DESCRIPTION

Take a look at our new season brochure packed with brilliant new work.

TRANSCRIPT

January–June 2013fueltheatre.comJANUARY–JUNE 2013 fueltheatre.com

Hello

We have a delicious mix of theatre, installation, dance, film, comedy and podcasts for you to savour this season.

We bring you three brand new shows from artists whose ideas we love:

Will Adamsdale’s comedy with songs about a couple who find a Victorian man in the wall of their flat at the Royal Court and on tour;

Fevered Sleep’s film installation with performance about home with sounds of birdsong and a string quartet at the Young Vic and on tour;

Clod Ensemble’s mix of dance and visual theatre with a live blues score at Sadler’s Wells and on tour.

Then there’s a new series of podcasts called While You Wait which you can listen to online and at our listening stations around the country. Artists include Paul Clark, Malika Booker and Stefan Kaegi.

And in March, Fuelfest at Bristol Old Vic draws together a range of our events all in one place following hot on the heels of Fuelfest in Glasgow and Liverpool.

We hope you find something to tickle your taste buds.

Louise Blackwell and Kate McGrath Co-Directors

Fuel produces fresh work for adventurous people by inspiring artists.

We work in partnership with some of the UK’s most exciting contemporary theatre artists to develop, create and present new work for all. All the artists we work with create shows, performances or experiences that have direct and playful relationships with their audiences. They appeal to emotions and intellect: things that make you laugh and cry, and take place in theatres, on the streets, online or in unique, purpose-built structures.

Uninvited Guests stage an event that is somewhere between a wedding reception, a wake and a radio dedication show. We speak of our own and other’s loves – deep, passionate, ambivalent and unrequited – and dedicate songs to them.

If you want to join us on this happy occasion, send a dedication to someone you love, to [email protected].

“Ellams’ poetry gleams with dusty, worn, deeply original beauty and he remains such wonderfully generous company to keep on stage.” Metro

An exuberant and touching autobiographical tale that charts the hilarious exploits of a natural born mischief, growing from the clay streets of Nigeria to the roof tops of Dublin and finally to London. In deft and beautiful poetry Fringe First winner Inua Ellams challenges expectations of what it is to be a young, black male in London today.

“An ingenious comedy... deliciously leftfield fare” Time Out on The Summer House

Latte-land…

Power-prams, Grand Design knock-throughs, organic everything. A family are rushed to hospital with festival fatigue.

A work-shy writer discovers a Victorian man living in the wall of his flat. Everyone’s pretty surprised. Adjustments need to be made.

Can the strange visitor unlock his hopeless career? His flagging relationship? A story buried in these walls for over a century? (Doubt it. Maybe. Yes.)

Contains jokes, songs, banging on recycling boxes. A Nigerian.

A new play from Perrier Award winner Will Adamsdale (Jackson’s Way, The Summer House) and co-produced by the Royal Court in London.

Bring us the troubles of the world, this city’s crises and the hope in your hearts.

In these times of crisis we make a collective ministry with you, our society of friends. Possessed by the spirits of corporate fat cats, cabinet ministers and media tycoons, we invoke the demons of the day, in order to banish them forever.

Each show will draw on the day’s news and will be about whatever matters to you. We’ll speak the unspeakable and do the unthinkable for you.

A turbulent mix of dance, music and visual theatre.

Zero is set to an original blues score played live by a band of acclaimed musicians and featuring an explosive cast of performers.

Zero is a world where nothing is certain – where women can be tigers and men can be snakes. Families, marriages and friendships are laced with sibling rivalries, frustrated desires and murderous ambitions.

Heavens open and lives fall apart. Here, we are all at the mercy of the stormy weather. At least we can still sing the blues.
