeople, through his music.”

When thinking of iconic comedy-teams,many names come to mind: Laurel andHardy; Wilder and Pryor; Matthau andLemon to name a few. Some have had successful runs either on-stage, in film or on television. None have had both the success and the influential impact achievedby Cheech and Chong. Tommy Chong recently talked with us at Full Access Magazine, where he reflected on his career, his partnership with Cheech Marin and...well,marijuana.Famously known as a "stoner" in all of hisfilm and tv roles, Chong is very passionatewhen discussing both the legalization of and the medicinal uses for marijuana. In2012, after being drug-free for three years,Chong announced that he had been battlingprostrate cancer. Currently, Chong says he is cancer free and believes that marijuana has played a huge role in his recovery. Hetalks of his recovery and of the possibility of legalization one day."It was legal at one time; it was always considered a medicine by the Chinese. Thereason it was made illegal was for profit.Even right now, they are having a hard timecoming to grips with the fact that marijuanais good for pain-control because it heals thewound," Chong said. "Healing is always the best kind of pain-control in any kind of injury. The pharmaceutical companies andthe alcohol companies and the agricultural

industry all see the writing on the wall, that marijuana can take a lot of them out permanently. The cancer industry alone isvery nervous because they're finding reallygood results with cannabis oil in fighting cancer.""Chemo and radiation; that's a multi-billiondollar business that will go down the drain if everybody gets a hold of that knowledge;and they are. Cancer doctors are realizing that their glory days of chemotherapy and radiation are coming to a close," Chong added. "I am cancer free. Yes...it's a combination of cannabis oil, diet and exercise. I had to eliminate sugar, alcohol and meat from my diet totally."While growing up in the Canadian city ofVancouver in the 1960's, Tommy Chong was trying to make a living as a musician. While he was in-between bands, he decidedto start a comedy show at his family's niteclub. One of his comedic partners wasCheech Marin. "When I was in my late thirties, my familyhad a night club in Vancouver. I got fired from Motown and I was trying to put a band together. I ended up meeting Cheechand I put an improvisational troupe together.I was directing at first, and then I got onstage...my first laugh was kinda like gettinginto a new car. I thought, "whoah, this is fun!"I had another partner and we did all the heavy lifting; all the main jokes. Cheech

was kinda like the understudy," Chong recalled. "When the group broke up, Cheechwas the only one left that wanted to pursuecomedy. So we put a band together and ourfirst gig, we did all comedy and no music. So that's when I saw the writing on the wall.""I thought, all we had to do now was get discovered. So we stayed together and struggled for a year and then we made it. We stayed on anybody's couch we could; we really struggled. There were no comedystores back then, so we went on between folksingers and we got a following. Then we gotsigned and did some comedy records and the rest is history."Cheech and Chong achieved early-career success with the releases of their first fivecomedy albums in the early 1970's and multiple Grammy Award nominations. Thisled to the release of the 1978 cult-classic film, Up In Smoke."That was a landmark film that changed Hollywood and to be a part of that was quitean honor. When you try movies and you get a hit, then you're blessed. That was our firstmovie out of the gate and it was a huge, huge hit," Chong said. "It was quite thrilling. Most of the writers and producers of sitcomsnow tell me they grew up with our movies. So it's been a big influence on some of today's shows."The duo went on to star in five films over the next five years, four of which were directed by Chong. The duo experiencedsome "creative difficulties" and split soonafter the release of their album, Get out of myRoom, in 1985.Over the next several years, the pair went on to achieve success individually. Cheechwould co-star in films like Tin Cup and on thetv show Nash Bridges. Chong found mostlyguest-starring roles on tv until he got a call tojoin the cast of That 70's Show in 1998. A rolethat would last over four years and give theshow a huge boost in ratings. Chong recallshis role on that show, along with two newshows he is currently working on."That 70's Show was having a problem withtheir ratings, so they called me in to do a little guest shot. They kinda knew what

they were doing. It was a perfect role for me. I didn't have to do the lead, I was thecomic relief...the stoner. It worked out really well," Chong explained. "It helped the show a lot and gave the show more credibility. Before I got there, nobody was areal pothead...when I got there it legitimizedtheir attempts. I just shot a bit-part on The Millers and a bit-part on Raising Hope. I'm being a goodwill ambassador for pot."Cheech and Chong would stay apart for thebetter part of twenty years before teaming up again. This time for a comedy tour in2008. The duo is currently working on a new movie with a release aimed at 2015."It's been pretty good...we've been apartlonger than we were together, so it's like starting over again. It's good, you know, there's no down-side to it at all. Especiallynow, we got weed legal and we are going to go about getting immigration legal. That's going to be our next push. I think our movie will have something to do with the immigration problem," Chong said. "Right now, we're doing less and less showsbecause we are working on the movie. There's no name for it yet, probably Cheechand Chong Up in Smoke thirty years later.Cheech stipulated that he didn't want to work under my direction anymore."Be sure to check out Cheech and Chong's upcoming movie next year and follow them on their website, on Facebook and on Twitter.

The Winery Dogs consists of Richie Kotzen(Vocals and Guitar), Billy Sheehan (Vocalsand Bass), and Mike Portnoy (Drums andVocals). These three names have come together to combine their musical talentsand create a fantastic rock ‘n’ roll sound.Last year, they released a self-titled debutalbum that has had a great fan response. They also have had a world tour and havestarted touring again. I had a chance to talkwith Portnoy about their debut album, hisdrumming style, and touring. The idea for creating The Winery Dogsstarted in 2011 by Sheehan and Portnoywhen they were creating music with anotherguitarist and songwriter, but it did not work out. After that, a mutual friend, Eddie Trunk, suggested the two contactKotzen to see if he was interested in joining the band. Portnoy says, the three ofthem clicked instantly. “The three of us have a lot in common musically and personally. When we got together last year,Richie and I worked together, and Richieand Billy worked together, so there weresome individual relationships already builtin. As far as making music, it happened relatively quickly. The three of us immediatelyfelt the chemistry, so we decided to forgeahead and create a real band.”The members of the band all have extensivemusical history. Kotzen was apart of Poison, and Mr. Big. Sheehan was a member of Mr. Big, Steve Vai and David Lee Roth. And

Portnoy was a co-founder of the metal bandDream Theater. The band’s album and performances feature a lot of diversity with a combination of their unique talents.Portnoy says the combination of their talentssets them apart. “We have three guys withthree extensive individual histories thatmake together one. It’s kind of like1+1+1=1. We didn’t want to make a bandwhere any of the three of us came togetherto carry the load, we share the weight andthe input. I think what sets us apart is whatsome people call “supergroup,” but I thinkin this case the sum is greater then all itsparts. I think what we make together is special and unique.”The band has had a great fan reaction sincetheir formation. In 2013, the band toured inSouth America, Japan, Europe, and the USand was very well received. The bands self-titled album sold over 10,000 copies.Portnoy attributes their fan success to theirtalents. “Well, its good music, its good songswith good musicians, and most times thosedon’t always go hand in hand. Sometimesyou have a band with great musicians thatcan’t write good songs. Sometimes, youhave someone who can write great songs, but can’t really play their instruments. WithThe Winery Dogs, you kind of get the bestof both worlds.”Portnoy says, he adapts to each band he isapart of and changes his drumming style to suit the needs of the band. “I play very

differently for every band I am apart of.Dream Theater called for very progressiveover-the-top drumming, Avenged Sevenfoldcalled for more aggressive metal drumming,Flying Colors calls for more restrained, andThe Winery Dogs calls for old school classicstyle drumming like in the name of JohnBonham or Ian Paice. I’m very comfortablewith all of those different styles.” On whohas inspired his drumming style, Protnoycredits John Bonham, Keith Moon, and Neal Peart.Their self titled album, which was releasedlast year, features 12 songs. Portnoy commented on the creation of the album. “Iwould say about 75 percent of the songs on the album were written collectively, withall three of us shaping it and contributing to it. Then, the other 25 percent of the timewas someone bringing in an idea, or (even)an existing song. Then we would work onthat. But for most of them, the bulk of the work was collectively in the room, on the spot.”Portnoy says the inspiration for the albumand songs “comes from each other.” Headded, “We just play and inspire each other. All three of us have a lot of respect for eachother’s musical past and I think we just enjoy playing with the best in the business.” Portnoy shared that the song, “You SavedMe,” off their debut album, was the song that meant the most to him. “I wrote thoselyrics to thank my wife for standing by myside these past couple of years after I leftDream Theater. There was a lot of turmoilboth privately and publicly and she wascompletely supportive these past years. Iwanted to write a song that thanked her.”With a busy schedule, Portnoy says he isthankful that he is able to balance his careerand his personal life. “My family is veryused to me touring, because its been over 20years now. So they are very understanding

of touring and my schedule, and they arevery supportive of it and thank God. I knowa lot of musicians that have a struggle withthat balance. Luckily for me, I have a familythat gets it and supports me.”A Deluxe edition of the album was just released in April 2014. The Deluxe editionis a two-CD special edition that includes a disc of ten live tracks from Japan. In addition, there will be a deluxe special boxset called Dog Treats, which includes thetwo-CD special as well as a bonus CD of allthe demos from before the album was made. It also includes a DVD of all themusic videos and exclusive footage, and astudio diary by Portnoy. For this year, Portnoy says they will be focusing on touring.“We are going to be on tour for most of this year. Right now, we are scheduled for April through the endof the summer, so that’s our focus. That’swhat were going to be doing pretty much this year, and once that is done, we will takea little break and then work on the nextrecord to be released early 2015.”When asked what else he would like to doon his own or with the band, he joked, “Juggling blueberries on the top of a schoolbus at ninety miles an hour.” He added, “Atthis point, I feel incredibly blessed and fulfilled. I’ve won every drum award that Ican ever dream of winning. I played onevery stage in every part of the world that Ihave ever wanted to play. I’ve toured withalmost every band that I would want to tourwith. At this point, my goals and my dreamsare strictly that of musical inspiration. I have already achieved every material thingI had wanted to achieve. At this point, it’sall about the musical fulfillment, workingwith musicians and artists that I respect, andmaking music that moves me and inspiresme. That’s what point I’m at in my life.”

A force to be reckoned with in countrymusic is Soul Circus Cowboys. SCC, madeup of five awesome musicians including the founder and lead singer Billy McKnight, drummer Jason Alfano, singer and bassistMichael Bach, guitarist and third part harmony Terry Cole and guitarist StephenHaendiges. When McKnight had come back from Nashville, he began a search forTampa's best musicians and found these five gentlemen. "I was looking for twoskilled guitarists and minimum 3-part harmony and I needed to find a drummer. I wanted that edge. I wanted that slam dunk. Each player is what I went out looking for, and over the years it has worked out pretty good," says McKnight. "In 2009, SCC formed and we had our first start. We started writing songs and our first single was "Lay It Down." Werecorded that in Nashville and had a videothat got on Great American Country andCountry Music Television. It got a good portion of the country aware of us. It got the radio aware of us, and we started to grow fans outside of Florida. That is how it started and here we are now, almost 5 years later," McKnight says. Five years later, these five guys have released theirnewest album, That's the Way We Roll. Their music is such an incredible blend of country and southern rock. "We have aballsy, southern rock/country band, and that is SCC," says McKnight.

SCC's music is something you can put on and know you are going to have a goodtime. It goes with every part of your life and you can hear it in the music thatthese guys are just having a blast duringevery minute of it. “We are seasoned. We have been around. We are taking influences from rock, southern rock andcountry. We have done the cover scene and the favorite rock and roll, heavier music, and country. The five guys I got are influenced heavy," says McKnight. You can hear these influencescome out in their songs and the blend of the styles is clear. Another thing about SCC that is very clear, is their Tampa loyalty. McKnight's Tampa roots are what motivated him to find musicians in theTampa area and to be able to start a band making music including Tampa's uniquestyle. "It is in the way we do things, in our ownlittle towns. What you eat, the lifestyle in Tampa; it is different and we are all connected that way," says McKnight. Fans understand that. They have their own little towns and they know how they work. It allows SCC to connect with their fans through their hometown love to others with that same love for their hometowns. They make sure to includethose feelings and those moments in theirmusic. They are writing for their own little town. "That is what keeps it real,

the lyrics are honest," says McKnight. "Youcan always talk about your roots, like when Kid Rock talks about Detroit. We will always have something about where we arefrom, in some way. We are proud to say weare from Tampa. Our goal is to be nationaland play cities and be on as many radio stations, but we are proud to say we are from Tampa Bay and we will always stick to that."Knowing that these five guys have only been playing together for the past five years seems crazy when you listen to howwell they all sound together. "It is unforcedand natural to perform together. It is a unity.I was just telling Bach his harmony is getting on me over the years, so if I do atriplet on a word instead of staying, he makes that move with me. It's a tightness, like a glove, that just fits. It is a signature fit. My singers are on me like white on rice and it is badass to have that. We work a lotand we still go into the rehearsal room andalways bring something new to the peoplewho come out constantly to see us. SCC is still following after that goal of being a national band, playing anywhere and connecting with their fans. Excited about their newest record, getting it out to

the public and into the hands of old fans and new fans. They are working a lot and justmoving forward seeing where this all will take them. All the while keeping their fans in mind. SCC is all about their fans, and they have felt very fortunate to not only have fans within Florida, but to have spanned across the country. "We can't do it without them," says McKnight. To hearmore from Soul Circus Cowboys like their Facebook page. Go to their websitewww.soulcircuscowboys.com and listen to their music. Of course, next time they are in a town near you, check them out live. You will be in for an experience. "It is the amount of people who keep respondingto us, that keeps us growing. We respect and appreciate everyone for doing that," says McKnight. Soul Circus Cowboys keep on working andkeep on moving, and making a bigger name for themselves in the country musicrealm. Their unique blend of sounds that create this awesome southern rock vibe is taking them where they want to go. All the while, they keep true to their Tampa roots, to their fans and to themselves. Those are the most important things to hold on to in the music business.

Todd TerjeIt’s Album TimeOlsen Records3334fby Terry Canter

Though he's been DJing, producing andremixing for a decade now, Todd Terje is aman so anonymous, even he doesn’t care how you pronounce his surname. “Istopped correcting people many years ago,"he recently told an interviewer, with ashrug. But the Norwegian producer's debutalbum is packed with personality, its retro-futuristic, cosmic-disco grooves forming a clear picture of Terje as life andsoul of the party. The whole thing is wrapped in a cloak ofdaftness, from the cover art's illustration of a louche Terje, like an offcut from aStella Artois advert, to the ridiculous title. In case you didn't get the message, the title track repeats the words, "It's albumtime, it's album time" ad nauseam, like atheme tune.Indeed, it feels as though the primary inspiration on Terje's work is that of the TV theme through the ages. The baroquekeys, swirling disco strings and pensivesynths of 'Leisure Suit Preben' are built for a Miami detective show, 'Delorean Dynamite' has the tense mood of the musicfrom the big-money round on an ’80s daytime TV game show, and 'Swing StarPart I' evokes the synth-driven soundtracksof thriller maestro John Carpenter. Ironically, the one that sounds least like a TV theme istitled 'Inspector Norse'.The pace switches halfway through with a cover of Robert Palmer’s 'Johnny AndMary' that would have slipped easily on to the Drive soundtrack, with whisperedguest vocals from Roxy Music legendBryan Ferry. Odd, but by this point, not unexpectedly so.

Despite its apparent desperation to be considered a piece of fluff and nonsense,Terje's infectious electronic pop beds itselfdeep in the brain. Terje is one of the peopleFranz Ferdinand called on to assist with lastyear's surprisingly fresh 'Right Thoughts,Right Words, Right Action', and it's hard to imagine the band pilfering Snoop Dogg's 'Who Am I (What’s My Name?)' for 'Evil Eye' quite so brazenly withoutTerje egging them on. Applying that spirit to his own music, he's turned in anelectronic album that’s full of characterwithout resorting to robot costumes or Pharrell bloody Williams. So it's worthlearning the following: it's pronounced ter-yeah, and it's his time now.

The Birds of SatanThe Birds of SatanShanabelle Recordsgggffby Terry Canter

A baby gurgles over a clattering drum roll before nine minutes of dramatic metalriffage and hulking prog licks, and so beginsthe first album from The Birds of Satan, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins’side project. This ambitious Queens Of The Stone Age flavoured opener, ‘The Ballad Of The Birds Of Satan’, is a struttingslice of Californian metal that’s strangelymisrepresentative of the rest of the record. The six tracks that follow are much easierto digest, sharing Foos’ commercial guitarleanings while gleefully paying homage toHawkins’ heroes Dio, Van Halen andQueen. Dave Grohl and Pat Smear bothmake cameos on the record, but high profileguests aren’t the album’s high point. That accolade goes to the gentle soft rocktriumph of ‘Raspberries’, the shred-happy‘Pieces of the Puzzle’ and the piledriving,’70s-era Aerosmith ballad ‘Too Far Gone To See’.

EMAThe Future’s VoidCity Slanggggffby Terry Canter

Erika M. Anderson’s second album is notably more austere than her 2011 debut,‘Past Life Martyred Saints’. “I rememberwhen the world was divided by a wall ofconcrete and a cube full of iron”, she hootsover the clank and clutter of ‘Satellites’,‘The Future’s Void’’s industrial opener. Addressing Russian surveillance over its neighbouring former Soviet states – brutally relevant in light of the Crimean crisis – ‘Satellites’ instantly distances itscreator from the grungy upstart of ‘PastLife…’ This time, EMA shuts the door on personal recollections of youth and romance and only one song here – ‘SoBlonde’ – revisits her familiar trashy lo-fi sound.Instead, the former Gowns vocalist dealswith universal themes of privacy invasionand technology’s ever-growing influenceon human interaction. ‘Neuromancer’ attacks the share-all culture of social networking (“I know more than you doabout the things that you do”), backed by afurious and metallic Nine Inch Nails rattle.‘Solace’, meanwhile, has a bass-heavytechno undercurrent, with Andersonsinging “We make constellations out offallen stars” as though straining to seethrough the dense electronics. This shift to a starker, machine-led sound is in opposition to EMA’s easy way with a pophook – a contrast that’s most effective on‘Smoulder’, where her melodies scribbleover the synthetic gridlines. These samemelodies are given more freedom to roamon the sparse, string-tinged arrangement of‘100 Years’, and they positively bloomamidst the swell of ‘3Jane’. The latter is a slow-burning torch ballad about the accelerated internet exposure she received

for her last album and ‘The Future’s Void’smost introspective song, containing thelament, “I feel like I blew my soul outacross the interweb … it left a hole so biginside of me.”These pockets of soul bearing act as tangible moments of emotion amongst the austerity, but also serve to highlight the weightiness of their surrounding environment. EMA has blogged that tomake this record she’d “avoided almost all contact with the outside world.” Howparadoxical that she’s returned with hermost outward-looking work to date.

SohnTremors4ADgggffby Terry Canter

Vienna-based producer SOHN keeps ashadowy profile. Since he emerged in 2012with breakout single ‘The Wheel’, personaldetails about the rising 4AD signing havebeen kept to a minimum. Even he seemsunsure of his identity on debut album‘Tremors’. “Somebody better let me knowmy name,” he sings on brooding ballad‘Artifice’ like a man lost inside his ownmysterious aura. All 11 icy nocturnes here come soaked indread, from the gently classical ‘Tempest’to arresting piano anthem ‘Paralysed’.Away from the complex production, trackslike ‘Bloodflows’ show off SOHN’s gift fora disarmingly simple lyric. “My love, mylove, my love don’t love me,” he croonsover a beat James Blake would covet. The lumbering ‘Ransom Notes’ struggles to kidnap your attention, and ‘Lights’ amblesalong with its synth noises that go nowhere. In a recent NME interview, SOHN said hissecret talent was being able to solveRubik’s Cubes. Like those puzzles,‘Tremors’ is frustrating. But when thecolours align it’s alluring and impressive.
